Don't use alcohol to clean muzzle threads, it's not a strong enough solvent. Use brake parts cleaner or carb cleaner and clean inside the valleys of the threads by scrubbing with a toothbrush or preferably a brush with phosphor bronze or brass bristles. Make sure the threads are fully dry before applying Rocksett.

3 prong hiders should still be timed. If you have a passage pointing down, you will get a lot of dustup shooting prone. I say point it upward, with a prong in 6 o'clock.

Here are a few points to improve your technique: To clean threads, denatured alcohol, acetone or brake cleaner is better than rubbing alcohol. It looked like you were using 5/8 in shims instead of 1/2 in shims as they were oversized. When using rokset, let the compound set up 24 hours before shooting or apply about 170 degrees of heat to speed up set up times. There is no need to torque the threads to 30 ft lbs when using rokset. Something like 15 ft lbs is plenty as it puts less tension on your barre threads which minimizes the barrels rifling diameter from getting smaller/tighter as torque is increased. Brownells and a couple other channels have a good video regarding this phenomenon. Use a level on the upper pic rail and on the barrel device flat spot to check perfect alignment. I would estimate something like 45 to 60 degrees will be enough rotation for approx 15 ft lbs. If using only grease or anti seize on the threads, 25 to 30 ft lbs is safer but it can effect accuracy if too much torque is applied, especially over 40 or 50 ft lbs. And it seems that barrels usung 1/2x28 threads are more sensitive to excess torque than are 5/8x24 threads. With an AR barrel, it's much better to use a steel reaction rod like the midwest, which engages the barrel, so you dont put torque on the barrel pin and upper receiver groove. The block you used puts too much force on the upper receiver and can cause damage and misalignment. The school of American rifle channel has a good video showing this.

Does timing of the brake need to be perfect or just relatively close? It seems from the video that you were more concerned with proper torque than exact alignment.
@SilencerShop11 ай бұрын
It should be close, but you do not have to pull out a laser level to ensure perfect alignment.

If you're always shooting suppressed, does it really matter if a brake is timed?
@SilencerShop11 ай бұрын
For suppressor performance, no not really. But its still nice to have the brake properly timed on the of chance you do have to shoot without the silencer.

ports horizontal with respect to the handguard? to the receiver? I mean how many degrees of tolerance is acceptable?
@SilencerShopАй бұрын
horizontal to the ground when the rife is vertical. It doesn't have to be perfect.

For a muzzle brake that comes with a self timing nut like ghost lite, how would you do this?
@SilencerShopАй бұрын
You set the muzzle brake to be flat then tighten the timing nut to the barrel, its quick and easy!

Which direction should crush-washer face?
@SilencerShop3 ай бұрын
Narrow end towards the barrel, wide end towards the muzzle brake. Reminder, do not use crush washers for silencers.

Would not recommend a smooshed torque wrench, but any of the models at your local hardware store will suffice. These do not have to be exact.

WTF is “Timed?” It’s called clocked. Anytime you’re screwing something on that needs to be aligned or oriented in a specific way it’s called “clocking.”
