How to install an SSD in a stationary PC | computer tutorial

In this video I'm demonstrating how to install an SSD (solid state drive) in a stationary PC. I'm using the SSD as a system drive and leaving the HDD (hard disk drive) as a storage drive. This upgrade will significantly speed up your computer. The operating system will start much faster and it will be much more responsive.

where did you get the cables to connect the SSD? Do they come with the motherboard or the SSD? thanks for the great video!

+alltheparts SATA cables are usually added to motherboards, but you can buy them separately in most stores with computer parts.

This is OK as far as it goes, but left out the most important part, how transfer the OS to the SSD and how to make it the main system drive.

from what i heard you can use the disk your pc came with to reinstall windows or you can clone it to a blank cd (idk how to clone it though)

You can use Acronis True Image or any similar software to clone HDD to SSD and vice-versa..

What if you don´t connect the SATA power cable? My computer does find the SSD but it restarts itself every time Im trying to connect to it :S

If you don't connect the power cable, your disk will not work at all.

I made the SSD my main OS and I'm trying to use the old HHD for a backup. I can see both drives in the Bios, but the HHD does not show up on my device lists, any suggestions?

If your OS is Windows 10, I would suggest checking 'Disk Management' by right clicking the Start menu and selecting it from the list. Your HDD should be on the list of available drives. If you're on Linux you could use your terminal to issue the following command: lsblk. All the connected drives should be on the list.

@@kirkgardner2002 Still not showing your HDD? It means your PC doesnt recognize your HDD anymore i think, try to unplug and replug the power supply on it. Something simillar happened to me too. I should install RAM and after i did that and turned my pc on, it wouldn't even turn it on it says no HDD is insert and recognized or something like this and i was totally lost for what was wrong because i didn't even touch the HDD but got help, i replugged the HDD power supply and after that it worked. If i'm not totally lost in what you mean and your PC doesnt show the HDD up then try this.
