DropAGearDisappear Forgot you asked about the fuel too. They are planning to put on a fuel controller (such as Power Commander or Bazzaz) to correct the AFR. After you install a super free flowing exhaust (like their previous M4 slipon or this Graves full system) it really messes up how much air the bike is expecting to enter the engine (as well as tons of other factors that get messed up like back pressure, intake resonance, exhaust resonance, fresh air inversion, etc.) so it doesn't add the correct amount of fuel (contrary to popular belief the factory O2 sensor is ONLY used at steady throttle highway type conditions so is useless for correcting the fuel when you mess with the exhaust). This usually causes a very snappy throttle (jerky throttle response) and a loss of power down low (too lean) and in some cases surging on acceleration. In extreme cases it can run so lean you can burn valves and permanently damage the engine. I hope they are planning to reflash the ECU instead of just adding on a fuel controller though! A flashed ECU works great without any fuel controller (power commander, bazzaz) but also works amazing with Power Commander AutoTune!! www.stoltecmoto.com/shop/fz-09/14-fz-09-ecu-reflash/

We will be adding a fuel controller soon. To be honest the bike runs fine at this point, no negative performance from the exhaust changes with the exception of the need for the block off plates which are sitting on my desk. Throttle response in not very jerky IMO, easy to keep smooth with good throttle control. As far as being lean to the point of internal engine damage that is something I have never seen happen with any current, modern fuel injected bikes. That said the performance does improve with proper tuning.
@toysareforboys1

Sportbike Track Gear Yeah, the only time I've seen super scary engine damage kinda lean is on a current Ducati, new air filter and full custom exhaust = afr over 16:1. Was an 1199. Really nice flames though! Glad to hear the FZ09 runs OK with the current modifications you've done :) Did you check out the ECU flash I linked up? Are you guys planning on running Autotune?
@sportbiketrackgear

toysareforboys1 Pretty sure we will be running the Bazzaz with the Z-Afm Self Mapper. I looked at the ECU Flash and honestly I have zero experience with it at this point. Planning on getting up to speed with the reflash options out there.

toysareforboys1 So I saw read your post below about the AIS pump and how you could theoretically just unplug the power to the pump and that would solve the popping on decel. Would it be smart to get block off plates as well to seal those holes or is it fine if you just leave the pump there unplugged? BTW im in the process of installing a exhaust so ill be removing the cat. Also i have heard most people recommend leaving in the DB killer on the pipe unless installing a fuel controller due to the increased popping on decel. Would unpluging the AIS fix this problem or would the bike still need the ecu flash or fuel controller to adjust for the new A/F ratio?
@toysareforboys1
@toysareforboys1 10 жыл бұрын
Mike Nemec The AIS pump has nothing to do with the AFR at all, at least nothing to do with the AFR the engine burns at. It blows air into the EXHAUST, which is AFTER everything has went trough the engine. It makes no difference at all as to how the engine runs, just what noises or flames it shoots out the muffler :) Just leaving the AIS pump unplugged is usually fine. When I say unplugged I'm referring to just the electrical connector for the AIS pump, don't disconnect any of the hoses or anything. Sometimes on the dyno you can still see it leaking a little air (it's filtered airbox air so no worries about dirt) so there might still be a tiny bit of pop and gurgle but unless you want to get rid of it completely or run autotune then I wouldn't bother with blockoff plates. They aren't much fun to install, but you save a bit of weight (getting rid of the AIS pump, bunch of hoses, etc.) and clean up the entire area (some say it makes future spark plug changes way easier). It would be a good idea to leave the baffle (db killer) installed in your muffler (to give a little back pressure) until you get your ECU flashed or a power commander/bazzaz. With all three you just drop a fuel map in there and hope the AFR comes out where it should be (which usually it's pretty close, if anything it's on the rich side which these engines love anyway). The only way to see the resulting AFR is on a dyno or with the AutoTune or Z-AFM add-ons. -Jamie M.

what did you say at the end i couldn't hear you very well, what plate? what about the fuel?
@toysareforboys1
@toysareforboys1 10 жыл бұрын
DropAGearDisappear You have to link your youtube account to google+ otherwise people can't reply directly to your comments. The plates he was referring to are commonly called Smog Block Off Plates. Yamaha bikes (R6, R1, FZ, etc.) use a system called AIS (Air Injection System) that blows fresh air into the exhaust on deceleration (primarily to protect the catalytic converter and to help with emissions reduction). Lots of other brands of bikes use a similar system, PAIR, etc. When you get rid of the catalytic converter and install a very open exhaust system the AIS pump causes lots of pop and gurgle on deceleration (and possibly nice flames shooting out of the muffler too). Removing the AIS system and installing smog block off plates gets rid of a lot of the pop on deceleration as well as gives you a true air/fuel mixture if you want to use Bazzaz w/AFM or Power Commander w/AutoTune. Instead of installing smog block off plates you could just unplug the power to the AIS pump and that solves the problem too most of the time (the bike won't throw a check engine light). @@exothermal.sprocket So what does do to your dyno numbers? U won't be able to tune it properly?
@exothermal.sprocket
@exothermal.sprocket 5 жыл бұрын
@@rickyw.2631 The PAIR system is there to feed oxygen into the exhaust system just before it reaches the catalytic converter. After modifying the exhaust, the PAIR still puts oxygen into the exhaust and dyno shops often put sniffers on the tail pipe to adjust the air/fuel ratios for the engine. If they PAIR system is diluting the exhaust stream, teh readings won't be correct. Simply remove the PAIR or put a plug into the intake side of it.
