2:53 | Take hose off thermostat
3:11 | Remove thermostat assembly from engine
3:34 | Remove water pump pulley
3:45 | Remove supercharger idlers and tensioner
4:17 | Remove supercharger pulley
4:29 | Remove supercharger support bracket
4:39 | Remove alternator
5:07 | Disconnect PCV hoses from valve covers
5:14 | Remove coil covers
5:17 | Disconnect and remove ignition coils
5:45 | Disconnect wiring clips to cam phasers
5:54 | Disconnect fuel injectors
6:06 | Remove bolts and take off valve covers
6:29 | Take bolts out and remove water pump
6:37 | Remove bolts from sway bar for better access to engine
6:56 | Remove bolt from crank pulley
7:03 | With pulley removal tool, remove the crank pulley and stretch belt
7:26 | Remove bolts from oil pan that go into the bottom of the timing cover
7:37 | Remove all timing cover bolts
7:50 | Remove timing cover from engine
7:59 | Remove spark plugs
8:09 | Install stock bolt back onto crankshaft with spacers
8:25 | Verify the timing mark on the Billet unit is on top
8:40 | Remove the bolts and the RH primary timing chain tensioner
8:51 | Remove the bolts and the RH primary timing chain guide
9:04 | Remove the RH timing chain
9:09 | Rotate the crankshaft clockwise until the keyway is at 5 o'clock position
9:17 | Remove bolts and the LH primary timing chain tensioner
9:29 | Remove the LH timing chain tensioner arm
9:38 | Remove the bolt and LH timing chain guide
9:53 | Remove the LH timing chain
9:56 | Remove crank bolt and chain sprocket
9:59 | Remove bolts from oil pump housing to oil pickup
10:23 | Remove bolts holding oil pump housing to engine
10:29 | Remove oil pump housing
10:43 | Take apart oil pump housing
10:58 | Remove stock OPG assembly
11:04 | Use engine assembly lube for new OPG installation
11:07 | Apply lube to new VMP OPGs and oil pump housing
11:22 | Reassemble oil pump housing
11:40 | Reinstall oil pump housing with new VMP oil pump gears
11:55 | Install new VMP crank sprocket on crankshaft
11:56 | Install the LH timing chain
13:50 | Install LH timing chain tensioner arm
13:55 | Compress the primary timing chain tensioner plunger
15:26 | Remove holding pin from tensioner
15:31 | Rotate crankshaft clockwise back to 5 o'clock position
15:47 | Rotate crankshaft clockwise until the keyway is at the 12 o'clock positon
16:12 | Install BH timing chain
16:56 | Install the RH timing chain tensioner arm
17:11 | Compress the primary timing chain tensioner plunger
19:11 | Remove holding pin from tensioner
19:20 | Place rag over oil pan opening
19:31 | Scrape old gasket material from timing cover surface
19:50 | Apply new RTV to timing cover and reinstall on engine
20:22 | Scrape out old RTV from crank pulley keyway
20:25 | Apply new RTV to keyway
20:37 | Install crank pulley
20:44 | Use longer install bolt to start pressing pulley onto crankshaft
21:07 | Remove install bolt and finish install with stock bolt
21:38 | Reinstall stretch belt
21:52 | Bolt sway bar into place
21:56 | Reinstall stock water pump
22:10 | Reinstall spark plugs
22:15 | Scrape all RTV from valve cover surface
22:21 | Apply new RTV
22:31 | Reinstall valve cover
23:08 | Reinstall ignition coils
24:10 | Plug in cam phaser electrical connections
24:20 | Plug in fuel injectors and ignition coils
25:19 | Reinstall dipstick
25:34 | Reinstall coil cover
25:40 | Reinstall alternator
26:42 | Reinstall tensioners and supercharger belt system
27:18 | Reinstall water pump pulley
27:43 | Reinstall supercharger pulley
28:31 | Reinstall thermostat housing and connect hoses
29:14 | Reinstall supercharger belt
30:41 | Reinstall fan assembly
31:08 | Reinstall factory coolant degas bottle and all hoses

Always ask for old parts. You can also buy a new oil pump, install gears and go that route for extra insurance.

Mustang Lifestyle rpm was never really the issue it was hitting rev limiter and odd crank harmonics from being supercharged the gt350 has the same oil pump gears and spins to 8250 rpm

Well, not worry about the oil pump, at least. 8,000rpm is a lot for the stock gt engine but the second gen in your S550 is probably more able to handle it with those basically boss 302 springs Ford upgraded to.

