This is exactly the video that I need right now as my 79' mini is done with welding and paint. This weekend I am doing this exact thing.

So glad it was helpful. Good luck with your windscreen job!

I’ve also used the cord method to install the windscreen on a mini - it’s a damn sight easier than installing the glass into the seal as you have done and literally takes two minutes. You just need a thick enough rounded cord to ensure you don’t rip the seal. It also appears to have less chance of cracking the windscreen during the install.

Have you tried using chord in the track and then "unzipping" it to install the glass? Very easy.

Yes however the old manuals actually say not to use string in this way on the minis, as it can damage the seal. I have done it that way in the past and it worked though!

That’s a brilliant idea for the windows. Mk1s are a killer in the summer! Let me know how it goes!

Thanks dude! I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Definitely the hardest job you can ever do on a car. Tried everything to get mine in and have been at it for 9 hours with no luck at all. Got the whole screen sitting in the lip of the rubber but there's no way it'll ever push into place. Decided to list the car as a parts car because of this

Great video! Took a lot of the fear out of the task. I need to do the windscreen on our 90 Mini at some point. Seems like a reasonable job.

Hi Cole! Fantastic idea with the little tabs holding the bottom window rail in place, I think I will try to do the same thing on my mk1. Is the part where you put in the rear quarterlights in a video of yours? My car seems to be missing something where the shutting mechanism at the back of the windows is meant to mount to the shell..

Where did you get the interior? I'm looking to do something very similar with my Cobra seats.
@classicminidiy Жыл бұрын
The seats were retrimmed locally. They originally were the black cobra seats. The door cards and headliner are all from Newton commercial

Mk1 Mini's in Australia have roll up windows and quarter lights

Oh man I know. I heavily considered sourcing some for the rebuild but decided my money would be better spent elsewhere. I love those aus doors.

Allways put the rubber seal on the window first and than use a wire / cord to pull the windscreen into the frame

Filet Strip ?? -- Its a filler strip -- You must have been hungry when you filmed this
@ianparsons8019 Жыл бұрын
I think it comes from the french filet. Such as an angle connecting two perpendicular surfaces. In machining it is called a FILET. Makes sense, as I had never heard it used outside of cad/cam design and machine design.
