They stay there forever. The foam is a sealant but the shims are what hold the door in place.

That was a non-realistic view of installing double doors. I'm sure they try to oversimplify it so more people think it's easier than it is. Most door openings aren't square or level and even if you made your own openings the dimensional lumber you get from the big box stores the lumber is pathetic at best. So you won't end up with a precise square and level opening.

I am Shocked Lowe' would post a Video, that is FLAWED! These open IN instead of OUT. So, you have a couple of feet of usable space behind the door swing area. You can't even put a she shed table in the middle of the room!
