Tuned in to see wiring, which was glossed over. BTW when drilling out of a house, use a small pilot bit and go outside and use the spade bit from the outside in, so as not to blow out the hole as shown.

Installed it myself without any issues. The wifi signal is great even kzbin.infoUgkxE_D_sddGAdiVUKp7PkkmyxO7bRtgqmk5 when the router is located far away. I really enjoy the night vision feature that allows me to see clearly any activity near our house (mostly cars and wild animals). The motion detection is helpful to me as well to monitor what happens on our front.

What I'm curious about, is drilling a hole through the box impede its UL listing and is that permissible as per the NEC?
@Ariel1S
@Ariel1S 3 жыл бұрын
No, it's not. At the very minimum you need a cable clamp where the wire enters the box. Also that waterproofing with some putty on wood is not enough. And you need to seal the external box.
@adammorgan9304
@adammorgan9304 2 жыл бұрын
@@Ariel1S that duct seal is sufficient for sealing around the back of the box. Especially once he screwed it to the siding. But you definitely aren’t supposed to drill through the back of those boxes. He’ll be alright though.

Love how This old house ALWAYS makes these jobs look easy, but choosing homes that have basements or easy access to do this. Many homes have metal outlet boxes that are nailed to the framing. Your not drilling that like you just showed. NOt sure I'd want a switch that low on the ground or if I'd want to loose the outlet either.
@tii2015
@tii2015 6 жыл бұрын
If the outlet was a homerun/continuous power, why would you need a switch? It would eventually time out and turn off, right?

@@tii2015 Perhaps you would want the light off to enjoy the stars that evening, or perhaps you have a campfire, etc. and want the ambience of the light from the fire. The only problem would be forgetting to turn the light switch back on for the following night.

Jesus is ALIVE It was useless. I also wouldn't recommend using an outlet to wire an outdoor light, for one it just doesn't make sense and two it looks dumb having a switch on an outlet and three since when do switches go on the ground. Also yes your right this video didn't really show any wiring, no black- hot wire, white wire neutral, green wire ground, anyway the video was pointless, I'm sorry that people had to waste there time on this crap, most of what he showed is written on the box, technically even the wiring is, but seeing how to do something does help sometimes.

Well for starters he drills from the inside of an internal box directly outside. Inside that box there is no method to hold that wire in the box. you can't modify wall boxes as that "was not intended by the manufacturer". No matter the locality codes will work with how the manufacturer for the box or fixture has designed because they work off of the National electrical Code (NEC) and they feed each other for how to do things.

Right. That doesn't work in a place where you have to keep power on to do maintenance or replace a bad device. Seems to me that using wire nuts are a much better option than crimping. We're working on houses here, not cars.

Wow that's a disaster waiting to happen. Come on old house.... you know better than to replace a wall outlet with a switch box. Wire it directly to the main power panel like a pro.

This is really not useful at all. How many people have a plastic electrical box, which just happens to be right where you need the security light to be outside.

Nice big ugly hole on the outside! Yeah, it may get covered up but still not very professional.
