The answer is YES - make a back up. Even the maker of the mod says so. Any mod is basically fiddling with game files, always back up a save before a mod, if it matters to you. Also - you are a beast man, well done! I struggled my first attempt, and got 100hours in before putting down my controller, well done man!

The games version has to match the version the mod supports - you probably need to roll back

You do not have to no - worked fine for me :) Some mods require it though, and you will get a pop up in the beginning saying you are offline..

Quick question: I'm running the downloader. When the unpacking finishes, does the downloader window close automatically? I'm asking because I already got the Installation Successful message, but I don't have all the files you have, so I believe it's still unpacking.

If you still dont have them, I would go to where you launch the downloader, and not start it, but just doublecheck where it puts those files

I wouldnt guarantee that, but not 100% sure. But I know you can take a save file and make a back up - that is something I would do 100%. The makers of the mod gives that same advice.. And thanks for checking out my video!

@ragingpanda816 sounds to Me like it opening and then being blocked. Inside windows security (or something similarly named), go look for the name of the launcher and see if windows blocks it

You can start the mod or the game at will, but keep a back up of your character. The more you flip a character back and forth, the higher the risk of breaking that save. In general, if you take a character to the mod, you should not take that exact same character back to vanilla - ever.. enjoy! 🙌🏻😊

can't get the game to start via convergence. I already played with mods before (e.g. Elden ring reforged (ERR), seamless coop), before the DLc release. Back then the game worked perfectly, as of right now I can't get ERR to work but seamless works. I deinstalled all mods and the game before downloading convergence. I have both Elden Ring and convergence on the same drive. yet when I start Elden ring via the launchmod, the game opens and closes itself within 5-10 sec. I have never seen the gamelogo it drops out before that. the troubleshooting tips didn't help. any other suggestions? I only installed the "Convergence ER Downloader" from nexus mods, not the "Convergence ER v1.4.2.2. manual download ofc. help would be much appriciated. Also can you play that mod with friends (seamless coop) and can you play the mod with, let's say posture bar mod?

Hey! If you go into the discord for convergence, they have a lot of info for you. For example, you have to roll the game back a few versions, they have not updated the mod yet to match the latest versions of the game..

Honestly - go through the comments, you will see I have answered every single one… this is the first one to happen after character creator… You are sure you are running the exact version of the game, supported by the mod? That has been the most common cause for issue since the dlc dropped

Based on my comments, I think the DLC is actually mandatory now - haven’t tested myself, but that seems to be the conclusion from people I have troubleshooted with here :)

@KorewaKosmo dont have the cajones to promise it won’t mess with your save. But when it is an incremental rollback like that, previous experience for says its fine - I would personally give it a go. Using any mod though, I would start over. The mod is in beta after all, so issues may occur. Is that immediately upon opening, or after trying to save? Did you make back up copies of your old saves, or are you trying to play the mod, with a “non mod” save?

@bongo7172- do t know if it will work, but an idea… Locate your save files, make backups in a folder outside the game installation, then try again. Note that the mod version is probably still not updated to support the game after Shadow of the Erdtree released, even if you dont own the DLC

It won’t finish downloading via the downloader, I’ve put it as the administrator, put it in both the game file and a unique file and restarted the computer multiple times. It won’t go further than 75% or if it does it stays in unpacking for ever. Is there anything I can do?

Sometimes an Nvidia update will freeze for me, because windows security blocked it with a pop up hiding in the taskbar. Have you tried turning off ALL windows security stuff, just while doing this?

If the mod provider has an older version of their mod on Nexus, then it would be possible, otherwise not. A lot of peoole had the opposite problem after the DLC came out, as the mod needed time for updating

my game isn’t an exe file and when i look at its properties there is no comparability tab (just read that the mod isn’t yet up to date with the latest version so that’s most likely has to do with it)

However, the game ABSOLUTELY have an exe file, all executable programs do. If it didn’t have one, it would be like a car without a key. But yes, uninstall the mod to via Steam to play it, till the mod is updated- its under the dlc tab in the games properties in Steam

Honestly - I have not tested myself. Based on the comments here, I would say its possible. It really depends on what they write on the seamless co-op mod page - it should state clearly there, what version of the game it supports. The Convergence mod now requires Shadow of the Erdtree as well

Not sure really - the mod maker advises against flipping in and out of saves… Is your character from and older version of the mod? I would test running that exact version

Does this happen ONLY if you choose classes from the mod? Does the same happen if you choose a class native to the vanilla game? Is the game and the mod on the same drive? Did you try all the troubleshooting in the video?

Not entirely sure I understand the question. But the download and installation shouöd be on the same drive as the game. If your game is installed in the C drive, it should all go in there

That is the “standard destination”, assuming you havent made a custom destination for Steam or the game itself 🙂 The description on the mods own page is also very thorough - if you have the DLC, it doesn’t work with that yet, fyi

Hey! I feel like the mod site itself says something about both, but also warns against using non mod saves in the mod, as it as it may impact the mod. If you do it though, make a back up of your save. Or do you mean that you are ALREADY using the mod and want to update? The mod downloader should be able to do that. @CliffhangerDK as far as I can tell the newest update of the mod works with the most recent version of elden ring though I did run into one issue but I'm unsure if it's because of the version or if it's just because I played it through family sharing as in there discord it states there's known problems with using family share but it didn't state the problems so I don't completely know

Immediate reaction is that the mod should work with other versions, but I thought the game is only sold on Steam? But to my knowledge, as long as you are on pc and follow all other instructions (game placement on same drive), you are golden

@@CliffhangerDK I think it is on Epic too. Tried to log in on base game and kept getting "Cannot connect to Epic Online Services" today so my guess it's tied to Epic as well.

@@naikus3d Epic Online services are not great though… I remember trying to play Remnant 2 with a friend - one version from Steam, one from Epic… Epic Online caused a LOT of frustrations

If it is the mod downloader you mean, try disabling all Windows Security while you do it. If you mean downloading the mod via your browser, I would test a different browser, or also a different browser AND disabling Microsoft security whilst downloading

Temporarily disable antivirus. Assuming you use the correct mod on Nexus, it is DEFINITELY not a virus 🙂

my download process gets stuck on unpacking phase, various stages at various attempts to download it. any interaction with the dowloaded zip is impossible, i have created two empty desktop folders to put the mod in them, both got stuck, one was run as administrator and it got stuck faster than the normal download.

this does not work for ver 1.12 . i find it absolutely a waste of time to go back versions of a game because creators cant keep their mods updated. if you dont have the time to keep up with your created content then remove it so people cant download it . its a waste of space on the mod site leaving an outdated mod up for people to try and download when it doesnt work with the current version of a game.

@@CliffhangerDK i have been wanting to try out the convergence . i really like playing new content . but every tie i go to nexus its plastered on the first page like everyone should down load it and play it but it wont work with 1.12 version. tried doing the down patching through steam with beta but the only thing is the none choice . you cant go back to any past version of the game.

The mod is still not updated to the last version of the game after Shadow of the Erdtree came out - you have to roll back a few versions

Noted, thanks for feedback. My point was to save the folder on the same drive as the game. Have the game installed in D:drive? Then use that for the mod as well
