Dude you have an awesome channel, bits of every kind of DIY. You have helped me a couple of time using some of your videos. Thank you!!

Use a long carboard template with holes made from the canopy. (open box that it came in, use the bottom edge as the level on the line of the bricks). Mine just blew off, Storm Eunice, (Feb 2022). Going to remove and rebuild and add aluminium or plastic strips depending on what I can get and screw into the black supports.

Not sure about this brand but the ones I got came with cheap screws and masonry inserts. Instead of using these, I got some Dynabolt masonry fixings and used those. The awnings have been sturdy for 8 years now and we have had some HEAVY storms.

Thank you for the video ,I'm about to proceed with the same job . Although my canopy is slightly more difficult due to the composite alu- sheeting . The sheeting has a rubberstyle sealing strip and requires some washing up detergent to facilitate the fitting of the support arms. That procedure is ok but fitting the additional canopy in the air is not easy. I might consider your silicone or polyurethane style sealer in the centre . The drilling of the wholes as you go seems more accurate . I was going to drill all the holes prior to fitting the canopies. Thank you for the explanation on your fitments of the canopies . Keep well and kind regards 😊

Eventhough the video is kind of long, the explanation was very well done. I am planning on installing these but noticed that there's no coverings on the sides, if the rain comes with wind, which usually does, the rain gets in through the sides, I may have to install a double one over my door. If very strong winds are expected these awnings can't be lowered and secured. So I'm still looking for some that can be lowered and secured.

Have this installed for around 5 years now. This year we had some pretty strong wind that brought down some trees and took up some roofs. Awning survived.

It would look better if the brackets were mounted with reference to the horizontal mortar line rather than to the spirit level. Use rubber mallet or block of wood with metal hammer. Peel back plastic covering from edge before fitting to arms.
@hawkesworth17122 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't have put it together on a brick path and there's no way I would have used a steel hammer on it. This awning would have been covered in scratches. When you unpack something like this use the cardboard packaging as a base to work on and use a dead-blow hammer or rubber mallet. The polycarbonate may be shatterproof but it can split very easily. Also use a screwdriver - you're not driving 100mm screws into hardwood.

I'm going install mine on one long board first. Then bolt that to the house with at least 4 inch screws.
@stampsy13 жыл бұрын
Good informative video but i think it would've been better standing the perspex sheets and brackets on the cardboard (old packaging) while you assembled it, just to avoid any scratches from the ground. Also, it would've been a good idea to close the windows first before drilling. Still good tho'.

Can I install one over my mobile home door? It's vinyl sliding but not very sturdy.
@gavincrispin14362 жыл бұрын
found it easier to assemble one end at a time,with a rivet on round ends thru plastic into aluminium where they slide in then put other end on same deal with rivets to hold it all together,put one dynabolt in at one end and had partner push up other end with a broom and level on top ,made marks for other end,dynabolts and done.

my awning is just like this. it comes with 4 small screws...they call them "Sharp" screws. Can't figure out what to do with them! On the black plastic there's holes for them, but the aluminum supports have zero holes in those areas. should I drill holes in the aluminum to match up and use those screws to give it a secondary support (on top of the acrylic caulking)?

May have to custom order it from the manufacturer. I am guessing it won’t be a problem or just cut it to size if your handy.

@hmax15913 жыл бұрын
No he can't....you need to do your homework as what is best for your house's construction. He has brick, if you have siding you need to find studs so you can attach to them.

what size drill must we use please?
@ecologicaltime5 жыл бұрын
the size of the drill bit must match the size of the wall plug. Different awnings use different size nylon plugs. Just check your drill bit is same thickness (or there about) as the wall plug.

There is a right way and a wrong way to install the awning. The drill bit can move so why provide it as an option. Reading reviews on this product I've seen a lot of the awning pops out of bracket comments. Added caulking and tape. Must be a beauty of a finish. Start with centre bracket and then mark the two exterior bracket holes. Measure in from the window edges to get the centre point. Pilot drill then drill to anchor size. Bricks can break and because its a hammer jack drill the hole can be slightly larger and you don't want that. Do it right and take the extra step. You mention applying tape to the top to seal water access. How does tape stick to brick? The caulking job was horrendous. Should use caulking spatula so the finish is presentable. And bead should be a min of 1/4" and ensure it's designed to fasten to the material you're applying it to. The plumbing of the outside brackets shouldn't be required if the awning is level since the brackets insert 10cm into the awning cover so should be plumb based on that alone (unless there's play in the seam which I doubt since it appeared to be a snug fit. To avoid scratching the outside brackets when inserting the awning panels make sure it's not on an abrasive surface. Piece of cardboard or foam board would work. Tap in using a rubber mallet vs hammer or if using a hammer use a small piece of wood so the hammer head impact doesn't damage the bracket. Pull the protective covering away from where the brackets are installed an inch or so so it's not pinned in when installed making it's removal more difficult than it should be. Remove the top protective covering after you've sealed the opening between the wall and the awning. Caulking can drop off and no clean up if it lands on the protective sheet as it comes off cleanly when the films removed. Otherwise, looking at smudges of silicon that is not easily removed. Level should sit on bracket like he did after it fell of the top of the awning. That fall alone can cause the level to no longer be true so should have noted he checked to ensure it was still true after the fall. Having installed many of these in the past he should have had it sitting on the lower support bracket from the beginning. Easier to see and no risk or falling. And ensure you have a clutch on your drill if your using the drill to drive in the screws so you don't strip the opening. Set it to 3-4 and adjust from there. Don't want the hole stripped. Short burst on lower speed so you don't strip the head of the screw.

thanks. the way shown does not result in popping out of awning.

I didn't get any tape and the directions doesn't show any tape with it. Do i need to buy some and what kind do I buy?
@ecologicaltime5 жыл бұрын
If the sides are open and you think water could get into the awning and seep along the inner part, then it may be good to tape it. If the sides are sealed already then dont worry about the tape. The tape is to stop water from getting in the little channels that run from left to right.

Can this be installed on a mobilehome?
@ecologicaltime4 жыл бұрын
it needs to be attached to a strong point - preferably thick wood or cement so i wouldn't put on mobile home unless you attach to the frame of the mobile home and the frame is strong.
@hmax15913 жыл бұрын
They make awnings specially designed for motor homes. Usually canvas so they can retract, were you really planning on attaching a permanent awning on a mobile home? Really?

not happy with this product, the Back U-channel does not fit and I had to tap it gently to get it half way on, half way is not going to work....it does not come pre-fitted as in your video, the channels come loose , front one went on perfectly...back one is now damaged, what now????
@ecologicaltime5 жыл бұрын
if you tap it gently along the line of the channel and then keep tapping moving along the line going forwards then backwards then forwards while tapping, that should seat it for you.
