Surprised nobody has said anything but you really should drench those bushings in the grease they provide when you buy them. If they didn't give you any grease then you bought from a really really cheap company. Energy Suspension sells a kit for $13 and provides way more grease than you need. Without the grease those bushing will get damaged much sooner and you will probably hear them all the time too. Grease is a big part of doing this right.

Very important. Appreciate someone mentioning it

Yes! If a kit omits it, get the stiffest silicone grease you can find - that's what my kit (branded "Prothane") came with.

I just replaced mine with aluminum bushings with no grease and found out the hard way. Scared me because i thought it was my transmission. Drenched those suckers thanks to you

All of us in the rust belt (me in ny) would be like here’s how we change a shifter bushing. “Breaks out the torch set” first you wanna make this bolt here not exist anymore and then go ahead and run to the hardware store and grab ya a new bolt and slap it on there lol 😂 awesome content though man I like how you compare old to new and show everything in depth !

I wonder how the aftermarket bushings feel compared to brand new OEM ones. I'm debating if I should just replace mine with OEM.

Great video! I just did it in my '99 civic and the thing shifts like new. FWIW, I replaced only the front bushing. My rear bushing seemed to be in fine shape, and a flange was going to make removal and replacement very difficult.

I replaced mine with the same brand of bushing and also put a E bay short throw in also(96 civic), I did run into a problem is the stock bolt would not go into the metal sleeve of the new one, I had to go get a new bolt that was threaded all the way, the e bay shifter hasn't broke like others on here complain but then I'm not slamming it to break on purpose like other videos.

had to remove the transmission this past weekend on mine. A buddy and i had the same issue, we ended up having to use a small grinder and cutting the nut off and putting a new bolt, with washer and lock washer, and a nut on the other end.

Wish my EJ8 was still that clean under there. Really looks good. Mine is a 340,000 mile car that's been on salty roads it's whole life. Still cleaner than most up here but bad enough to change the nature of even small jobs like this. I wonder why none of the kits come with the third rotation bushing. I've never changed mine but would like to.
@chickensfloat74272 жыл бұрын
I know your pain. Grew up in Wi my jeeps a rot box but bought a 99 4dr 5 speed rust free here in florida, just drove it home today and its totally different than my jeep. The jeep is high civic low. Slow and quick. Handles awful and handles good. Rough and smooth, boat rowing shifter vs much shorter throw. V8 vs i4, rwd vs fwd, locked diff vs open. That on top of a new area ive never driven in and its a miracle i didmt wreck it on the way home. She runs good but some small tlc needed like a hood release handle, a rear door doesnt open, and defrost doesnt work but hey it was only a thousand bucks for a running driving civic but the shifter is awfull so im gonna try some bushings and see if that helps. Its too quiet too i camt hear when to ahift half the time so i want louder but dont know where to get a muffler that doesnt sound like crap

@@chickensfloat7427 A $1,000 5spd Honda from florida is a great deal. Mine was $1,200 with 200k and I've been offered $1,200 after 300k. There aren't too many of these cars left that haven't been messed with too bad.
