So, I have some tack strips without the arrows showing which should face the wall. The tacks are kind of curved, which side should face the wall ?

Kathryn Curtis hey hey, if the tac strips do not have the arrows to show direction install the strips with the tacs pointed towards the wall. This is how the carpet will be held in place when you stretch on your room Thanks for connecting!

It can be beneficial to put up the base boards first so that if you ever want to change the carpet it will have adequate spacing

Uhhh.. this is not new construction. Base board is already there
