How can you do it if you have a metal roof above it in like a patio
@user-nn3zq3bm8q3 жыл бұрын
You have to screw to the joists. If there are none then you have to install some.

what is the bare minimum I could get away with for clearance to take tiles in and out of the grid in a basement install, I'd be willing to shunt a few edge tiles in from the middle if I had to?
@jeremypremeau68562 жыл бұрын
It depends on the thickness of the tile. Measure the height of the grid and add the thickness of the tile to that plus maybe a quarter inch to allow enough clearance above the grid to move the tile up and over.

Question for you, if you are installing a drop ceiling with a 'sunken in' (sunken up towards the existing ceiling) panel how do you end against the wall if you gave to cut the panel?
@user-nn3zq3bm8q6 жыл бұрын
If the panel is mineral fiber, then you need to kerf the edge of the panel by scribing it first.If the panel is plastic it would depend on whether the panel sits below the grid or not. If it doesn't sit below the grid there is no way to avoid the gaps you will see due to the profile of the panel. Typically in that situation you would install a flat panel for the border tiles. Most companies who sell the raised profile panels also sell the matching flat border panels. I have revealed plastic panel with a large profile but it is very time consuming. -Tim

Can you put a drop ceiling in a garage?
@user-nn3zq3bm8q4 жыл бұрын
Yes, We have done many of them. Be sure to clip the tiles on the backside. You may want to use a vinyl faced gypsum tile for weight and moisture resistance. -Tim

Why do you install on 4ft. centers when using 2ft x 2ft tiles? You use 12 ft. then cross with 4ft. then cross with 2ft. !! Why not use 12ft. mains on 2ft. centers,then 2ft. t`s every 2ft. ? It`s easier ,stronger, less parts ,same cost!!!
@user-nn3zq3bm8q5 жыл бұрын
It's more time consuming to do it with Mains 2' on center. Twice as many support wires to install and they get in the way when installing tile.
@soumilinon5 жыл бұрын
@@user-nn3zq3bm8q So putting a 1 12ft. is more time consuming than 6 2ft. T`s, how is that possible??
@user-nn3zq3bm8q5 жыл бұрын
Because you have to install fasteners every 4' on center down the lineal length of the main. If your room is only 12x12 it isn't a big deal but when doing rooms that are 1000 -5000 sq ft or more. This would be very time consuming and uneccessary because installing a 4' tee is much faster than installing fasteners, wires and leveling a main. Not to mention some grid layouts require the grid to be cross-hatched for a particular lighting layout. Lastly, if the grid is installed 4" or less to the wood joists installing the tiles is more difficult with all those wires up there. The less the better. Good Luck- Tim
