How to inlay solid stone into a channel ring

If you ever wanted to try to inlay stone with out crushing it hopefully this video helps! This is a custom jade and Granite ring. One with half jade and half granite while the other is jade completely around the band with a small 1mm granite inlay. Thank you for watching!

Nice! We use a rock saw to slab our material. Then use large cab machine for general shape, then we hole saw like you did. Then we use a flex shaft with diamond bits to sand/polish by hand. Finishing the shape and Working all the way up to these fancy nova bits, I’m sure you’ve heard of.

Nice! I have been tempted for too long to grab a large cabbing machine. So much faster and more control than this flat lap. Maybe this summer I will spoil myself!

@@DreamwoodRings the cab machine will also take nova wheels. So you can polish through your normal grits and then switch and go all the way up to 12,000 if you wish.

@@DreamwoodRings an old HighlandPark Cab machine. Like i said, we only use it for general shape, then move to a flex shaft for all our grits/nova wheels for polishing. If you have a new CabKing or a DiamondPacific you can switch out the wheels for novas and go all the way on one machine. But they are expensiveeeee.

The most difficult park of this process is cutting the outer circle ,and it's missing from the video ,? The inner hole is simple ,what wasn't the full process in the post ?

You are right! 🤦‍♂️ We ultimately chose a diamond bit a little bigger than the inner hole, lined it up best we could and cut the outside. Inside diameter to outside diameter was around 4mm difference.

@DreamwoodRings Ahh man! I ended up getting it done by UpstateResinWorks! He did an amazing job! I went with Turquoise on one outside inlay, 7mm loose diamonds in the middle, and Gold Nuggets on the outside inlay!
