When I hold down the program and up down button, it just stays red and never resets. Any suggestions?

A couple questions Do I have to enter an ID number? Is that the learn button you pushed for a couple seconds?

Yes you would need to enter an ID. Are you using it on a Genie Opener? And yes, the purple button was the lear button.
