@Russell - 8:31 - Of all the bio-mechanical moves that made the most impact on my golf swing, this was and still is it! I originally learned about this exact movement from one of your older videos. You are the only professional teacher to this day that I have ever seen demonstrate it. A few others have tried, but inevitably end up teaching a squat instead. It was from your original teaching that I took a close look at Sammy Snead's pelvis/hip action. I wanted to see what he was doing, and I finally understood that Sammy was not squatting like many think he did, but instead he exaggerated the exact movement you teach. It took me a long time (months) to even move my lead hip separate from the trial. Then I worked on the drop-in move to get the weight to the lead side during the backswing. Now I time the Sammy hip move with "Float Loading" my wrist set for additional lag. I went from carrying 210 drives to about 240. I know there's another 20 to 30 yards still to come in my distance because the Sammy hip and "Float Loading" aren't sequenced nor synchronized fully yet. I am thoroughly convinced that this is the most misunderstood movement in golf. I went from pulling the lead hip back and thrusting the trail hip forward to pulling the lead hip back to match the trail hip. Those are 2 very different movements and difficult to learn. I literally had to do it very slowly over and over, would get tired and sore and then come back to it a few days later. Eventually it felt strange to NOT do it. Now I only rotate the hips AFTER this initial move, because all that space has become available and the arms have opportunity to get out in front of the trail hip instead of stuck. The lag increased significantly.

Great lesson..8 years I have been bumping the hips forward while rotating and it sort of works most time...but this knee movement to start dnswng is eccellent. Ty!

Thank you, thank you. I was a 3 or better until COVID hit last year and when I started up this year 2021 my swing was missing something, especially off the tee with my driver. Although my short game is quite good and saved me around the greens I was now shooting in the mid to high 70’s. My tee ball sucked. I’ve had hundreds and hundreds of lessons over the years but couldn’t figure out what was causing me to top the ball, blocks way right or hooks way left. Yesterday I decided that maybe I needed a new driver so I had a club fitting but the results were the same. I had subscribed to your channel sometime back, so desperately I started searching for an answer. You pointed out that most golfers do NOT maintain the tilt angle through the swing. So today I went out to play, it’s 109 degrees in Chandler, AZ, and focused on just that aspect of my swing. OMG what a revelation. I hit my driver beautifully, never missed a fairway and same for my irons. Shot three over but missed too many birdie putts. Love your instructional videos and highly commend your detailed approach into the many elements of the golf swing. Thanks again. I’m pumped to play this week with my buds. 👍 irons. I shot 3 over

Your videos are amazing! I've struggled a long time with the down swing, even after some help from the local PGA trainer. Then I saw your videos, and it's as if you're reading my mind, and made the videos for me. I've learned a lot, and I think I've had breakthroughs. Not consistent yet, but I have seen improvements both in direction and distance. I feel super confident up to the five iron. Thank you so much for your hard work making these videos!

Very helpful! I’d already figured out the move I needed to make and was vaguely aware of the need for separate action by the lower and upper portions of the body, but the concept was still very vague. Russell has helped me gain “conscious competence “with this video. His lessons are a bit like building things with legos. He gives you a block or two at a time and shows you where it fits. Thanks!

Huge fan of the channel, Russel! I started playing last year and dropped my hcp to 21 from shooting in 120s. Last few rounds I have played I shot high 70s (on simulator), all because of following your advice. I have implemented most of the stuff you talked abut on Feb 24 video with separation being the last one and that has worked wonders for my game. Huge thank you to you, my game has changed dramatically for the better. THANK YOU!!

Brilliant, brilliant video. I’ve been working all winter on sequencing and separation with one of those SKLZ heavy ball clubs. Is it your view that by starting your downswing from the ground up BEFORE you reach the top of your backswing that the right sort of separation happens almost automatically? Or at least gives you a much better chance? It feels to me like I can my back to the target a little bit longer?

Hi Russel, great video for checking head movement due background sign. I could not help but notice you lose a lot of height in your backswing. I also feel that to get a full hip and shoulder turn I have to lose height. Presumably this is not a problem?

It just dawned on me but you never not even once expressly say it but very definitely imply it. This is a hard way to learn what you are teaching or trying to impart. Why don't you just come out and say the key to keeping your head back to bomb the driver is SEPARATION of lower body from upper body and then go on to say how that works as you do only too well?. Easy to remember the point of the lesson that way..

Is it me or does he talk about everything except keeping your head back?
@pohoresky
@pohoresky 3 жыл бұрын
Yes there is some truth to what you say but there is a reason for that and that is keeping the head back is not a deliberate move on its own but a result of two other moves performed simultaneously (1) separation of lower body from upper body ( i.e. getting center of left butt cheek over left ankle line) and (2) doing a right side crunch . This will keep your head back without having to think about it or doing anything else. Hope this helps.
