Great video How do you tighten belt tension on this model so the belt will not come off
@JohnsonsSmallEngines5 ай бұрын
There is only belt tension when you engage the blade engagement handle and that is controlled with the spring at the end of the cable. When you disengage the handle it will make the belt loose. Not sure when your belt is coming off but it sounds like you have more issues then just replacing the belt?

I respect that you seem to actually answer people! Hoping you reply.... my mower smokes a little when idle, more when PTO is engaged. Losing power when going up small hills and it smokes more as well. Hoping its just a Carbeurator problem. I'll just swap it out. But how do I know if it's the carb or a bad head gasket? Oil level is fine and it doesn't really smell like gas in there.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines3 жыл бұрын
What model tractor do you have and is it a single cylinder Briggs or a twin cylinder? Does it have one spark plug or two? Did you check my video on how to tell if you have a blown head gasket?kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKKkZ35snbCkn80
@Feefifofum243 жыл бұрын
Guess it would help if I included that in the first place. It's a Bolens lawn tractor. Made by MTD I believe. Briggs and stratton 31a607 0741 motor. 1 Spark plug so I assume single cylinder. I did check the video but I'm still uncertain if it could be the carbeurator. It was only smoking a little lasy year and only here and there. I had it serviced because I replaced stator Coil last year, it would crank but not start after I did that, so I replaced the flywheel key because it was sheered and then the ignition switch because it was pretty worn. They cleaned the carb but now when pto engaged you get the smoke and power loss which it didn't do last year. It does run and idle ptty okay for the most part. Very little smoke when idling.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines3 жыл бұрын
what color is the smoke? If it is blue ish to white. Your burning oil, if it is blackish, your burning fuel and it may sound like it’s choking or just a lot of black ish smoke when going up hills.take your spark plug out and check to see how black It is. Black sootie looking is to much fuel (carburetor issue) oil and black carbon stuck around the tip or porcelain would be oil (blown head gasket) I would need to hear and see it to diagnose correctly. It could also just be tired (old) and burning a little bit of oil. I would need to drive it to figure out the low power issue.
@Feefifofum243 жыл бұрын
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines this helps alot! It is a white smoke bluish here and there which led me to believe the carb. When the smoke gets heavy with the pto engaged is the same time it's losing some power. it's all white, im thinking just a new carb may solve my issue but wanted a second opinion. I'll check the plug though just in case! Thank you so much, I subscribed!
@JohnsonsSmallEngines3 жыл бұрын
White smoke is oil being burned. Put a little oil from your engine dip stick on a rag or your finger and smell it. If the oil smells like gas and is very thin and the oil level seems to have gone up On the dipstick then you definitely have a carburetor issue. Again white blueish smoke is oil burning not the carburetor. Also check to make sure your sir filter isn’t saturated in oil. If it is, change it and see how it runs. Thank you for supporting the channel by subscribing:)

Nice Job: Can you show people how to add tension to the belt spring adjustment? Thanks
@JohnsonsSmallEngines3 жыл бұрын
There are no spring adjustments for the mower deck, If you have the correct belt from John Deere and there is nothing wrong with the mower deck, the belt is installed correctly, the mower deck is installed correctly and the blade engagement cable is installed correctly, then it should work as it should.

Do you ever need to adjust the tension on the belt. Mine sometimes seems to take a few seconds to engage.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Жыл бұрын
The mower deck belt is only tensioned by the blade engagement cable spring. Depending how you have serviced your mower deck, you may have a stretched belt? Due to, how many hours or years is on the use of the belt?, cutting with dull blades, mechanical issues with the mower deck, all which could make the belt stretch. Those all will give you a slow blade engagement feel, if the belt is stretched.
@williampowell8475 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Appreciate the feedback. I only have 75 hours on my mower. Keep it clean, blades sharpened, and have never had deck off. Could the belt be stretched with those few hours on it?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Жыл бұрын
Anything is possible. If it engaged much better before then obviously there is a issue with something. Check to make sure you do not have any grass obstructing the blades when you engage the deck. Try engaging the deck at mid height on the adjustment and on your driveway with no grass in the way. If it engages better then your ok. If not the only thing that I can say is try another belt and see what happens.

Excellent video! You got a thumbs up and a new subscriber. How long should a belt last? My new Deere E120 only had 15 hours on the hour meter when the first belt broke while I was engaging the deck drive. Thanks!
@JohnsonsSmallEngines3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for subscribing and giving it the thumbs up to help my channel. Normally belts can last a very long time and 15 hrs. is not much time at all. Most likely the belt make have broke for a reason. You now need to find out why? A couple of quick things to check for is (1) do you cut when the grass it wet?? If you do then you may have had a lot of packed grass under the mower deck then it may have dried to the point when you engaged your blades the blades were stuck and the belt broke before the blades were able to get going. (2) try and make sure the mower deck isn't too low (cutting height) when you engage the mower deck and is your in the grass, the grass could stop the blades from turning and again could brake the belt.(3) Are you washing the machine after you cut? if you are stop!!, Water and bearings on these tractors do not go well together and you may find a seized bearing/pulley if your not careful and again could brake the belt before the bearing/pulley starts to work again. I do not recommend washing the machine or using the wash out port because that will be the downfall of the tractor and shorten it's life.

I am your new subscriber!!! I just bought my first JD, just like yours. I will have it delivered this Saturday. I was so exited, but then I red some negative reviews about this particular mower. Any advise? Is it really a bad mower?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines3 жыл бұрын
The E130 in my opinion is a good tractor for grass cutting. If you are going to use it to haul a trailer/cart around with heavy loads you will most likely have transmission issues in the future. If you have steep hills you also may have transmission issues in the future. Make sure you do not wash the machine much at all. Do not use the wash port on the deck either. You will have to replace deck bearings and idler pulleys much sooner than normal because the bearings are not made well any longer (this is why the price of the machines are reasonable. Remember to grease the front wheels, front axle at the three points, one on each side and one under the front axle. Depending on how many hrs. you use the tractor you should grease machine at least twice a season. Purchase a grease gun. Keep sharp blades, change your oil and all filters on a year to year basis and you should be ok for many years to come. Preventative maintenance is the key to a long life. Good Luck with the new machine and thank you for subscribing. Please share with friends to help my channel grow!
