Nice video but I do wish that you had shown the part you referenced concerning getting the cables through to the room where the NVR is located...you referenced "finding nails on the stud? and drilling through the stud. Why are you looking for nails on the stud? Can you elaborate on the details of this process? Best techniques for finding finding the specific stud to drill through? When you are up in the attic it can be hard to determine exactly what studs map to the room where you are trying to run these wires especially if it's full of insulation. Any fool proof or general techniques you use to ensure you have the right spot before you start drilling through studs willy nilly only to find out that you drilled through the wrong one? Assuming you find the right stud do you just drill vertically through the stud? Could there be wires running through the stud or along the stud that might present a hazard?...could there be metal plates that might join studs together for whatever reason? I presume, that the cables are dropping in behind the dry wall (that wasn't stated and I'm not familiar with home construction), how do you fish them out...do you just cut the hole in the dry wall where you want the wires to come through and then hope that from the attic you've drilled your hole in the right location? I'm assuming the location where you drop the cables might have horizontal "beams" that could potentially block the cable from reaching the specific location where you want the wires to exit (e.g., at floor level)? How do you determine if the cable has a clear path down the wall and doesn't have some sort of blockage? You referenced that you use a stud finder. Is there a specific type of stud finder that you'd suggest. Does a stud finder show pipes? wires? etc...that might be lurking behind the wall? It looks like you used some sort of plastic plate for running the wire through the the dry wall. Any special tricks for installing it so that it looks good? Do these plates come in a kit or do you typically buy the components separately (plate, dry wall screws?, etc.) So many questions and details just around this one step that is key to making this all work.

@@GeorgeLangabeerUnderstand, it's just that the step that you didn't cover in the video is one of the things that kept me from tackling installation of a POE camera system. The last thing you want to do is to leave your attic and/or walls inside of your house with unneeded holes. And my experience is that often times there are special techniques/tools, etc. that can make all the difference in the world between things going awry and turning into a nightmare vs it going smoothly. I'll need to do a little more research on Alibi camera's first as I don't want to waste your time. Based on what you've said in other videos I'm looking for something that is more of a middle of the road system (step up from the "drug cameras but not top of the line.). So Alibi cameras may be out of my price range. Currently I'm looking at the a ReoLink system (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0811V48LG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A22EYB2OIILVQA&psc=1). supplemented with one of their Duo 2 cameras. The 4 cams and 8 channel NVR with 2TB hard drive is on $447 (23% off). So it seems like a pretty good value for the $'s. Thoughts? Cheers
@craigandresen2456 Жыл бұрын
@@jetmartin9501the nails in the top plate simply mean there’s a vertical stud attached below. You’d drill the top plate between these sets of nails to get into a stud bay. If you’re not comfortable with that, watch videos on running wire-I’m sure there’s many.

I am a very capable DIY'er and based off the shape of my home/entry points and each cameras field of view, I want to do an eight cameral install on my home. The issue I have when I'm thinking this thru is that my attic has spray foamed insulation. It is all over the bottom of the roof sheathing and extends all the way down to the top plate of the stud walls. All my cameras will be installed under the roof overhang/soffit area. I'm worried that when drilling that hole in the soffit and trying to run the fish line that I will run into obstructions. (plywood cap off or something similar). I literally can not see what is under the spray foam. I'm half tempted to just go for it and see what happens. I've even contemplated trying to run the cables before I even buy any cameras/NVR. Any advise you can share since you have so much experience. Thanks.

I watched your previous videos, like your idea of being proactive, to stop thieves before they break in, like the idea of outside cameras too, however, the system described in this video, how does it stop a thief from getting in, shouldn't there be an alarm speaker outside? You'd have a video of them to help identify them to police, but a camera won't stop anyone unless there's an outside alarm to scare them off? Does the Alibi system use an alarm and do you recommend one? Cameras alone would just let me watch someone break in, particularly if I'm not home. Last, would the Alibi system notify me on my ap/phone that someone is breaking in?
@GeorgeLangabeer Жыл бұрын
First of all just having good cameras, instead of crap cameras is a deterrent on all its own. You have no idea how many times a camera system pays for itself without you even knowing it. Thieves are smarter than anyone gives them credit for. Trust me, if they go up to house and see these Alibi cameras and their white lights from the Illuminite night vision and they see some cheap Ring system at the next house or some alarm system sign stuck in the front yard, they will go to the ring/alarm system house everytime. Thieves know that even if they were successful, cameras are going to give the police evidence, alarm systems won’t do a damn thing. To answer your other question, yes, Alibi has a camera with an audible alarm and strobes that go off at the same time. But I still recommend the other system I’m talking about in these videos. To answer your other question, yes, you can get alerts on your phone for all kinds of events: people, vehicles , line crossing, intrusion areas, object removal, motion…and if you get their cloud service you can crazy analytics like gun detection. Far superior to anything else on the market and fear superior to having an alarm system.

@GeorgeLangabeer10 ай бұрын
Whoever says 7 feet is a recommended camera height doesn’t know what they are talking about. You want to make the thief at least need a 6 foot ladder to reach the camera. For this install, it depends on the camera. We didn’t show all her cameras, but 3 of them are approx 8 1/2 feet up, one is 15 feet up & one is about 18 feet up. Ideal camera height is 9-12 feet. Low enough to catch detail, but high enough they can’t be reached. The average height of a soffit (like hers) is usually perfect.
@D0TELL10 ай бұрын

@@GeorgeLangabeer Between 7 to 9 feet Mounting the camera slightly below the roofline or eave can provide protection from harsh weather while maintaining an unobstructed view. While the optimal height for mounting an outdoor security camera can vary depending on the specific circumstances, a generally recommended range is between 7 to 9 feet (2 to 3 meters) above the ground. Even when I Google the question. This comes up.
@GeorgeLangabeer10 ай бұрын
@D0TELL I’ve never heard of any of those companies saying those numbers. If they do, they are wrong & it’s because their cameras suck & you can’t get detail much higher with their horrible cameras. If you have a camera at 7 feet, it’s not going to last long. That’s way too low. If you have real camera system (like Alibi) you most certainly don’t need your cameras that low. With a legit camera, you can see faces much further than Eufy, Ring, etc….a thief could destroy or steal a Eufy battery camera (at 7 feet) in 2 seconds….With Ring’s cheaply made cameras, you could destroy them even easier. People at Eufy, Ring, etc. have no real-world knowledge of protecting people from criminals.
