Lot of great comments here. Great job on the video, very informative. I got Lanmodo Vast Pro and it has GREAT night time vision (PRIMARY reason I bought it) but the light from green traffic lights causes annoying halo effect and the headlights of other cars are a bit worse. Got it for $280 in one of Amazon's lightning deals. I'd give it an 8.5 - 9. Ordered the 998 now so I can see what it gives me in comparison that is better than the Vast Pro - maybe give me a reason to rate the 998 at 9 or 9.5. Too bad we cannot attach photo here of the Vast Pro night time driving. Oh, the Vast Pro only does 45 degrees front cam / 170 on the rear - I prefer the 170 / 150 that Pormido has...

This video is probably so old you won't be able to help, I just bought a PR998 second hand on eBay but packaged up in original packaging and tidily sent which I thought was a good sign. However, the splitter (that goes into the mirror) is a 5 pin male on the rear cable, but the rear camera cable is a 4 pin female and I'm missing the Backup Camera Connecting Wiring. Is that wire therefore a 4 pin to 5 pin cable? I can't find one to buy. Everything is 4-to-4, 5-to-5, etc (which makes more sense than what I have here - why would it be 4 to 5?). The rear camera looks right from the pics but maybe I've been had and they've sent a rear camera that isn't the one that came with it? Can you confirm what the Backup Camera Connecting Wiring connectors are?

There is currently NO SUPPORT available for the Pormido line of products. I tried updating the firmware with what they have on their website so that I could have my rear camera with a zoom feature, tried following their instruction but not getting it updated. Tried to contact them through their website but the link is not working at all.

That transition between files is very clean compared with most, there is no overlap or repeat. The AM-PM option seems a little redundant though, as they still have the initial zero. It seems to be really good though otherwise!

Were the lenses on the cameras cleaned; or is there finger grease on them? Dirty windows in/out? Reason is there seems to be a lack of sharpness and clarity. Otherwise, an interesting tool . . .
@12voltvids3 жыл бұрын
I just took the protective film off the lens but did not clean it but the windows are also dirty. After all it is the middle of winter and there is salt and sand on all the roads. Clean the windows and there is a film on it in 5 minutes again.

it works fine, back one not so good at night, but that is what you would expect with car lights shining into the camera. Good enough to show the insurance company the video of the bonehead running into the back of you when he wasn't paying attention! There are some right idiots around and it is getting worse, even though the driving test is stricter than it used to be. I think they focus on the wrong things in the test, but there you are, no one will listen to little me.

Hello, may you help to answer these if I do not connect the rear camera's red to my backup light positive, where does the rear camera get power from? and can it be configured that both front and rear recorded all the time when of course driving?
@12voltvids Жыл бұрын
Red wire not required. It gets power from screen. All the red wire does is put the back up lines on the screen.

This looks like the WOLFBOX G840S. I agree the quality isn’t as clear. It’s hard to make out the street names and license plates.
@12voltvids2 жыл бұрын
The whole point is not to be able to make out license plates. That's not what dash cameras are for in case you didn't know. It doesn't matter who hit your car what does matter is who's at fault. if you're driving and someone runs red light and hits you or you hit them because they ran a red light all you need to be able to show is your direction of travel what color the light was and what happened. It doesn't matter if you see the license plate or the street name on the camera although my 4k camera is sharp enough to determine that but that really doesn't matter. All that matters is what happened in the seconds leading up to a crash so that the insurance company and the police can determine who's at fault and clear you if you are clearly in the clear. They don't give a rat's ass the other car all they want to know is were you at fault and if you were your insurance premium is going to go up if you were clearly not at fault even if they can identify the other person because maybe they fled the scene at least you won't be paying your deductible and your insurance rates shouldn't go up because you can prove without a shadow of a doubt that it wasn't your fault and it doesn't matter whether you can read the license plate or not as long as you can prove what happened is all that matters like for example you're sitting at a red light and someone rear ends you and then they try to say that you put your car in reverse and backed into them that type of stuff. Or if you're driving along the road on some jerk in front of you just slams on his brakes for no reason and you hit him and now he's claiming that you rear-ended him. your dash cam will clearly show that you are following at a safe distance and the jackass in front of you Dynamite of this brakes for no reason now you may still get clipped for that but he's also going to get nailed for slamming on his brakes probably more so. Now if a kid runs out on the street in front of him and he slams on his brakes and you hit him then it's clearly your fault because you were following too close to safely stop in an emergency. but again that's all a dash cam needs to show is that you were not breaking the law you were not following too close and you are not the cause of an accident the rest of it is just scenery that we can look at and say wow what a nice road trip we had. 1080 looks just fine for that 4K looks even better but it's not about seeing license plates because the lenses on these cameras are far too wide for that because again you want to see the big picture you want to see what's going on not only in front of the car but to either side so that if somebody hits you you can identify that you were hit by somebody else and not the other way around that's the whole point.

Surely it’s really annoying having a back lit screen right next to your face, especially at night. I don’t even like the new cars that have LCD screen instruments instead of real instruments. I find them really distracting, too glaring.
@12voltvids3 жыл бұрын
When turned down it isn't a problem. What is really annoying us jackasses that put aftermarket illegal lights on their cars and trucks behind you and the glare in the mirrors is unbearable.

@@12voltvids no you’re right there, I won’t buy a car without proper instruments , luckily I think there is a bit of a back lash amongst customers, I’m definitely not the only one. I know it’s to cheapen manufacturing. But I think it’ll be like curved TVs, a short lived fad.

Just a general question for the Bench Tech's out there. It has been suggested to me that other Tech's charge significantly more than I do. I wouldn't mind making a little more than I do now. So the question is...How do you.. or people you know charge? By the hour? Minimum charge? Diagnostic charge? I would really appreciate some feedback. Thanks. DE W9TIT.
@12voltvids3 жыл бұрын
If you can find suckers willing to pay. For me I rarely make anything close to breaking even. Even when I did this work full time, rarely would a VCR charge be over 60.00 and camcorders 80. Big CRT TVs used to net about 90.00 plus 25 pickup and delivery (both ways) More than that and people were ready to toss them. Big screen TVs might have net a couple hundred.. Most stereo components were serviced in the 50-70 range and that was parts and labour! Even today I rarely make more than 60-70 on an item. There have been a few exceptions, such as the 8mm VCR that I changed 57 capacitors on. That one the bill was closer to 200 parts and labour but I also had to makes a special trip, 80KM round trip to get the parts, and spent about 6 hours on this by the time I factored in getting the parts. Diagnostic fee? Good luck. I tried that and when I tried to get a diagnostic fee up front people walked. There is a shop around that charges people 90.00 and then gives huge quotes that nobody will go for, and they survive on that diagnostic fee. There may be a few people with really expensive gear that will spend money on it, but the average person will not. That VCR with the blown power supply. I was offered 20.00 to fix that or I could keep it. No money in this business anymore I am afraid. That is why I got out in 2003. I saw my salary go from about 85,000 a year, which is what I made in the 90s to 42,000 for the last year full year I was in the business. When 2000 hit, the bottom fell out. Like someone turning off the light switch. My bank was concerned about my future work outlook in 2000 when my mortgage came up for renewal. They were concerned that I wouldn't be able to pay it as even in 2000 it was predicted that the electronics repair business would be ending.. They were right, and I was out as soon as I could get out. The ONLY reason I am doing any repairs at all is for the opportunity to make these repair videos, so I can make something from the advertising royalties. If not for that I wouldn't be doing any repairs at all, because there is no money in it. I work basically for free, and make it back slowly with a little bit every month from my youtube channel, but since the revenue is ongoing from views I am actually doing OK.
