Journaling is truly magical. You get to know who you are and what you want. Writing a journal has been a life changer for me ❤️

As a young teenager I would journal every day. It was such a good practice. Now I'm 36 an bringing it back. I need the space and the clarity. I journal as part of my night routine. I have no set length or nothing like that. No rules. I just write what comes up sometimes it's a sentence and sometimes 2 pages.

I journal for the sake of my own sanity. Taking care of a parent and all the responsibilities that it includes have driven me to write things down. Getting stuff around the house done and working full time have driven to write. I'm glad I recommitted myself to daily journaling, something I had a hard time doing when younger and made excuses for. Now it is imperative that I do so. I wouldn't keep myself level if I didn't.

I love the just writing method, however I like to have one journal. I just rotate the types of journal entries with gratitude, free write, and dream journal. I used to try and separate but then I would end up only doing one or two types. I also don't like spiraling into negative thought so I make sure to include a gratitude journal entry at least once a week at a minimum. And the dream journal entries are just for the funny dreams that I have. I do love stream of conscious but I am not good at writing them because I tend to head towards the negative direction too often. Thanks for this video, I love journaling and your videos are great to inspire others to start and keep going!

I try to journal because I like that you can be creative within your journal, you can be yourself and for me the most important reason is that no one can judge you for what you write as it is your journal.

I have been journaling since a very young age. I found it hard to commit to journaling every day because I allow life to get in my way of bettering my life. Now for the past two and a half years, I have been journaling pretty much every day and I have been able to see many changes over the course of each journal entry. I am able to think clearly for one. But n top of that I am able to see that I am having fewer anger outbursts and also when I struggle with my PTSD I am no longer suicidal or trying to hide from everyone around me. Journaling, I believe has saved my life in many ways. Now that I journal every day. I am seeing so much personal growth.

Just committed to seven days of one page entries. Just finished my first entry after watching this video. I was amazed how fast I was able to let my thoughts just flow. It felt good :) Thanks for making this video.

I absolutely love journaling! I keep a regular journal with lined paper where I write my thoughts, ideas, goals and just about my life. Then I also create junk journals where I create with images, ephemera, laces, paints, etc., in order to get my creative sand artistic side out and to express how I feel!

Thank you for the tips. I am starting a bullet journal but I noticed I do it more like a practical journal. This has helped me a lot. I'm going through a hard time and it has giving me some perspective.

Writing in longhand uses the creative side of your brain, and the logical side of your brain simultaneously. This is the great benefit of writing longhand. This happens because we don't write letters, we draw them. This means we must use the portion of our brain which is responsible for drawing, which is the creative center. At the same time, the letters and words we choose to draw also need the logical side of the brain in order for those letters and words to make sense, to say whatever we want to say. Being able to automatically access the creative side of the brain is why so many great thinkers, writers, artists, and scientists still use longhand extensively. Being able to also use the logical side of the brain while filtering it through the creative center of the brain is why these people are most often the ones who accomplish great things in their respective fields. This does not happen with computers. You may think you're using the creative side of your brain when typing, and you may be, but odds are you aren't, and even if you do manage to use it, doing so is always a struggle. We know this because we can now watch the brain in action, observe which centers light up when the test subject performs some action. Oddly, and for reasons no one quite understands, a manual typewriter is almost as good at accessing the creative center of the brain as is writing in longhand. Why writing in longhand works so well is easy to understand. It is because we draw letters and words, and it's also because man evolved using sticks for all manner of things, so our brains and our hands and a stick grew up together. A pencil or pen is just another stick. But why a manual typewriter also works well while a computer keyboard doesn't work at all is anyone's guess.

It's a really great video! It was really helpful for me. I love journaling, because i have social anxiety and depression and it really helps fighting against my stupid and ireal thoughts. And can I ask a question? If i don't have time in the morning, can i do the morning pages on the afternoon? Does it work that way too?

Thank you! I'm glad it was helpful for you. Morning pages are intended to be the first thing you do when you wake up, so I'd recommend setting aside some extra time then.

I love to journal every single day because it helps me release my stress. I have been journaling ever since I was in middle school. Sometimes I have to sit and think for a while on what I want to journal about. Do you have any suggestions?

The same happens with me so I just allow myself to be patient until something comes up or just write even if it doesn’t make sense because that helps get my brain going. I have a video with some prompts as well!

Hi Chelsea, can you please give some advice on how to journal in a more positive way? I find that I start writing and before I know it my thoughts have followed a more and more negative spiral to a point I find I am dwelling on the negative things, worries, anxieties and uncomfortable feelings I was writing about long afterwards. Within a short space of time it puts me off journaling, because I don't want to just have a book of negative thoughts and feelings. I would like to use a healthier method where I can get these things out but also feel better about it after. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Love this video! You have such an interesting and soothing voice which is something I've never came across before... usually it comes out just boring... you're an awesome youtuber I just started and I have the same journal as your current one 😂🤣😂 I love writing. My goal is to write every evening. Btw... is it weird that when I journal I write parts in dutch (my mothertongue) and other parts in English ? I've noticed I switch to Dutch when I start ranting.. 😂😂😂👌 Greetings from Belgium

I don’t agree! I’ve journaled off and one for 45 year and have a neat row of 10+ journals the same size and hardback. I recorded thoughts about our 1st child’s possible names; our 1bd daughters adoption; my breast cancer; that oldest daughters wedding and so many things in between. I write for me and for my posterity. Oh I would love to have a great great grandmothers journal! I always had my kids write in it and now my grandkids! What a joy

I’ve never used them so I can’t really give a good answer. I’ve always been a pen-to-paper writer so I’m also not the best one to ask 😅 but at the end of the day, I’d say what ever will actually help you in your journaling journey, do that. It’s the value of our journaling that matters so find what works best for you and do that! ❤️
