hi Carter i wanted to say thank you for your videos and things that you are explaining, im living in Ukraine and since i started boxing i wasnt be able to recognize what feels more naturally to me, so after a while i started noticing myself being more comfortable with square stance and this style of boxing, but in urkaine is more common that trainers teach only soviet style, and when i was trying to improve my peek a boo, i will often hear things like "change your stance, your stance is not right" etc. your videos is just pure gold and your students are very lucky to have a trainer like you with that much knowledge and experience. Thank you again, sorry for long comment, and for mistakes in text)

Nothing wrong with living in Ukraine Been there awhile It's all the activities going on Will have problems with don't feel bad about it In Israel same but different Same in that it's a fight Different because Israel don't have raw materials needs to have freedom to navigate and trade Mike Tyson grew up in New York poverty No Access to resources had to fight for them When he become successful lot of m.fers wanted a piece of it

fiiiiiirrrrrrrrrreeeeeee.......lil tidbit...little jewel......one thing that really helped my jab was when i was watching the documentary on that gym with Cus, Tyson, and Teddy....i didnt even realize it at first till you replayed the clip some videos back...i was confused on what to think about when throwing the jab...because i didnt want to feel like i was popping my shoulder out of socket...Teddy was training ManMan i think his name was...and it was SUPER subtle...but he told him, "when jabbing remember to raise your elbow to shoulder level.." or something like that... and i immmmeeeeeedddiiiiaaattteeellyyyy noticed the difference....the pop, flow of the punch, and smoothness was ALL there....sayin that to say for anybody reading this...when it comes to 7's and 2's (straight's) keep your mind on your elbow and raising it to the same height as your shoulder...and it ties RIGHT INTO what Carter said with "imagine punching the target on the back of your opponent's head as opposed to his chin" it puts you in the mindframe of punching THROUGH something as opposed to hitting the surface.. Dope video Carter 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

First of all, thank you for this excellent video. I've always found it admirable how often Kevin Rooney and Mike Tyson talked about the jab. The jab was one of the most important weapons for Tyson too. Now to my opinion: The how is less important than the when. The most important thing in boxing, like everywhere else, is to understand the system behind it. Boxing is extremely complex, which is why very few trainers and boxers manage to understand the system. Those who understand it can hold their own against anyone. I'll give a few very simple examples: fighting games. The person who knows how to do it can defeat someone who doesn't understand it very well, even with a character who has disadvantages. or: someone who can drive a car very well can still drive the lap faster than someone who has a faster car but doesn't understand how, when, where he has to brake or accelerate, for example. Mike Tyson was one of the boxers who understood the system. This wasn't just because of his trainers, but also because he knew almost everything about boxing. He studied countless fights and fighters and knew exactly when and where he had to do what.

21:25 '''And make it [through the pickaboo style] exciting for the people who are paying for the fight''. Well said. Sometimes it's forgotten that fight sports is a business - Meaning it has to be a spectator friendly sport, that's exciting for the people to watch, so they'll come back, & the sport grows. Hence Mike Tyson's pickaboo style was always the exciting to watch, as it was aggressive, effective & a knock out could happen at any moment.

Hey Carter! Personally I'm a super big fan of the Peekaboo Boxing Style and I've been studying it for a year or so, and now that I've found your channel it's super super helpful and helps me tweak the small things. Just a quick question - I'm a bigger dude, approx. 6'1½, and slipping quickly 3 times after a jab is quite difficult. Are there any exercises you recommend I do to improve this, or is it just about the repetition? And - do you believe I can use the peekaboo boxing style as a taller person? Thanks in advance, have a wonderful day!

make a slip bag bro, use like a tennis ball or get a speed bag from amazon or something and some rope and tie from the ceiling somehow and make sure the rope is long enough to the ball/bag is levelled at your head
@AlexTheRealGКүн бұрын
@@marshy8074Thanks for the recomendation! I actually do have a slip-bag, I should probably use it more often then. I usually didn't go outside shoulder with, but as he said here, we wanna go far enough to where we won't get punched by the right hand either.
@peekabooboxingacademyКүн бұрын
Glad the channel has been a help to you. You can use the Cus style absolutely! But you’ll be making more use of your range rather than being the one who needs to close the gap. The quickness of the slipping can be improved via the slip bag. My most recent video on slipping explains the exercise 🥊

@@peekabooboxingacademy Man, the fact that I'm talking with somebody who is in such close connections with the Peekaboo style is super fascinating to me haha. But thank you very much, Carter, I'll definitely keep practicing, and I'll check out your latest slipping video. 'Preciate it!
@marshy8074Күн бұрын
@@AlexTheRealG yeah bro definitely use it more, practice slipping, jabbing then slip, slipping then jab, jab and slip at the same time, practice bobbing and weaving too, remember like he said, step in as you jab too to generate that extra power and jab through the opponents head, not at his head, watch videos of tyson using the slip bag and how he jabs, his old sparring videos are also really interesting to watch and study

Thank you for the awesome content! Quick question, would this style be appropriate for someone my height? (6'0) I am not planning on going pro, amateur, or anything like that. I simply love boxing and want to do it as something I love. I know Patterson was 6'0, but to my very limited knowledge (I could be very wrong on this), it seems like his utilization of the style is very different from that of Tyson. Tyson is my second favorite fighter (behind Ali), and his utilization of the Cus Style "Peekaboo Style" has always intrigued me. He and Cus always spoke about using shorter height to an advantage to be able to get under the opponent and get leverage. So, would this style be appropriate for me? Thanks, and keep up these videos! They're awesome!

Fantastic stuff, Carter. From the videos I’ve watched so far, this channel easily has some of the best combat sports instruction on KZbin. If it’s not too much trouble, I have two questions about the Peekaboo system that you might be the best person to ask: 1) Can this style be adapted for people who are taller (i.e. over six feet)? 2) A nerdy question about the development of Peekaboo: Tyson has stated in interviews that, in developing his style, Cus drew inspiration from watching footage of an aggressive form of Japanese Karate. I’ve often wondered which Karate style it was and if the footage he watched can still be found. I’m curious if it was actually an art called Taikiken, and not actually Karate, as I know there is old video of Taikiken’s founder Kenichi Sawai sparring Kyokushin Karate’s founder, Mas Oyama. Taikiken has some interesting similarities with Peekaboo in its lateral footwork and aggressive forward movement, and it is derived from a Chinese style that was influenced by Western boxing. Apologies for the geeky question, but can you shine any light on this history? Thanks again for the great instruction. Cheers!
@peekabooboxingacademyКүн бұрын
Glad you’ve gotten value from the channel! As for your questions; 1 / Anybody can use the Cus style. The style is all about elusive aggression and being exciting. It’s not meant for any particular build. That being said, each fighter should fight to their strengths within the Cus style. If you’re a tall guy, you won’t be weaving in while closing the gap like Mike Tyson, you’ll be using your reach and angles. 2 / The guys who I learned from learned from Teddy mainly and talked to Cus a lot, but not as nearly as much as Teddy. Cus only came to the gym one day a week usually. So they probably don’t know. But I have heard that as well and I will personally ask Mike and probably do a video on it when I get the chance 🥊
