When installing Mylar hinges I usually stick a pin in the middle of the hinge. Then push the hinge in up to the pin. This makes sure you have an equal amount of hinge in the control surface as well as the wing and automatically creates the gap you need between the two.

Where did you get the small round center marking tool? Been looking for years and can't find one small enough for RC aircraft use like that one you have.

The Carl Goldberg Model company used to market them but I haven't seen them for a lot of years.
