In Singapore LFS sell $1 per fish
@cathylynn1382 Жыл бұрын
When I first got my Rummy-Nose Tetras, the LFS netted them and they were scared and he chased them unmercifully. I felt sorry for them and promised to give them a happy home with no more netting and moving them. During quarantine, 1 died but the others have remained healthy for almost 2 years now. I love these fish.

About a month ago I bought a school of 30 wild caught here in Colombia. Just like you said they were totally silver in the store, I was a bit hesitant but did it anyways. Got the home and dropped them in quarantined they colored up immediately. Month later , I love these guys they school all the time and they are veracious eaters. Awesome addition to my wild caught S.American tank. BTW I think here in Medellin they were about $1 USD a piece

Look out for their tail fins too. The black markings will fade when they are stressed. That's when I saw a lot of the playing dead behavior you mentioned. I never knew it was a normal behavior, I thought something was really REALLY wrong at that time, but I have some in my main tank for almost 2 years now.

I noticed that when I brought some home from the store. They were so vibrant but inside the plastic bag they looked almost completely silver. Now swimming around in their little quarantine tank, they have perked back up and are nice and colorful again.

Have 6 mixed in with ember tetras. Interesting point about buying the full group you want, all at once, to avoid the possibility of introducing illness multiple times. I find myself wanting to get the minimum group then adding to them periodically because who doesn’t enjoy another trip to the lfs store. I can satisfy the “I really wanna get some fish urge” by slowly adding to the school. Cool video and great tips as usual.

I have 10 of these guys in my 20 gallon planted. Easily one of my favorite tetras. They do much better in a well established tank, at least 6 months running. When I first put them in they were really stressed and colorless, then bam! 2 days later, their faces had colored up. After watching this video, I feel like loading some brine shrimp eggs for hatching today so I can spoil my red nose bois tommorow.

This video gives me a little encouragement to try these fish. I fell in love with them but all the blogs said they were intermediate and I'm only a year into the hobby so still very new. I am upgrading to a 30 gallon tank and was thinking of adding them with my cherry barbs. If not, I was willing to look at diamond tetras. Our store keeps the diamonds and rummies together and they're both adorable.

You are absolutely right about their colours! I got home from Vivarium yesterday where I bought two bags of tetras from a big breeder. His stand was absolutely swamped with customers and I asked for 2 bags of silver tips, but I think in the rustle one bag got mixed up so I got 7 silver tips and 7 rummynoses. And I reckon the fish were quite stressed but I got them into the quarantine tank once I got home. Now is the next day and their heads are nicely red!🙂And they're schooling with the silver tips!😊

Rummy nose tetras’ are one of my favorite fish. Unfortunately I had a bad experience at my LFS, there was ick in their tank and I didn’t notice it and ended up bringing it to my main display tank. I would highly recommend the quarantine trio and temp around 80. I definitely plan on having them in the future.

Hi Cory, greetings from Germany! Rummynose tetras are fantastic fish, not only why they are schooling. And I agree, you should keep at least 10 of them. These fish only prefer cristal clear water and your aquarium must be matured and perfectly cycled. If the water is cristal clear, no problem occur. I keep them together with blue-red Colombian tetras.

They all got Ich but thankfully I dosed trio of meds (Probably couldve just done Ich-x but better safe than sorry). Anyway they all made it and were cured! They quickly became one of my favorite fish its truly amazing how they school and they are beautiful.

Have you seen the diamond back rummy nose? Got a 50 gallon aquarium planned and have been considering a big school of 40 - 50 rummy nose. They definitely prefer ph in the low 7's. My water was high 7s in my community tank, when i rescaped and added aqua soil and more wood the ph dropped to low 7s and the colour of the rummy nose really improved, they also gained wait and grew in size.

New to the hobby and got my 1st 4 fish...they are red eye tetras, but yesterday all the red was very pale..called the store and she said they probably arent going to make it. ...did a very small water change as she suggested but she said thats all i could do but she said dont feed them for a day or so. The red seems to be coming back and i was so excited but i saw a white dot behind their dorsal fins right before the tail...i frantically ordered 3 bottles of ick treatment and paid to have it overnighted to get here tomorrow...then looked up pictures of adult red eyes and noticed they all seemed to have that small white spot in the same place...i think my ignorance may have cost me a large overnight fee....oh i dont drive so i couldnt get to the store today. Other than that I love the fish and even though these werent on my list of what i wanted, i kept coming back to look at them before i decided on what to get...i think theyre so cute

Hello, I want to thank you for all the advice to make my life easier and my fish's lives better; I was using a fishbowl when I first got given my fish because I wasn't expecting them and it's all I had (they were taken out of the local pond because they are an 'invasive species' (I *still* don't know what they are). It soon got upgraded to a 3 gallon tank but they grew so after an embarrassingly long time I got a 10 gallon. I can't go bigger as I have *very* limited space but I will upgrade again as soon as possible. Thank you!

i know the fish at my local petsmart are usually brought in pretty young and always stressed out, not because of the care but mostly because of people walking up to their tanks all day shoving their hands and face against the glass and with the turn around these fish might have less then 48 hours to adjust to the tank at the store while there are bright lights and intrusive people, some petstores are just not a good environment for fish

It is a 15 g tank and somehow I notice that these tetras does NOT swing all around...they have this trend to stay at the bottom of the tank + dont explore all the plants nor the hidden spots. Should I be concerned ? Water parameters are in line and water temp stable. Any advice from you or your followers would be appreciated! Greetings from Toronto! Thanks

I love the way they school, but mine are so dumb tho. I lost 7 of them last week, they were in a temporary tank while I was re-scaping/-cycling their own tank. They squeeze themselves into tight spaces (between a wall and filter floss) and then they die because they got stuck.
