I love what you’ve done with the shed, it looks awesome. You may be planning doing this but I would still have several mats in the winter (when you have guests) so people with skate guards or snowy boots don’t slide around when coming indoors and mess up your floor. I am looking forward to your ODR series this winter.

Thanks @wrenchdoozer! I'm definitely planning to get mats. I've been in touch with American Floor mats with questions about their recommendations. I may test out their 1/4 inch thick rolls. I just need enough so anyone with skates on won't push through. I've also looked at the interlocking puzzle style mats. I basically want something that is as light weight as possible, and easy to store. They said the rolls may retain their shape a bit if you store them longer than a few months. Not sure how bad that would be or if it would be a big deal. I like the puzzle ones, for storage etc, but they do have a lot more seems. I do think no matter what that i'll want to do some sort of an underlayment underneath the rubber in case snow melts a bunch and gets between any of the rubber. I had a roof underlayment under the horse stall mats and that actually worked super well. Will defintiely share what I end up going with though and I can't wait to start filling the rink. Thanks for following along man. I appreciate it. Hopefully you get in some time out on an ODR this winter too! Cheers

I am going to scale down my ODR this season and put more effort into the toboggan run which seems to be more popular among family members. We have a 20 foot elevation drop in the backyard so it makes it fun especially when you ice it down and make large sweeping turns.

@@wrenchdoozer That's awesome. Sounds like we are in the same boat. We actually downsized the rink a little bit in length and width this year since we have a newborn, and also are going to do a little bit of traveling. I'm excited to spend a little less time snowblowing and doing maintenance. Will see though! What size ya doing this year? -- We have a sledding hill as well that is already seeing more use this winter than it has all last year with the age of our oldest. That toboggan run sounds like a blast for your family!

Can't wait for some ODR updates. Finally getting some colder temps here in northern Wisconsin and look forward to putting some walls up this weekend. Great Video!

Hey Brodie! Awesome things are cooling down there! We got our walls up the other day, and if my liner arrives soon I will start filling next week! Good luck getting it setup this weekend!

Nice work. Thank you for sharing. We have a screened in porch on a slab in the back of the house that we've been updating to turn it into a kind of at-home party-shack area. After watching your video I'm thinking an LVP floor in there might be one of the last upgrades it needs. 🤔👍🍻

I think it could be a great option for that party-shack area!

I love your channel. Thanks for all of the great content! Teaching me a lot of great DIY projects I can do. Just need to slowly build up my garage of tools and save up for the next project!

Hey thanks Collin! That means a lot man. I hear ya on building up your tool inventory and doing it over time. I'm 39 now and have been slowly building it since I was about a junior in college. Have fun building up the inventory and building your next project man! Cheers

Do you need anything to glue it down?
@DIYPETEКүн бұрын
Hey! You don't secure it with glue or nails, it is a floating floor. I've done them in other sheds as well as large rooms. They work great. I did them in our old home and we had 2 dogs. They held up really well to scratches, unlike the wood floors we have at our newer home that are all scratched up. I'd like to put plank floors in our current home at some point.

I'd love to get someone's opinion on vinyl floors. I really love the look of hardwood but I have a dog that loves to play and a kid on the way. I know from a durability standpoint vinyl is the way to go but does the higher end vinyl feel like hardwood? I don't want it to feel mushy under my feet like some of the cheap ones do.. What brands should I be looking at? Thanks!

Hey Gage! Hoping some others chime in as well, but I will share my experience with luxury vinyl at both our old home and my mother in law's home. ( We have hickory hardwood in our living area currently which was brand new 6 years ago and is all scratched up now.) We have 2 black labs, 4 years old and 14. Anyhow, at our old home, our luxury vinyl was super durable and held up great. And we visit my mother in law quite often and for the holidays. When we go, we usually take our 2 dogs, and there are a total of 5 dogs there. She has had luxury vinyl for 3 years now on her entire main floor. She doesn't cheap out on anything so she did her research. And she has been very happy with it. It honestly has held up great for her, and does very good with dogs. I'm sure there are some scratches, but you don't notice them. At least basically nothing compared to our hardwood floor. I don't know what brand she has. We have planks that were about $3.29 / sq foot from home depot called LifeProof. I haven't had dogs on it much yet so I can't speak to it. I know Costco has a lot of options in the $2.30 range for luxury vinyl and have heard good things. As far as mushyness, mine feels like a hardwood floor. There is not a separate underlayment ( it is built into the board ) - and it rests directly on the flat subfloor underneath. I would say it is crucial that any dips or high points be address before doing a new floor as that could cause the feeling you are mentioning. -- Anyhow, maybe purchase a box of luxury vinyl and build out a little 4x4 test area or something to see what you think of the feel. I definitely love it though and when we add onto our home, our kichen, hallways, and main living area will have it installed. --- Would love to have others chime in and share their experiences with it holding up to dog scratches etc! Great questions Gabe!

@DIYPETE thanks for the thorough response! I think the underlayment built in might help alot as mentioned. I'll look for boards with that feature!

I'm looking at this project for a bedroom project. My wife says her hospital has it. It is almost indestructible.

Nice! I think it would be a great option. And I agree, it is super durable!

Have you considered making some hockey locker stalls that double as shelves/storage? It may be a nice touch to go in-front/behind a table or desk if someone works there as either a seat for the desk of shelving behind it. I think it would add some nice character as well as being functional for the outdoor-rink season.

My wife has been on me about getting closed storage so I can put some books / documents etc and hide things so they look more organized. So definitely been thinking about some sort of a solution, but I love the idea of hockey locker stalls that could double as closed cabinet storage. I was going to just break down and buy something, but you are inspiring me to take a little time and build something cool, perhaps with some logos on it. I did a kids hutch/locker ( but without storage ) - many years ago here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6OWhYKmf86Xr5Y - and could see perhaps something similar but with doors. Thoughts?
@Admirable_Western20Күн бұрын
@@DIYPETE Perhaps large tambour doors? Maybe they would be too large to be viable, but they would both look nice (and fulfill your wife's wishes) and be easily hidden/moved out of the way for use for hockey. To accomplish this, you could make a similar locker to the one you linked and just at tracks on the surface of the bench and roof to allow the doors to slide behind the back. This is what gave me the idea: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3qolneKobp2ibs

@@Admirable_Western20 Just checked out the video you linked to. That is pretty cool, and neat he used a CNC for some of the process. I might have to try something like that on a small scale. For now, i kind of need to just knock something out quick to fullfill the wife's wishes haha:)
