How to install G64 addon (2023)

For those asking for the rom: *No,* _I can't put a link to a rom in the description/comments._ If I did my account could be taken down, and I am held responsible for any and all links that I provide according to KZbins T.O.S. If I gave a link to download any rom, I would, (by technicality) be redistributing unlicensed copies of CopyRighted code and endorsing piracy. _That is _*_ILLEGAL._* _Even showing a picture of CopyRighted code is illegal,_ because again, (by technicality) that would be redistributing unlicensed copies of CopyRighted content I do not have the rights to (No matter how small it may be). Along with the fact that there is no way for me to guarantee that the url's data does not change in the future. If say that url changes to something that violates KZbin T.O.S. then I will be held responsible. Even if there is no way to obtain it otherwise, it's still illegal. Even if you think its morally okay to do, its still illegal. -I should make a video on this- I might make a video about this later on (No Promises tho). For now, just be sure that you don't download any browser extensions, don't run any executable files (.exe, .bat, .vbs), and run anything you download through VirusTotal or some alternative (Like an Anti-Virus Software). If you do that, you should be perfectly fine. Personally if you want to find something like this you should check Archive sites. If you want to be specific, the Internet Archive usually has stuff like this for archival purposes (Crazy, I know). (I literally looked up "mario 64 rom" in google and found an Internet Archive link for it Lol) Just make sure the file matches the 2 Hashes, MD5 and SHA1 (to verify the file hasn't been tampered with).

i did everything in the video but when i click on the mario entity it just gives me the text "the addon "g64-1.0.1" is creating errors, check the Problems menu for details"

alright so I've followed every single step very carefully downloading the g64 installer and other alternative solution, but even all that it still wouldn't work for some reason, I've disabled all of my addon's and only kept g64 but it still doesn't seem to work, I'm on the 64 bit version of gmod, is there any other way to make g64 work correctly

Did the console spew any errors when it doesn't work? If so what might those be? If nothing else try a different rom or try an older build.

The map may need to initialize the geometry for Mario if it breaks after waiting a little then you might wanna try a different map.

ROM path is empty please specify a ROM path in the g64 settings - error message. I cant find the file when I browse. Please help

All the files are there but for some reason, the G64 menu isn't showing up in the utilities menu.

Be sure to have all other addons disabled other than G64. Does the console have any errors when that happens?

1.) How did you install the addon? 2.) Does it give you a Lua error? (Like say: "attempt to call field 'CompareVersions' (a nil value)" or "attempt to call field 'SetAutoUpdateState' (a nil value)" in the dev console) 3.) Do you have any other addons Enabled?

I had the same issue but i found a older version of the addon as a folder so maybe uninstall all of the version an ty again. Maybe also try uninstallin the stuff with the g64 installer just oben the installer click on uninstall an install it again.

I think there is no rom that works cuz i used with .z64 and .n64 and guess what it didnt work + when i click browse my games freezes and doesnt even pop the files up this is the worst mod ever! (Pls help)

Try a different rom, make sure the MD5 and SHA1 hashes match and that its .z64. Also make sure any addons other than G64 are disabled.

@@Pandaguy35 Nope, personally the browse function has always worked for me. Just trying to diagnose the issue so that you can fix it. Also you rom does match the MD5 and SHA1 hashes? You also have no other addons enabled, right?

@@Padwtms Yes it matches the hashes and yes i only had G64 installed (On my secound computer where it worked) i think that the browse function doesnt work on a potato computers like i have (And when i copy and paste the rom location it doesnt work and says that i need to make sure it exists)

Either the rom doesn't match the MD5 or SHA1 hash, you didn't run it in 64-bit mode, or the steam deck cant handle it. I doubt that last one though.

@@Oceanplus I dont have a steam deck, No. I use a Home pc. If the steam deck cant run gmod in 64-bit mode, then G64 won't work unfortunately. Does it crash apon loading in or when you click the G64 tab? Also, you do have other addons disabled, right?
