How long you can keep your synthetic dreads in depends on how fast your hair grows. Some people start to find them irritating after 4 weeks or so, because they get a little floppy and loose in the braid due to grow-out. Never keep them in for more than 3 months - or your real hair will start to dread!
@doctoredlocks11 жыл бұрын
The manufactured dreads are like that - they aren’t backcombed. They do naturally “dread” more over time. A lot of my friends reuse the same ones loads of time and they just look better and better with time. :)

THAAAANK YOUUUU. I'm installing dreads to give my hawk some time to grow out and I was worried I wouldn't be able to install them on the short sides. YOU'RE SO WONDERFUL! :D
@doctoredlocks12 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use synthetic dreadlocks more than once. When they are removed, you may need to add a little backcombing or go over them with your sealing method again to freshen them up, but they can be used more than once. You can absolutely shower with them in! The best method for washing your hair that we recommend is to pre-mix shampoo with water in an applicator bottle, so the shampoo gets down to the roots where it's really needed. And when your shower is over, be sure to dry them well!
@doctoredlocks11 жыл бұрын
You can use either SE or DE for a super short install. We have the SE video coming out soon. As long as your hair is long enough to put into a tiny ponytail, dreads are possible. :)
@doctoredlocks11 жыл бұрын
That really depends on what you mean. Services like this are typically 1-3 hours and can range between $30 and $60 per hour. Generally it depends on the stylist doing the work. It’s a specialty service so it can be kind of hard to find someone game to do it. Just check around your area for braiders or stylists with braiders. You should be able to find someone to give you a quote. :)

Yasss! Perfect!
@doctoredlocks11 жыл бұрын
Yes, and we actually have a video coming out with that technique - not that that helps you right now - BUT, yes. It's totally possible! Take your section, split it so you have two pieces - one on top of the other - not side by side as in DE. Pull the top section through the SE with the dread flipped up and the top section of hair pulled down through the loop. Join the top section with the bottom and band them together. Next band them both to the dread and you've got it! :)

The exterior gel may rinse away. They don't get slimy in a "I'm gonna fall out" kind of way, if that is what you are envisioning. :) They are surprisingly stable and the gel doesn't affect the stability one bit. It gives you better control when you put them in and helps keep flyaways at bay. Cheers! Doc
@doctoredlocks11 жыл бұрын
You do them in the same manner for each section. You can leave the front hairline out if you want bangs or fringe.

Super! I was looking for this for a few days. I shaved my back head like a triangle for years so 1/3 of my hair is extremelly short, now I kinda want it back, but I got long hair now and I dont want to cut it. Also is a bit expensive to pay like $30 every 2 months just to cut my heair and take from lengh 2cm. So I want to wait to grow a bit and install syntethic dread locks. I want to do it all by myself at home. It will be that half head aestethic. Thank you for the video!

Glad I could help! It's a great way to help grow out shaved sections.

You can do dreads and then put synth dreads in over them until yours are longer. I wouldn't connect the synth dreads in permanently because they wont blend the same. We do have some tutorials on putting in human hair extensions - those would be a better choice for anything long term.
@doctoredlocks11 жыл бұрын
Well, I’m sure you could braid it in, and then just leave it. I’m just not sure that’s the look you’d want to go for. You could try doing a regular SE Dread installation and try matching it to the bulk of the natural hair - that would be your best bet.
@doctoredlocks12 жыл бұрын
Yes, and actually, that's the perfect time to use this method! You can always do a different method for your longer hair and use this to fill in where you need. :)
@doctoredlocks11 жыл бұрын
Nope, I've been using elastics for years with no damage. Unless your hair is being pulled too tightly or somehow rolling up in it there is no way it could damage your hair - both of those concerns are more regarding installation though. :)
@doctoredlocks11 жыл бұрын
Hmmm... well you could try the scalp relief spray. Generally itchies come from having them too tightly installed, and tend to last about 4 days (if you don’t itch them - then they seem to last a bajillion years). It doesn’t usually happen because people are allergic or because they are scratchy - both are common misconceptions. We have a SE on super short hair video that is coming out soon. Subscribe to our channel to be notified when it’s released! :)

I wish I could take credit for this method, but I didn’t make it up, only filmed it. It works like a champ though!!
@doctoredlocks12 жыл бұрын
It's best to only wash bangs or parts of your hair left out (if any) when needed, and your whole head, dreads and all, once every couple of weeks. After washing you must make sure your dreads dry COMPLETELY. You can let them air dry if it's warm enough, or blow dry if it's cold. It will take you quite a while! Doc's dreads in this video are human hair extension dreadlocks, but she is now working on dreading her natural hair, so she'll have real ones with extensions.

That is a wonderful take on dreadlocks, however, it is not one we personally subscribe to. Dreadlocks are a personal statement that we believe anyone can make, without limitations. And, in response to other comments made, it certainly isn't a topic that should be open to making fun of anyone for what they personally think. :) Thanks for watching, and for your thoughtful feedback!

Think doing a wrap and crochet the ends of the wrap to hide the rubber band.
@doctoredlocks6 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea! It will make your take down harder though. This method was built to just hide the attachment without doing anything too permanent. If you crochet in, try to do it sparingly so you can get the hair and band off for your take down. :)
@LampWaters6 жыл бұрын
@@doctoredlocks with short hair if u wrap past the hair crocheting the wrap shouldn't be a problem. Once cut to remove you would still be left with just the rubber bands. How long do your clients leave in? When I do rubber band braids in my daughter's hair the band's start to get gummy. Any way to avoid gummy bands with locs?
@doctoredlocks6 жыл бұрын
Certain rubbers will get a bit mushy with oils - so if you can keep the oils off (scalp, conditioning oils etc) you'll have better longevity. Also, you might try orthobands or our elastic matrix thread - you might find better luck with those.

@doctoredlocks7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You can get dreads to wave up in a variety of ways - mine are human hair - so braiding them for a while works - or for shoots where I needed more curls and volume, I used a setting lotion (like a watered down gel), then used a roller set and dried them to bone dry. You can also perm curls into them - we have a video on that. The perm won't last forever, but it goes strong for a few months. :)

You can install dreadlocks of any color of the rainbow in your natural hair. If you're worried about your natural hair braid showing against the dreadlock color, you can always cover you base color. Can you use synthetic dreads more than once? Like, Once you've put them in do you have to take them out for a shower? Once you've taken them out can you reuse them?
@doctoredlocks11 жыл бұрын
Pretty darn short. On dreads, you just need to be able to wrap your hair around the dreadlock to secure it. On braids, the shorter your hair is, the smaller the braid will have to be. You need a few "turns" in the hair to secure it. Microbraids are a popular choice for shorter hair. :)

This is a temporary installation method that usually lasts 6-8 weeks. At that point, you will need to take them out, comb out the shed and then can reinstall.
@doctoredlocks11 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use this method to do that. This method makes sure your natural hair doesn't lock. The one you want to look for is adding permanent dreadlocks. We have a video on that too. Just check our channel and search for "permanent human hair dreads." If you can't find the link, send me a private message or email us (address in the description) as youtube doesn't allow links in the comment section.

Sounds like you need to loosen your braids slightly or watch out for cross-hairs. This method can be done extremely tight - which if not careful can make your head really angry. If you back off it slightly, you shouldn't have near the amount of problems.
