How to install the Victron DC-DC Charger

Thank you for the excellent videos. I have to disagree, however, with your choice of fuse position on the DC-DC Charger output line in this video. The fuses should be near to the energy sources - which, in the case of the output line, is the Leisure battery. Placing the fuse as you have suggested next to the DC-DC Charger leaves the wire to the leisure battery completely unprotected in the case of physical damage/short to chassis. The leisure battery in a source of extremely high energy, especially if it is LiFePO4.

This is the BEST video I have found for installing the Victron DC to DC charger in a motorhome EXCEPT you do not really get into how to properly circumvent the EBL, and I could not find this in your other videos. Please elaborate. I have an older motorhome that has a cross-connect switch for the vehicle/chassis lead acid batteries. Please review the proper handling of this. Thanks.

If you have an alternator dedicated to charging your auxiliary battery, you should use an isolated DC-DC.

Great video! I think I'd want to completely remove the split charge relay. And a mod I'd introduce is a manual switch, accessible in the cab area which is wired between the D+ signal and the "H" terminal in the jumper block. I could then disable the B2B quickly via a simple switch throw rather than scrabble around getting to the B2B and pulling the jumper block out. Of course there's always the app but that assumes my phone is to hand etc.

Hi Roger.. its not that cold in Blighty is it? The red D+ wire going to the right hand side of the green plug.. the other end goes to a 12v ignition source? So when ignition is on that red cable is live with 12v if im correct in saying.

Probably should also add a cautionary note, that many EBL’s incorporate a hab battery charging facility from shore power. If replacing the hab battery with a LiFePO4 you MUST also disable the legacy shore power charging along with the engine battery charging capability.

on my boat I have a single FLA battery for house and starter duty. Also have 2 FLA in series for a 24V trolling motor. My starter/house tends to run down after hours of fishing with fish finder and livewell running. Was thinking about adding a single 24V 100AH Li battery for the trolling motor. BUT also powering the house load from this battery through a 24-12 DC converter. Do you see any issues with this?

No but Xmas time victron are bringing out a 12/12/50A DC/DC with coms. Just need a VE Direct cable to the Cerbo

The older version of the Orion cannot be connected to the Cerbo GX, but since recording this video Victron notified us that we can preorder the new Smart DC-DC BuckBoost that will ship early December and this version allows connectivity to the Cerbo. will this system work with a Schaudt EBL99, as when D+ closes the Main Relay in the EBL. Both Batteries are connected together and the higher curent can flow back to the starter Battery, Bypassing the Dc-Dc Charger ???
