I did it the same way and put silicone under the cleat and on the screws. I used liquid nails silicone good stuff

Thank you for this! I was wondering how you were going to keep water out of the kayak after drilling holes into it but I know that silicone doesn't last forever. It might not be a bad idea to reseal them every couple months, just to be on the safe side.

Brenttheviking the kayaks plastic will create a water tight seal on its own but the silicone it just a extra precaution.

I'm just feeling liked I'd use more care in placement and drilling holes in my $$$$ kayak. Also, maybe rivets would be a better route?

rivets without a doubt

Is it possible that water can get in

For Petes sake it just an anchor cleat. Mark the area first, Silicone the screws and the bottom of the cleat with either marine goop or silicone. Attach using stainless steel screws all done. Oh by the way attach the cleat near the front or rear of the kayak never the side. If used to tow it can cause your kayak to tip and fill with water. ....great job!!!!!!!

No anchor in the plastic? A boat anchor will make short work of loosening those screws. If the Manufacturer has screws in the boat they are supported by a cylinder of plastic for grip the length of the screw. You managed to put about two twists of those screws into plastic Folks, use youtube university and find out the correct way before you put holes in your boat. The previous wellnut suggestion is correct. Rivnuts perhaps, also polly Anchors. Trigrip rivets are great too but not for the tall cleat in the vid. And don't put a tall cleat on a kayak anyway. Get a flip up.

Im sure all of that is better but I installed this years ago and still no problems… tight lines. 🎣

Why a flip up cleat? I like the look of them more but other than that, why? I just started fishing from a kayak and learned real quick I need an anchor so I got what I knew. It's not on yet so if there's a reason other than looks that'd be great to know
