I talked to the chemist at our local water authority to find out that they only use chlorine. Our water source is Lake Ontario. The tap water is fairly hard, 300ppm, 80ppm buffer, and 7.2 pH. I purchased five shrimp from you one year ago. Now I have at least 30 to 50 shrimp. My aquarium is almost five years old. Thanks for the great shrimp and products.

Thanks for the awesome video. I don’t use TDS . I use gh and kh test . I didn’t even know that water treatment plants used different chemicals to treat the water that’s scary 😱. Sounds like I should save up and buy a ro water system . I have a local fish store that sells ro water but it’s a pain to haul around the water .

SoCal water consistently provides a slow death for inverts, fish, and certain plants. There's exceptions as it varies with each neighborhood, but there's no question it kills.

I'm trying to teach myself "shrimp" and plants, and I simply cannot grasp all the different test numbers, water makeup, etc. It goes RIGHT over my head :-( I just know things WERE doing well in my tanks, then stuff started to die off, no matter what I did. :-(

Once a month our water smells very chemically. I think that's when they're treating it. I'm sure it would be very bad for any tank fish during this time. It only lasts for a few days but I wouldn't put it in a tank during that time.

for me tap water is not an issue for my shrimps, its more on plant fertilizers especially iron supplements.. a few passed because i was not aware

For me the TDS isn't that important. It's a baseline. What I care about is the amount of change. I don't care if my tap water is typically 150 or 200 ppm. What I'm interested in is if the TDS is suddenly 50 ppm more than it typically is.

Buy your fish etc from a local source where the water is the same as what you have at home then stop chasing test numbers and just enjoy the hobby
