The best thing about this video is that it is quick and clear. In 37 seconds it tells you everything you need to know to jump start a car, and when you're in a situation where you need to do that, you don't want any long-winded videos.

If your battery is under 2v the jumper will not detect a battery. The charge indicator will not blink. You can bypass this by holding the override button (red exclamation) until it starts to blink. This will also disable safety features on the jumper.

I just finishing boosting my car with this thing. It is a real time and money saver, and really helped in a jam where I had nobody else to help me. It did take a bit of fidgeting with the clamps to get a good connection, but I eventually got the Boost to detect the car battery. I would have had to dish out around $80 to the tow truck company to come and give me a boost or depend on my neighbour who was at work when this happened. Thank God I bought this thing. Definitely a good buy.

Had my old, cheap jumper box crap out on me multiple times leaving us stranded, went to CT for a jump one of the times and this is the one they had in the garage for shop and loaner use. Guy was like "it's not fully charged so I don't know if it's going to work", showed like 2/3rd battery but it started my truck on the first turn. I asked if they sold this unit in the store and they showed me where but it was it was like $200. Finally snagged it on sale and I don't have much else to say than I'm psyched to have it and very impressed with the quality! I am curious though, if you've used it much, 8 months later how is it holding up?

I have one of these Chargers in every single one of our cars and our kid's cars. Sometimes it starts their car, sometimes it starts their friends car, but every time it prevents someone from having to catch a ride home or leave their car somewhere. My vehicle has the larger version - because I drive a diesel F-250, and I have used it to jump everything from a car broken down in the parking lot to a lawn mower to a semi. They are absolutely worth the money. They also make pretty darn good gifts from Dads and uncles, especially if you buy the Noco carrying case made for them.

Mine is a piece of junk. I bought it as a back up to another brand. After about a year, I decided to give it a try (and yes, I kept it charged), the power wouldn't come on. The flashlight worked, and when it came on showed full battery charge. Absolutely will not jump a car nor charge phones/devices. Good thing I wasnt out on the road or the NOCO would have left me high and dry. The other charger (S type brand from COSTCO) was forty dollars cheaper and has yet to fail me over two years of service. 100 bucks down the drain.

You need something a lot bigger than a Noco GB 40 to start your VW Transporter T5 2.5TDI, An Diesel engine that size will kill your NOCO GB 40. Suggest you get a NOCO GB 70 or a NOCO GB 150. I have a GB40 and was pretty unsuccessful boosting a 2013 Honda CR-V with it. It actually worked 1/4 of the time (during summer, mind you). The remaining 3/4 of the time were during winter and ended-up using my other car to boost the CR-V. Last failed attempt, battery was at 11.37v and it was -1C outside. LED would cycle with the relay clicking. Reading the manual, it says that the battery may be defective. Right. I then tried it on my other functional car resulting in the same behaviour. WTH? That battery on that working car is also defective? I have made my mechanic do a battery test on the CR-V which the battery came out has “healthy”. Anyway, after seeing video where people are able to jump start a car without a battery attached, I am left to think that my GB40 is defective: I find the one-year warranty to be very thin. In my case, it worked the first time (within one year of having bought it). The second attempt using the GB40 was after the one-year warranty - SOL. Makes no sense to provide such a thin warranty since you are not going to use this thing every day. I bought this unit to have a certain “peace of mind” should I come to a non starting vehicle after a day of work. Very far cry from what is happening: On the last two attempts, I rolled my eyes saying “Ok, I’ll try that thing, maybe it’s going to work this time?”. I lost confidence in the product and find that the unit did not delivered as advertised. I was lucky that my four attempts where in my driveway with the other car available to boost.
@NOCO
@NOCO 3 жыл бұрын
We're sorry to hear you had trouble jump starting your vehicles. The clicking is part of the internal safety features of the Boost. The clicking happens because the internal relay is switching off and then back on quickly while the Booster checks to make sure a battery is still connected. This can happen if the battery in the vehicle is weak. You can try cranking the engine longer than expected to put an additional amp load on the Booster. If attempting to crank the engine longer does not resolve the issue, you can place the Boost in Manual Override to bypass the relay. To enter Manual Override in these situations, you need to REMOVE the Boost from the vehicle's battery, which will stop the percentage LEDs from chasing, and hold the "!" button for 3-5 seconds until the percentage LEDs start to chase again and the white Boost LED starts to flash. The Boost will not allow the Manual Override to be selected if it is already in the Boost mode with the percentage LEDs chasing, so you have to disconnect the Boost from your vehicle's battery first before putting it into Manual Override. Be cautious as it turns off the safety features of the Boost like spark protection, and reverse polarity protection. Connecting to a ground away from the battery is recommended in this scenario. If this is not helpful, we do have courtesy options available to assist with replacing NOCO products even if they are out of warranty. Please contact NOCO Support directly for assistance.
@patrickc1792
@patrickc1792 3 жыл бұрын
@@NOCO I have tried the manual override which worked (putting my overall experience at 2 successful boosts in 6 attempt). I was tempted to write about this but waited until I needed another boost (not to celebrate victory too soon). As expected, I needed another boost not so long ago and this time, the unit was unable to start the car (2/7 attempts). By the time I was to write this comment, I had to perform ANOTHER boost - which, obviously, failed again (2/8). I metered the result: -17C outside, the GB40 was delivering 11.73V to the battery (it was charged at 100%). I verified the voltage output while not connected to any battery and it is 12.35V. That was it! I then went and bought a brand-new battery (the previous was of 11/2017). I then connected the GB40 to it and tested its behaviour. The relay clicked just like on my old battery and on my GF’s car battery. I contacted Noco Customer service to learn that the fees outside warranty are 56,23$ USD to get a new unit. After viewing other videos, I decided to go against it as video as such shows exactly what I am experiencing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gH-bcmWkfrKIjaM. I am extremely deceived in the product which brings up again that warranty of one year - which is far from being sufficient and totally inadequate IMO.

