The website says “The line sets precharged with R410A refrigerant, the quick hook-up electrical connections, and the quality engineering mean just about anyone can install a MRCOOL DIY in their home.” In theory a r410a pressured lineset with a quick connect from the factory would still introduce air and moisture but in a small amount. Unless it is designed to purge the non-condensables with the r410a as the quick connect is cracking open and before the sealing to outside is complete. It is important to note that POE refrigerant oil used with r410a can create corrosive acids when moisture is introduced, shortening the compressor life by degrading it’s windings. This is a critical difference that r22 and mineral oil did not experience. A hvac tech would shorten the lines to fit, vacuum and check refrigerant levels for utmost performance and reliability.

Just so u know I've had 11 customers this summer in the area with these mr cools. 10 of the 11 had to have a 3 year old system replaced and were denied any warranty. The other customer spent a grand to have a new computer board as well as a bunch of wirining done. These are cheap for a reason. Please just know that before making this purchase. If cheap is what you want this is the system for you! But if ur just trying to save. This will cost you in the end. According to statistics anyways

I love these minisplit systems. The efficiencies are great! These are good for RVs, too! Get one with low wattage and you can run them off a large inverter on batteries. Strap the condensor on to the back of the RV and put the air handler in a back bedroom.

Good job! I had an 18000BTU AEG unit professionally installed a few years ago, so the condenser is on the roof and out of sight. The thing cools the whole house. This was very interesting to see. I think split systems are a terrific idea.

Wow! I just ( a few days ago) installed this exact, same unit. Been through 10-12 "install videos", but this is BY FAR, the BEST! That being said, the DIY part of the Mr Cool series applies ONLY to the Condenser/head/line set installation, and NOT to the electrical. Luckily, I had a dedicated 20A/120v line available, so I wired the romex to a junction box, from there to one side of a Disconnect box, and the other, to the Mr Cool condenser. Both units are whisper quiet, and I would suggest that, if you have over 600 sq ft, size UP to the 18K BTU unit (same install routine): it only comes in 240v, so you will need that electrical installed, however, I bought mine at a "membership only" warehouse, and it is a few hundred dollars LESS than anywhere else, with much better return policies than anywhere else as well, so you may have a few extra dollars available for the electrician The entire MrCool line is on their website, so check your pricing before you buy. While the "head" unit is "light", handling the line set can get unwieldy very quickly, so two people minimum on the install. I did drill the 3 1/2" hole, and it worked out perfectly. I also used the same Line Set Cover as in the excellent install video above. I did use a thread goop on the condenser line set install:Refrigeration Technologies RT201B Nylog Gasket/Thread Sealant. It is designed for AC installs and will not contaminate the refrigerant. Mahalos to the DIY KING for the BEST Mr Cool Install video available on utube.

I had Daikin mini splits installed, mainly because the reviews were uniformly good, and after a year, we have been very pleased with them. Very quiet and efficient. I can't find any reviews for MRCOOL, so will keep an eye out for statements of reliability, as they are much less expensive. Thanks.

Amazing. Our retirement move gave us 3 buildings. We were looking into these. Just subscribed and see lots of videos that will help our retirement. The guest cottage has old fashioned non energy use and noisy unit. Cannot even hear tv. My sewing studio, garage sized has what looks like Barbie air conditioner and now we reconnected the water I dont even want to turn on. All buildings had scorpions and this thing has weeds and tons of silt in it!! It also has no heat. We range from 20 degrees to over 100 so we need heat and cool in both buildings. You must pressure test with nitrogen for leaks and vacuum down the system. It's a must !!! Fail to do so will ruin the compressor in a few years. I'm a HVAC field technician and install these mini splits system weekly.

The system is pre charged the lines are simply filled with dry nitrogen until u break the seal, of that... and the fact he doesn't have gauges or vacuum is the reason this shouldn't be done by yourself, the non condensables that are let into the system with destroy the compressor in half its life.

Great product! I used your idea of uncoiling and routing the extra copper lines “up” into the attic. Some suggest the oils that collect inside the coiled up lines and set for an extended time can compromise the coppers structural integrity. My equipment placement didn’t offer the luxury of mounting the inside unit on an adjacent exterior wall. With that said I also had to route a designated PEX drain line through an interior wall to the outside. Ended up with a very clean install.

Just purge the line before you open the suction. Crack or leave the suction side loose to let some refrigerant out and tighten it back up.

If these lines are not the precharged ones you need to vacuum it down first before opening the ports. Otherwise you introduce moisture from outside air . It might still work but not as good as it could have. You did do a great job on your video.👍

These mr cool units have the charge in the lineset which are already connected to the evaporator, the condenser is already under vacuum. These units are junk but they work for a while

Rolex Enforcer most, if not all mini split units comes pre-charge with refrigerant. The lines sets and head unit is expose to air and have moisture. System needs to go into vacuum first which sucks out moisture and other contaminants. The way this is, wont last very long. The oxygen and moisture in the line will create acid and eventually kill the compressor, and system.

I was just watching videos on that where they use insulation board to wedge them in, some dude in the comments said they make insulation for garage doors and to contact the door manufacturer, he said something about getting it for free? Maybe collecting half used packages of the insulation from door jobs that the company does. I've heard it makes a big difference.

I'll second that. I recently installed a heater. Those insulation panels really keep it nice and toasty. Without them, it ran constantly and still never got it comfortable.

Don't forget your relief cuts so you can get a proper fit, use a good caulk/foam (and hit those outer edges of each panel) or it puts a good dent in that efficiency. Hope to see an update vid on this. Total project runs under $100 in most the US.

The world is ever-changing: Adapt or be left behind. As for pulling a vacuum, Jason... I'm guessing you're (got it?) an engineer too, so was I...and I would have agreed with you, 20 years ago. But I'm guessing these units run at a much lower head pressure (and therefore these units are more efficient, current wise) and less critical of the presence of air in the system..... As he stated in the video: The manufacturer says there is no need to evacuate the lines and evap unit.... I installed one of these three years ago: I shortened the lines & used the gas in the system to purge the lines. I did not evacuate. Three years on....it performs as per spec. In cooling & heating modes. You live & learn. Hopefully. Regards.

The drain that comes stock will not last . I recommend that the drain line be run through a PVC pipe to shield it from the sun.

@@dyoel182 I'm a qualified Refrigeration Mechanic, I've been pulling these rubbish Chinese units out for the last 19 years. The overall bad quality of the seamed copper, Nasty toy compressors and throw away printed circuit boards usually kill them in a couple of years, If the bad powder coat doesn't cause it to rust out first. Yes, some do last longer but they're the exception not the norm. The other major downfall is that these companies will buy a few containers of Chinese units, Import them, slap their own sticker on the front, offer them for dirt cheap with a decent warranty until they're sold out and then pack up shop and fuck off, Which unfortunately for the poor bloke who thought he got a deal means no warranty and no spare parts. (I've seen this happen countless times) Those quick connect fittings are renowned for leaking as well, So much so that the are banned here in Aus. My tips for anyone looking to buy an air con is that you get what you pay for. If you want to save some money in the long run, Buy a quality unit and hire someone that does it every day, You'll save the difference in cash just on the energy efficiency alone. A quality unit such as Daikin, MHI, Fujitsu et-cetera can and in most cases will last 20+ years if they're looked after.
