Excellent video. Just getting ready to install one and wasn't sure why 5 inches of tailpiece was needed under the sink but you explain that very well. The instructions also call for over 6 ft of vertical pipe above the check valve before it ties into the outlet. Is that just so that there's water weight to keep the check valve closed? I'm not going to be able to accomplish this in my scenario so hope it's not a deal-killer.

It's supposed to be used in conjunction with a "check valve" for basement applications. Gravity weight of the water above the valve holds it shut. If using it ABOVE the level of the sewer line, you would need a flap valve. P traps don't work with forced water because it creates the siphon effect and would vacuum out the trap.

I thought a P trap would also protect the pump and collect objects like jewelry. I know the screen is there but screens get removed/misplaced.
