Tanya doesn't dispute that Being X is real, her dispute is with Being X's claim to godhood, as opposed to some demon or some other higher level being who isn't god, but is just pretending to be him. Those are two very different things. She knows that he exists, she just disagrees with his self-proclaimed title, because she believes that there is no god, for if there were one, then the world would have no problems.
@chimera9818 Жыл бұрын
In the LN and manga she has even better claim because being x isn’t this beyond reality and we see only one of it but it is clear he is one of few deities that from all seem to be equal in power
@SuperboyLilly Жыл бұрын
Why do people who don't believe in any god use the argument that the world would be a better place if they were real?
@johns6014 Жыл бұрын
@@SuperboyLilly I can't recall her exact argument, but I'm pretty sure that it was along the lines of "If he really was God, then was a poor manager who let things get out of control, but still stopped to demand her love and respect, and that was unbecoming, to say the least, of any being who would call themselves God". She was meritocratic to the core like that. Of course, the more he pestered her for her love and respect, and the more he forced her to pray to him, the more she hated him. I don't know why people use that argument in general, though. For God to step in and force action would be for God to impugne on free agency, and our ability to make our own choices. That leads into a fairly nuanced and emotionally and religiously charged debate, though.
@-hello6177 Жыл бұрын
If a god has expectations of good, then the world should be good. Because by principle, as creations of the god, the natural instincts one would have would already have been set to be executed in such way by their choice, our ease to learn, our desire for food, our susceptibility to lust, free agency is purely seem as a fixed quantifiable due to the fact we already have been created in the way we currently exist, there is no intrisic necessity for the divine to have created us the way we have. All of such, flaws gods punish us for, dependencies we cannot struggle against, and most of all, innate necessities for our survival, all of them would be by design, there's very little nuance, humans objectively do not have a choice in many things, of which several would be the cause of how such a god would've created us, and not only us, but the world as a whole, by mere act of existing and designing us with expectations, we no longer have free will in the fundamental sense of the world, then why, we who have already lost access to such, would still be reprimanded for not using it properly when we would be designed with things completely opposite to such? Why would we be designed in a way where following the teaches of god is akin to going against the most fundamental parts of human nature? The sins in countless religions can be directly tied to necessary parts of the human brain, things that anyone with a healthy brain could never possibly refuse to feel, think or act on, as well as relatives without any rhyme or reason. Could such not have been designed to be less important, could the world we've been put into be less punishing, and allow for survival without a significant reliance on these traits? If Free Will cannot exist with God, then at the very least God should be thorough with it's design.
@SuperboyLilly Жыл бұрын
@-hello6177 1. Good has no meaning without evil. 2. The Judeau-Christian god (I honestly don't know about the other deities) wants us to serve him of our own free will. 3. There's no point in having an afterlife if there already is a heaven on Earth.

Personally the whole concept of belief allowing the gods to exist is my favorite. It gives the power of the gods to the people. We collectively decide what gods are powerful & what they represent, & its through our belief & devotion that they manifest. Probably the most narratively interesting, as well as the most grounded take on what gods are. To give a highly recognizable example. In Skyrim, this is why the Thalmor are trying to kill of Talos worshippers. Because the idea a human could become a god is blasphemous to them. No more worshippers, means no more Talos. The very depictions & names will change of god-like beings depending on the culture also. Sheogorath, demonic god of madness, will appear as the Skooma Cat to a Khajiit of Elsweyr. As that is how they recognize & worship the entity, thus that is how he is formed to them. Its such a simple concept that you can do so much with. Love it.

... this taught me a lot, despite already knowing so much about Gods, religions, and many different mythologies, but taught me 1 thing especially... at the end of it all do we ourselves then become the Gods? Both figuratively, and literally, someday, soon? Far away? Will we reach a point to which there is no turning back and we just halt our evolutionary and adapting progress because there is nowhere left for us to go? We already have weapons of mass destruction in nuclear warfare, will we reach a point of being capable of creating life or maintaining it on the same level?