I don't know who did the install but they have done few of them before. I had to call in some help taking it apart was easy assembling the gears is not bad but getting it all back together is a little tricky actually its a lot tricky. Good video only one on line i have found could have used this about a year ago for sure. Good job on details thru out the vid.

You guys should do a 18+ F150 oil pump gear install / timing procedure. I tried doing it with the 18+ Mustang timing procedure and could've easily jacked it up, as I made a little PTV contact, (but thankfully ended up not hurting anything) a good video would be beneficial to a lot of people. This was a great video BTW.

On the left side at 5, I forgot to turn it 360 and then to 12. Instead I just went from 5 to 12. Now that the time is wrong, do I just do it from the beginning like Ford says OR do I have to take a different approach considering the incorrect timing?

Did you apply any gasket maker to the OPG housing?? Wasn't all red when putting gears in. Then all red when he put on the car?

That is some serious backbreaking work right there, it’s more than an all day job. Question, how do you get the second oil pump pick up bolt out, it looks like it’s buried down there where it’s almost impossible to get to

offset and deep offset box wrenches. Also a small pair of right angle plier and a small magnet help.

I put zip ties around the bolt. Worked like a charm. Got the idea off a forum.

As long as you're still utilizing head bolts, not studs, yes. It's going going to be fun. We much prefer having the vehicle on a lift and dropping the K member and engine as an assembly. The width of the engine makes it quite the chore in the engine bay. If you're engine has been modified and is running head studs, you will not be able to pull the heads in the bay. At least from our experience.

Just got myself a 2018 GT PP, bone stock with 46k miles. Seeing the used and new stock OPG's break like that makes me paranoid to even enjoy my car. Can't even survive a 6ft drop? Just ordered these before I even hit the dyno to get a baseline sheet before I start taking it to the tracking and modding.

I've got a 2014 stage 3 roush. And the sound of the oil pump gears hitting the ground and breaking gives me nightmares. I really need to do mine asap lol.

It should, all Roush did was apply badging, slap a SC on it and tune it. They didn't address oil pump gears, crank sprocket, guides, chains and the two piece steel DS. Did they at least upgrade the radiator to a 3 row?

Doesn’t matter when your oil pump is spinning it doesn’t fall on the ground just stop hitting the rev limiter it’s not going to stop your motor from blowing. The rods and pistons is your weakest link

The only thing that varies is timing procedure from generation to generation. The work itself is very similar. Refer to Ford/year specific timing procedure.

did anybody else catch the the different sound of the billet compared to the powdered metal gear when dropped? billet sounds alot denser than powered metal.

@VMPPerformance, Do you have an install video for the 18'+ Coyote Mustangs? Seems like the timing procedure may be different on the GEN 3 engines, and are also different on the F150's?

We do not. The procedure for timing the Coyote is one that is pretty intricate and our recommendation would be to either source the Ford service documents or use a resource like alldata.com for a subscription for your specific vehicle if you intend to complete this yourself. It does vary from generation to generation and from truck to Mustang.

Hello. Can you please describe in more detail exactly where the RTV goes onto the timing cover just before in re-installing it? Obviously, it’ll go in the same locations of where the old RTV had to be scraped off - but I want to make sure I apply it correctly so that none of the RTV gets into the engine. THANKS!

Is this necessary in your opinion for a 450whp 2014 5.0L gt that revs to 7600 with the 19 manifold. And obviously a killer tune from you guys..

There is really no way to tell when or if your stock OPG's will fail so if it is a concern you have it is a good idea to replace them to be safe.

We never did one...the K-member has to be dropped because the oil pan has to be pulled down slightly, due to the oil pickup tube being molded into the pan.

Followed video instructions and for some reason when I cranked the engine, I could hear my passenger side primary chain hitting the upper timing guide arm. Took it all apart and when I turn the crank manually, the tensioners fully depress and there is slack in the chain on both sides.. any help?

I’m about to install a 18 ported manifold on my 2016 at what rpm redline do you recommend oil pump gears ? Or do I only have to worry about it If im banging the rev limiter or boosted how they say . say my car is shifting about 7700 rpm? How harmful can this be ? How about running it in the dyno ?

If you are concerned about the oil pump gears you should replace them. There is not a way to say at what point or if they will break, but it never hurts to be safe.

VMPPerformance I ended up purchasing billet oil Pump gears and sprocket . Ima drive with a peace a mind now but since I’m doing a ported manifold and tune overall ima spend close to 3 grand including labor . But After that ima be ready for boost

Using the zip ties to put the AC belt back on. There's no adjustment for the AC compressor they use a "stretch" belt. Put the belt on the AC compressor pulley first then start the belt on the crank pulley and turn the crank pulley and the zip ties hold the belt to the pulley.

