How can I tell the difference between fungus or burnout from the drought?
@samuelasamoah69064 жыл бұрын
You need a soil probe, this device will tell you about your soil water saturation level. After pulling a core from the ground, you have to detect if your soil is/has suffered a history of drought. This will help you the determination. If your soil has enough water then chances are it's fungus but if not it's drought stress.

Saw army worms two days ago...they are super early this year in San Antonio. Was planning to treat this weekend. To late... My yard is destroyed. I treated in the spring with Caravan G and thought I was covered. We only get to water twice of week because of restrictions but we had a lot of rain. couldn't figure out why I was getting dead areas. Used Humichar DG...PGF balanced and the yard was looking great in spring. Take my advice....as soon as you see them, treat immediately. They took care of my lawn in a day!

Hey Doc, do you worry about the dog eating the dead worms being that they are poisoned? I have a couple of dachshunds that hunt these suckers too.
@HowTowithDoc5 жыл бұрын
Worried about that as well... but the amount they would be exposed to is VERY small. Mine has no issues. It's kind of like when dogs eat roach bait traps. The AMOUNT of poison is not enough to truly hurt them. That comes from experience and follow up with the vet and poison control.

Armyworms are no joke! Wish I had this video last fall when I found mine by accident? I've noticed they have a red like larvae stage too! Looks just like the bud on Magnolia tree! Lol! But seriously I took the hard route! Tilled almost my whole yard by hand. And it's taken until just this past week to get rid of them, so I thought? I just noticed yesterday a few moths flying around my yard! Omg! Couple questions? 1. How do I, being a newcomer, measure the square footage of my front and back yards? I know sounds dumb, but NEWCOMER! 2. Have you seen the larvae? I picked one up thinking it was a bulb or a red sorta seed pod and it started moving! I threw my phone and everything else I was holding! 3. I have a rescued kitten and don't want to hurt him in any way! How do I go about letting him out to use the bathroom without harming him? Any suggestions? Thank you for sharing this video! I've heard that armyworms can take out huge corn fields in a matter of days? Thanks again!

Hmmmm.... A moth lays eggs.... it takes 20 - 25 days for those to hatch. Then they must grow and feed. So I think you should have seen green up after 30 days of install. Why was it not sprayed asap? You would have seen them and killed them if done? I would do a soil test for sure. Looks like something else is going on.

@@HowTowithDoc Thanks for the reply. I repeated your soap test on 3 patches and not more than one worm per test (same 2-sq-ft 5-gal soapy water) emerged. Could this be because most have turned into moths and left at this point? How do I have my soil tested? Who can I take it to? Thanks!!

immediately spray with hose end spray from lowes or HD. If it was army worms, they have moved on. Soil test... just google your local extension office.