Fun fact: in order to kill a God in D&D, first you have to strip them of believers, and THEN do the physical killing. Of course, this same franchise also allows dead gods to be revived by new believers doing a very specific ritual in a large enough group and mortals can even ascend to godhood if they gain enough of their own. In fact there are entire series of lore videos about how all that works you could check out. I recommend Mr Rhexx for that since he goes into details that not only what the core rulebooks mention, but also what it doesn't that was either in older editions or in material like expansions, novels etc. AJ Pickett is another one I'd recommend, though after the latest fuckery at the time by WotC he decided he was done talking about D&D as a brand. But his video on Bahamut is absolutely worth a look regardless.

I still find the way that fgo tackled the concept in regard to its gods in lostbelts as an interesting way to go about it; while it’s still the whole stab it till it dies concept, the gun they use effectively calculates the lifespan of a god, and using that concept it turns the god mortal and thus killable. It removes trivialities of how the god is unkillable whilst also having certain constraints making it unusable until the climax. It’s also a bit more complicated than as I’ve explained, but the fate series has a tendency to go weird when it tackles abstract concepts. But as a method to kill a god, it bypasses the essence that makes them a god in the first place.

Oh yeah the Black barrel but it's a replica the real one is actually just a gun
@mordred1333 Жыл бұрын
Fate Grand Orders Morgan La Fay was killed off by the plot in lostbelt 6 and Zeus in lostbelt 5 was killed by chance- also the weapon used to kill gods called the black barrel uses a massive amount of mana in the form a a command spell and as shown in lostbelt 6 if you don’t have enough mana or a command spell it uses your life force as energy and I think that the fate universe did a great job in depicting a way to kill gods without stripping them of their power in the story.

Hollow Knight has two main examples of Death of a God. Spoilers ahead. The one that drives the conflict concerns the game’s bbeg. The Radiance. Long ago she created the moth tribe, who worshipped her until the Pale King arrived. Then they forgot all about the Radiance to worship him. According to lore and dialogue this almost completely deleted the Radiance from existence. She only hung on because a few slivers of memory about her remained. And then people began remembering her and worshiping her. Then she regained her power and came back from the edge of oblivion with a vengeance.

Hey man, can't wait when Brandon Sanderson's cosmere gets a ton of screen adaptations and you discuss those gods and OP characters. Idk, maybe in another 5-10 years?... Here's hoping we all still be there. Although It seems from some info here and there that Misborn era 1 trilogy will probably be the first book series to get that, and that's the one I'd be most interested to hear your thoughts on. Although there are a bunch of other examples of those throughout his books, both cosmere and non-cosmere, Mistborn kinda dealt the most with details of gods dieing and being created (or born or established, whatever). To be honest I'd love you to read the whole Mistborn series and talk about it but it is a pretty big one and so putting that kind of pressure on anyone is just unfair. I loved it though and recently started like third reread of the series, every time I couldn't stop myself from binge reading, even though it's one of the earlier works and it shows a tiny bit, the books are a lot of fun. Of course, I'm biased lol. Anyway, thanks for the video, didn't check Tale Foundry in a while, when How to Kill a God was released it was a blast for me and getting reminded of it feels good. Have a good one!)

I was expecting more of a How-To quide on the classic piece of writing advice, "Kill your gods," but this was interesting too. That advice refers to your Madaras, but more than that it refers to your Sarutobis and your Jiriyas, who have to leave the story so that the protagonist has no "gods" to call on to save him. He must outgrow his mentors and win his own battles. Another way to "kill" ones gods is to give them other tasks which must be performed separately. For example, Gandalf and Aragorn don't have to be dead during The Return of the King, for Frodo, Sam and Gollum to face their ultimate trial without their direct support. Instead, they have a different sort of challenge, which they must meet with their own kind of strength, while the protagonist gets to show that he is the best person for his particular task. Though, Gandalf is literally a minor deity, and he was dead for most of The Two Towers, which is a much more literal way to solve the same problem.