It says 6.2 hours in Ford repair manual just to do timing chains. Probably another hr to do oil pump. Don't see it costing more than $800 labor.

On the 18+ Coyotes you do have to drop the pan because the oil pickup tube is built into the plastic oil pan

So confused with the timing chain thing went does the engine what to be rotated to 5 o'clock to remove chain in the first place and how does the 720 degrees of rotation not interfere with rh bank of valves

It's probably timing when all the valves for that bank are closed so there's no interference with the motion of the pistons. If you have done timing belt job with an interference engine like a 4G63 you would understand. The only difference is there are two 4-bangers using the same crank and operating twice the number of valves. Gives you quite the appreciation of how these cars run.....lol.

I keep seeing a repeated oil pump gear failure on here. I have 2 questions. 1st question is say I have a f150 bone stock and gets drove like normal is this something that should be looked at? Question #2 will this give any kind of noise before it breaks or does it just leave you standing holding your legs waiting for the rape to begin?

Hey Dave. It really depends on the type of driving you do and the RPM range/use the engine sees. On most street cars that see only occasional spirited driving, we don't see many problems. If the vehicle is going to be up around the rev limited often or raced frequently, it's a good idea to consider OPG/CS. The biggest killer of OPGs is rev limiter strikes/two steps or any type of use that involves harsh/rapid changes in RPM.

What does that airlift coolant tool do? is it necessary doesnt the system bleed the air by itself?

By pulling a vacuum, it forces any air pockets deep within the system out. We use it because if any remaining air makes it to the intercooler pump, it will loose prime and subsequently stop running. It also does the same for the engine's cooling system, preventing you from having any overheating issues. It's a "better safe, than sorry" measure.

If nothing moves is it possible to mark the chains and phaser gears in their current location before removal be able to reinstall in reverse ? Just asking.

It's tempting but then you might need to move something then you get lost in your own art. Always line up the timing marks....it's the only "true" standard you have to verify everything is on time.

Biggest difference on 18+ is you need to drop the oil pan down to get the pump on and off, since the pickup tube is built into the plastic pan. Also verify the timing procedure for your year and model.

What about OPG's and CS on an '18+? Currently boosted to 720whp but only running a 650whp right now. Lots of people say it's not needed on the '18+. I have the gears right now, just have not installed them.

Over done. Would love to see an '18+ done. Few questions/concerns with the high pressure fuel pump, and timing

Meanwhile on my stock engine single turbo mkiv Supra is on the stock 24 year old oil pump, has had multiple 2step launches, rev limit bouncing. Car dyno 530 whp on 100 oct on stock 550. No I'm not only and import person, could actually care less about Toyota as a whole. Did an engine teardow back in 2013 after valve stem seals were shot. Checked the condition of everything else, oil pump buttery smooth so I didn't touch it. Cyclinder walls still had cross hatching at time of teardown 101k miles. Every manufacturer has its hits and misses but for Ford not to recall something as important as the oiling system is pretty ridiculous.

Can't deny supras are awesome but let me clarify something. The ford stock oil pump gears are actually pretty good, matter of fact there has been complete stock mustangs in the 800-900 whp without issues with stock opg. However, It's just a safety precaution some people like to take when boosting these motors and revving it high. Nobody wants to be the 1 out of 50 people to mess up engine because of a part that costs only $300 to upgrade to billet OPG.

it helps to hold/guide the A/C compressor belt on while you rotate the engine to walk the belt on.

Hi Saul, most of the work to get to the point of replacing the timing gears in Coyote engines is very similar. It'd be the timing procedure that varies from platform to platform. We'd recommend looking up the exact timing procedure for your specific vehicle's year and equipment to be absolutely sure of it.

Do you think your 93 and e85 tune would make more power and torque through out the whole rpm range honestly? I'm looking for Max low end torque hp extra till I get you guys is vmp gen3r kit

There's a lot of variables there in regards to making more or less power. We tune for as much power we can achieve while maintaining the safety and drivability of the vehicle.

Only difference I can think about is the fan - 1 bigger fan vs 2 smaller fans you might have different clearances in certain areas (which is key for my paxton)

With it in oil pan the camshaft drives it half the speed and they are less moving parts with it on the crank snout

If you plan going over 600 whp, it is recommended. Same for rear axles. Axles should be done at 500 crank hp/440 whp if you plan on using drs or slicks.
