How to install s550 Mustang MASSIVE Flame kit (Hotlicks) Wiring simple!

Just some words of advice from someone who built their own flame thrower kit years ago when i was in highschool( video on my channel) the spark plugs need to be placed in the pipes coming out of the muffler right before the tips. Placing them in the muffler like that wont work. You are just igniting the unburnt fuel inside the muffler cavity which at best at night you will get a backfire type flame out of the tips, not an actual sustainable flame. The reason your car keeps going into limp mode is because the ecm is registering missfires from when the coils are losing energy and the spark plugs in your engine arent firing. Newer cars will trigger limp mode anytime it senses the lack of an explosion in the cylinder whether it be a failed ignition from spark, or fuel injector not putting enough fuel in. Also if you have cats they will greatly reduce any unburnt fuel from reaching the rest of the exhaust to ignite and can melt your cats from all the excess unburnt fuel building up in them. If the cats are burnt out do they just act as a straight pipe?

@@holdenknight4197 no when they burn out they generally melt, then break apart and chunks wedge in the rest of your exhaust causing a blockage. If you take them off, you can bust the insides out with long screwdrivers and a hammer, but I am not suggesting anyone do so for legal reasons. But yes if you break the insides out they will just be an open chamber with no flow restriction.

@@raindezed no tune, but it works best if you don't have catalytic convertors as they burn off any excess. Unburnt fuel.

@@key7k Catless with a h pipe And it’s good bro and I mean it’s not just good for your engine to dry rev and pops and bangs but it’s been pretty stable no issues but then again u not gone be shooting flames every minute they out your day so I’m sure what u want to use it for it should b fine I’m almost to a year since I installed the hotlicks flame kit and I still rather this over a flame map cuz my 3v mustang gt had a flame tune and now she rest in piece

So does cutting the ignition to dump unburnt fuel into your exhaust cause any damage to the engine over time? Apparently running too rich can harm the engine, and I would assume this is basically the same thing as running extremely rich? Or does it only cut ignition when you're off the throttle or something?

Yes, In all vehicles, excessive use will cause damage to your engine, however there are certain things that can attribute to this. For example, if you have an older less computerized vehicle the damage will take a long time to become noticeable and be fairly minimal. However with the newer vehicles, adding something like this can cause havoc on the computer and sensor systems. I have a 2015 f30 that I just had to take to the shop because i stupidly installed this and it sent the vehicle into a permanent limp mode state. I would not recommend using this on your daily, but if you have a project car or a beater, its pretty cool.

Unless something was broken (which can be replaced or fixed) I don’t understand what you mean by “permanent” limp mode… limp mode is the computer protecting the engine from damaging itself further if I’m not mistaken and a qualified person should know how to turn off limp mode and fix whatever is tripping it. It’s not like permanent like throwing a rod thru your hood if you can just reset the software or whatever and suddenly it works again lolll

@@Coledebord2 You are absolutely correct in your definition of "limp mode" Allow me to correct myself. My Bmw 335i is in a "rolling tin can" stage as quoted by the last of 4 major bmw technicians in the state of North Carolina. I have spent almost 12k for parts and labor and the bmw technicians are not even an inch closer to solving the issue of what is throwing the car into limp mode. We have reset/changed out the ECU and other major computer components, redid the entire ignition system, including the air-intake system, and other system reading components. The reason I used the term "permanent limp mode" is due to the fact that the car simply will not exit limp mode and has been that way for almost a year. I have plans to ship it to Chicago for one more go at it before I turn it into scrap metal and start over.

Why couldn’t I just use a separate battery, that I could place in the trunk to power the box and spark the plugs, then I would not have to mess with my fuse box on my brand new 2024 mustang and definitely void my warranty ?

This works by cutting ignition, allowing excess fuel to flow into the exhaust. When you press the button, it basically sends fuel into the exhaust and when you let go, it sparks again, igniting the fuel and creating the flame

If you do it right, you won’t void the warranty. Just make sure you hide the cut ignition wire well

I had flame kit on my mustang, but to avoid it going into limp mode when not driving and shooting flames and popping keep rpm’s above 2900rpm and car shouldn’t go into limp mode

Oh buddy, it’s sparking lol… that’s how you getting the bangs… your problem might be your not getting enough fuel to make flames. You got enough atomized fuel to make and explosion just not enough to make a flame… curious to know what the issues. Ps: the company that makes those says the engine needs to be gutted cats or catless… if you have cats, that’s likely your issue

It’s not sparking because you are running too lean. Rev match downshift at speed if there is no flame you’re lean AF.

Catless will definitely work. You’ll have to mess with the activation times (when you press the button) but I’d say with the Whipple you’ll make some crazy flames

Diesel fuel works off of combustions and pressure. Diesel trucks don’t have spray plugs since no spark is needed to make the combustion happen.