@@patrickc1792 I'm having similar frustrations ... Constant relay clicking and sub 12.0v showing at battery on boost. However, I realized now I haven't been entering manual override mode as per NOCO's reply above. Didn't know you had to hold the override _before_ connecting to the battery. I'll see what happens next time. Not that I see why I'd need a manual override for a battery that tests at ~500 of 750 rated CCA, and was reading 11.5v on my dash. It's weak, sure, but not dead. Just tired from trying to crank a finicky rotary engine over with fueling problems. I figured 1000a of portable power would sort me out for when I need to crank for extended intervals. Nope. Relay noise and frustration.

I'm very sorry that you're having issues with your GB40. Did you attempt the jump start using the Manual Override feature as well? The Boost units are designed to detect a battery first and then apply the appropriate charge for jump starting. If the vehicle battery is below 2V, the Boost will not be able to detect it and thus will not apply voltage to the clamps. This is part of the built in safety features of the Boost. You can force the jump start current to the clamps by using Manual Override. Use Manual Override cautiously as it also turns off the reverse polarity protection and spark protection. You can enter Manual Override by pressing the red "!" button for three to five seconds. If you did attempt this and were still unable to start your vehicle, please contact our support team for assistance. You can reach them by email at support@no.co (NOT ."com") they also have a Live Chat option on our website here: no.co/support

Thought NOCO wasn't good but it turned out GB40 is not enough for my tuned F30 although they said that it would work up to 4.0 litters diesel and my car is 2.0 diesel. I gave it another try and bought NOCO GBX155, just on that day my car accidentally got a completely drained battery, jumped start it with GBX155 and succeeded!

You connect the device and turn it on, turn on the car (engine works), then turn off the device and remove the black clamp then the red clamp, close your hood. Let the car run idle for 10 minutes (turn off the lights first), and then drive the car for about 20 min, this will replenish the battery. If you just jump start and then turn off the car, you accomplished absolutely nothing and will have to jump start it again.

We're sorry to hear you had trouble jump starting your vehicle. Did you attempt the jump start using Manual Override? Sometimes with a weak or low battery, the Boost can have a hard time ""seeing"" the battery and will cut power to the clamps intermittently as it ""loses sight"" of the battery. You can try cranking the engine longer than expected to put an additional amp load on the Booster. If attempting to crank the engine longer does not resolve the issue, you can place the Boost in Manual Override to ensure you're getting the full power necessary for the jump. To enter Manual Override in these situations, you need to REMOVE the Boost from the vehicle's battery, which will stop the percentage LEDs from chasing, and hold the ""!"" button for 3-5 seconds until the percentage LEDs start to chase again and the white Boost LED starts to flash. If you're still having trouble, please contact NOCO Support directly for assistance.

@@NOCO I think it works better when the booster is warm(not left in a sub zero car) because it did start it at that point. I'll try the manual override next time regular boost doesn't work. I'm back to being a fan, thanks!
