I've been waiting for a video about the new ceiling fan switch from Kasa, because I've been wanting to make my fan smart for the past couple of years. This can also replace single gang single switches too apart from the double switch since the design really shows me it can take the place of a single wall switch that is connected to a ceiling fan with a light, and usually fans with lights have gotta have two load wires, so that if you wanna upgrade from a single to a double switch, you can do that. For the best result, it is recommended that you just go behind the fan to separate the load wires so that only the light wire stays with the hot wire and the fan is on a separate wire, same with the switch.

Yes all TP-Link smart switches are designed to be used in a single gang (Switch box) environment. However the real world environment where this video was shot that was not possible. So we shot the video showing installation in a multi-gang switch box and using a 3rd party Decora style faceplate.
@BobbieTheTechGuy6 ай бұрын
@@TPLINKTECH They can also be used in the single side of double gang boxes. and that new Kasa KS240 ceiling fan switch should actually replace single switches, where there's just 1 switch that controls both a ceiling fan and the included light as I said on the last comment. I just can't wait to buy this one because I've been wanting to make my ceiling fan smart for the past couple years, and the best thing about it is, I have a smart speaker called the Apple HomePod, and since this switch already works with Apple Home, which is the same app my smart speaker works with, I chose this one. and I found TP link has been one of the leaders in smart home devices coming to switches, and their little outlets that you plug into your wall outlet.

The smart switch is compatible with smart bulbs?
@TPLINKTECH2 ай бұрын
You do not want to physically control a smart bulb with a smart switch. It counters the smart functionality. However, you can use smart actions to trigger the bulb with the smart switch.

Do I need to buy two of these if I have two switches that can control the light?
@TPLINKTECH4 ай бұрын
Not sure if i understand the question. It would be best to contact support and show them images of what you are describing. They will be able to tell you if it will work and what you may need.

How do you operate the switch itself manually? I have many Kasa smart switches but can’t find any videos of how this particular one works manually.
@TPLINKTECH6 ай бұрын
On/Off can be controlled by the LED touch buttons on the bottom of the switch. Dim or Speed can be controlled by using the track pads.

Does this require a AC powered fan or does it work with DC powered fan motor?
@TPLINKTECH5 ай бұрын
DC fans will require a DC to AC convertor to be compatible with the KS240. KS240 works on AC

I wouldn't say I like to connect to wifi directly. Is there any HUB or bridge that supports these KASA switches?
@TPLINKTECH4 ай бұрын
No, our switches do not connect to Hubs. We have a few battery operated cameras and smart sensors that do but those would be the only products that do. Some Matter enabled products can connect to matter hubs for control but they would still connect directly to your wifi.

@@TPLINKTECH The design and price are the first things I like about Kasa dimming switches. I am considering changing my entire house's switches (20-25) and want to run smoother and more consistently. Connecting all these devices to wifi will clog my wifi, and every time I change my password, I have to reset every switch and connect to wifi again. Also, I like to keep them local rather than on the cloud. I wish there's a similar hard wire switch that looks like a traditional switch that works with HUE hub.

How to install Kasa KS240 smart switch to existing 2gang switch with lights and fan are separate switch?
@TPLINKTECH3 ай бұрын
While it might be possible to install the KS240 to replace 2 seperate switches we do not have instructions for that as it is outside the standard or intended use. In such cases we recommend contacting a professional to help with installation.

If you have a fan with no light, can you still use this to just control the fan?
@TPLINKTECH6 ай бұрын
Possibly. The light and fan are controlled by different wires. But I am not sure. You can email Kasa.Support@tp-link.com for verification.

Is there a wifi network that these switches broadcast during setup similar to other kasa switches?
@TPLINKTECH6 ай бұрын
All Kasa products have a default open network that you would connect to during the product setup. This is to be able to connect to the product and link it to your home wifi. It is not on the internet so its a local broadcast only.
@PaulMourerLikesMountains6 ай бұрын
Mine never broadcast one, I ended up having to do Bluetooth setup with the kasa app
@TPLINKTECH6 ай бұрын
@@PaulMourerLikesMountains Hi Paul, I double-checked and yes the KS240 uses BlueTooth setup. It's the 1st Kasa product to implement that type of setup. Sorry for the confusion.

would Ks240 switch show up in my smartthing integration after I add the switch to my kasa account?

I want to say yes as Kasa is, from what I am told, fully integrated with SmartThings. However it would be best to message Support for a confirmation.

If the Fan has a switch that controls the power to the Fan and Light then its possible, as long as the wiring is the same as in the video.

How to install Kasa KS240 smart switch to existing 2gang switch with lights and fan are separate switch?
@TPLINKTECH3 ай бұрын
It is not shown as it is outside the standard use of the product. However, it is possible. Just set it up the same way as in the video, the only difference is if each switch has its own load wire then only one is needed and the other can be capped. Still in a situation like this its strongly recommend to have an electrician preform the work.

I use Lutron caseta and I install myself, but KASA interesting design and cheaper compare to Lutron but if hire electrician it’s now expensive compare to Lutron
