Always love these kinds of videos. Explaining why things need to be the way they are and straight into the installation. Compared to other videos where a simple subject like this will be turned into a 45 minute video with only 2 minutes being about the actual subject.

Correct info on the crush washer install process, but missed the very important thing, the use of a Reaction Bar. Upper Receiver Vise Blocks are only good for small and non-torque related install work on the upper. For any torque related work involving the barrel, I highly recommend using a Reaction Bar. This would help you avoid damaging the vise block, or worst, cracking your upper receiver. Use a Reaction Bar any time you apply torque to the barrel. This includes tightening the Barrel Nut, and timing and clocking muzzle devices.

@davidsongheng5967
@davidsongheng5967 Жыл бұрын
@@BertReno Reaction Bars are only good for AR type semi-auto rifles, which have splined extensions on the barrels. These reaction bars have splines that fits right in the AR type barrel extensions. My comments was for the AR rifle build that this shown. Unless you hunt with an AR type rifle, then my comments would apply. You can get them from Brownells, MidwayUSA, etc. or any online retailers. For bolt action type hunting rifles, browning or MidwayUSA also have plenty of choices for barrel blocks that you can use. You do not need to apply a lot of torque on these muzzle brakes. Just snug tight is usually what's needed. The crush washer will not allow you to over torque. If you need to clock your muzzle brake straight and plumb, then you have to add some muzzle thread shims correct the timing. Hope this helps.

You dont need to get a brand new crush washer every time you take your A2 birdcage off. As long as it gets a reasonable amount of tourqe going back on its just fine as it is not under huge stress in normal operation. Might be differend on other devices and if you use a suppressor that mounts to the A2 id recomment replacing the washer every time. But just the A2 alone is never coming off because you didnt replace the washer.

my barrel tip has a spring/pin and indentation on the break for correct alignment. it did come with a crush washer though,, vg6 epsilon ak. My m70 has the spring on the barrel though, do I need to use the crush washer or just screw it until it's tight and factory aligned. I guess the crush washer is to be used for barrels that don't have the spring pin to keep it in place.? Thank you

Everything is ok except vise. You're clamping upper receiver but not the barrel itself. You can damage barrel bed on upper receiver. You need action rod or what people use to call them.

How will you know it’s damaged?
@nenadg3665

@@Spencer900 Can't really say but you're applying torque to part 1 and have clamped part 2. The connection between those parts has to take torque force and you only want it on muzzle. Maybe barrel notch on upper receiver can be widen?

Don’t you need a torque wrench to ensure you don’t over tighten it? I’m pretty sure that wrench you were using isn’t a torque wrench.
@NeckboneArmory
@NeckboneArmory 3 жыл бұрын
That wrench was just a simple armorers wrench. As long as you tighten past hand tight more than a quarter turn, it will be torqued correctly with a crush washer. You can't really over tighten with a crush washer unless you completely flatten the crush washer. You shouldn't need to tighten it to that point. Even on muzzle devices that need to be timed, you will never need to do more than one full rotation to get it timed properly. Keep an eye on the crush washer, if you're flattening it, you're going too tight. If you want to use a torque wrench for peace of mind, that works too.

My barrel is tapered at the end will tightening the crush washer damage the barrel? Stainless steel barrel BTW.
@NeckboneArmory
@NeckboneArmory 3 жыл бұрын
It should be fine. only really need 20 - 30 ft lbs on the crush washer. The only problem I've seen with tapered barrels and crush washers is that the crush washer needs a shelf to crush against and some tapered barrels lose that. I've seen people flip the crush washer around because of it.
