How to Kill Aphids on Floating Plants in an Aquarium [Safe for Fish / Other Livestock]

My Odessa barbs have figured out (I showed them) how to pull the plants underwater by the roots and eat them off the plants. The other fish also join in eating them. Free food!

I had aphids and didn’t realize that what it was until watching this video Ugh. I pitched all the plants - thankfully they didn’t spread. Now I know what to do! Awesome!!!

I had a smaller scale aphid problem on the salvinia in my 10 gallon. I didn't have CO2, but I went at those aphids mercilessly with some eyebrow tweezers. The ones with a flat edge at the end are great for this. I don't know if I got them all in 5 minutes but I must have crushed a hundred. For those of us without CO2 tanks, maybe one possible solution would be mixing baking soda and vinegar in a bag...?

In the past I would do one of the following. 1. Add a dozen Archer fish. Very effective 2. Add 2-3 Rainbow Trout. Downside to this is they also eat all my Guppies and Shrimp. 3. Add 2-3 Steelhead Trout. Same downside however. 4. Add a flock of Starlings. Somewhat impractable for indoors. 5. Make sure you don't wear a blue shirt when trying any of these. Red shirts seem to work better. 6. Steal Marcus from Rob. If you smiled give this a thumbs up!

We all produce CO2 so how is it dangerous? We use it in grow rooms, And in our aquariums. it's only dangerous if there is more CO2 than oxygen. If you keep them sealed up, you will need to keep supplying CO2 or the plants will die.

Just this morning I found some really tiny 6-legged bugs on a java fern leaf at the surface. Assuming they are aphids, are they safe to feed to a betta? The aphids are in my shrimp tank, but if a betta can safely eat them, I will gladly use them as a renewable source of food for my betta :)

hey Rob , couple things , first when I started watching you , you were a skinny kid ...now you got some big on you ! working out ? or just eaten good ? second the aphids in Texas will fly up your nose and lay eggs on your brain, and they get huge ! down here we use trained attack jackalopes to combat them ! stay safe HAPPY NEW YEAR !

you can buy like little cups full of ladybugs at gardening shops/online and release them. they'll handle all the aphids

off topic issue.. KH & GH is Greek to me, when it comes to math or numbers my brain shuts down. I know what KH & GH stands for, all these other letters I assume has to do with measurements are way over my head. I do extensive online research, or try too but it is nearly impossible for me to comprehend. when it comes to this, I am a complete idiot. I am on community HOA government forced chemical well water in north Florida, Florida water co claims no chloramines are used only chlorine. testing my tap water with the API fresh water master test kit shows light green on the ammonia and my water has orange nitrate on the test. I have mostly larger tanks 55 gallon up to 125 gallon tanks, my smallest used tanks are 30's, I usually do my proper water changes double and triple dosing prime. yet my tanks after 3 - 7 days are showing low ammonia and very high nitrates. my tanks are cycled, not overly stocked and been set up 4+ years. I rarely lose fish but want better quality and want to get into shrimp and fish that would not survive my water conditions. I have ordered a 4 stage RODI system and some add on filter upgrades, I have seachem replenish that does nothing for live plants and other parameters, I will be ordering salty shrimp GH KH + but I need to learn to understand what I am doing.... can you point out any videos that may help or make a video for complete morons such as myself? thank you.
