In this video I'm demonstrating how to replace your old hard drive with a new SSD (solid state drive) in a laptop. I'm also showing how you can use your old hard drive as additional storage space.
Using an SSD as a system drive will greatly improve your computer's performance.

Thanks for a great video - no unnecessary waffle or hideous music, just really useful info on drive thicknesses and reusing old drives etc. If only all tutorials were this good. Subscribed!

Beautiful, clear video. Easy to see and understand step by step instructions. Lots of extra, useful tips and info. Non-intrusive, relaxing background music. Overall a great experience! Would you have any recommendations/instructions on how to do a good clone from the HD to the SSD? Either way, thanks for the great video!

Thank you so much! When it comes to HDD/SSD cloning, I can recommend MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition - it's a really good tool. Here is a nice article with explanations how to clone your drive: www.partitionwizard.com/help/migrate-os-to-ssd-hd.html.

Have you had any problems with browsing the Internet after installing the SSD? My broswer takes a long time to load pages and sometimes it freezes up. The Task Manager shows multiple instances of the browser process (ex: firefox.exe appears 5 times in the process list) using 100% CPU. I don't think this is normal. I have installed different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Brave, Vivaldi) and they all have the same problem. I have updated the drivers for my internal WiFi, ran anti-virus and malware programs, reboot the router, uninstalled and re-installed the browsers but the problem still persists. I have a laptop: HP DV3510nr - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0Mhz CPU, 6Gb DDR2 RAM with a Samsung 860EVO SSD and Windows 7 SP1.

You should have started with the cloning process before installing the new ssd ?

For your ESD mat to work it needs to be plugged into a grounded outlet.

I know - I just didn't need the ESD protection while I was working on this project.

So, you can replace HHD with a SSD & no cloning. Then just install Windows again ?
@ElectronFunCom
@ElectronFunCom 6 жыл бұрын
After replacing the drive you can install your Windows from scratch or clone your old drive. Many manufacturers provide appropriate software like Acronis True Image.

You forgot to say that in the caddy is a switch that has to be switched depending on the PC brand as shown in this image: g02.a.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1CAjNIpXXXXXNXpXXq6xXFXXXg/12-7mm-Second-2nd-HDD-Caddy-SATA-to-Sata-3-0-SSD-Case-2-5-Hard.jpg because if is wrong switched must cause shutdown problem to the PC. Also you could make even recover the CD / DVD player and make it an external player instead say buy a new one. Still great video.

Thank you for your comment :) To tell you the truth, my caddy doesn't have any switches. What does PC brand have to do with an SSD or HDD? You can use pretty much any brand SATA drive with any PC, as long as it's equipped with a SATA port. When it comes to the CD/DVD drive - you are right. I could have make it into a portable USB drive, but my DVD burner was broken, so I bought an external drive.

Compared with branded PCs have different pins (SATA pin) for the dvd player. Some of these pins there are in some brands and there aren't in other. The switch allows you to change these pins depending on the brand. Some of these pins in different brands create problems with the ground and the PC shotdown (doesn't shutdown). Probably you were lucky with your caddy, but I saw many people in different forums have this problem. I have had this problem too because very few mentioned that there was a switch (at least in the caddy recently sold), so I entered without knowing that I had to change the switch. Here is the picture that explains the problem with electric level but I do not know much: 1.bp.blogspot.com/-jPx31CGcuBA/T89NXgQgy2I/AAAAAAAAAEw/Oa6GltSekIA/s1600/before.jpg The forum where there is the discussion what is the switch: forum.notebookreview.com/threads/second-hdd-caddy-with-a-flip-switch.739486/ I hope I was helpful :)
