it would make more sense if this video showed how to begin brioche in the round. Hiw nmany to cast on? Even or odd number?
@BrooklynTweed_Official3 жыл бұрын
Hi Peggy! Showing brioche in video is always a bit tricky since it doesn't look like much of anything until you get a couple of inches of fabric completed. You might like to have a look at our Single Color Flat Brioche video to see us casting on and working brioche setup: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6Otf2ljbq2GiK8 For working brioche in the round, you'll generally be casting on an even number of stitches. Happy knitting!
@Mario-xr3jo2 жыл бұрын
Always even number in the round. Just a simple and logical example: Your rounds need to start with a different stitch from the last stitch the previous round. And with an odd number, your last stitch of the cast-on is always the same as the first one (A-B-A, A-B-A-B-A, B-A-B-A-B and so on). And if you connect one "A" end with the other "A" end of your work, this pattern won't work. They need to be different. Like a knit and purl stitches next to each other. Hope that helps.
@coley3986 Жыл бұрын
@@BrooklynTweed_Official I wish you would have mentioned that the setup row was the same as flat, only with an even number of stitches. I was watching a tutorial and realized it wasn't going to be the same in the round and tinked back my entire setup row, only to realize after reading this reply it was fine 😠

Please show from the casting on stitches , do we have to cast on less stitches than usual?
@BrooklynTweed_OfficialАй бұрын
Hello! Since the brioche knit (BRK) and brioche purl (BRP) stitches incorporate the yarn overs from the previous row, you end up with the same number of stitches that you cast on.

Thank you for this!!! I want to knit a brioche hat for myself but haven’t found a good beginner pattern yet. I’ve gotten suggestions from people but they all say they had a terrible time with the crown decreases so I’m still looking for a pattern I can learn brioche with. I’m going to look through your patterns. I appreciate you putting this out here and making it so clear and easy to see. 😊

Thank you for your help, I downloaded a knitting pattern for a beret but had never heard of a Brioche stitch, the pattern did not tell me what to do at end and start of a new row. I followed your method but had to refer to it for every row my PC has been on your blog for two days, I was putting my struggles down to being in my seventies but reading other reviews on youtube I am not alone. When I put down my knitting I struggled to recognise where I was and when it came to the crown decrease, the pattern told me to decrease 10 stitches on every fourth row which was not helpful, I was totally lost. I must have ripped out more rows than I knitted, when I dropped a stitch I did not have a clue how to rectify my mistake. I finished the beret tonight the main body is in brioche but used another way to do the crown - all knit divided into six decreasing in a twist on every row which looks good. I like the look and feel of the brioche stitch and with your help I might try this in the future but my patience is exhausted and glad to be finished the project. Thank you again from Bonnie Scotland

It looks like there's a 'right' and a 'wrong' side... The two look a little different, is that so? Or just a trick of the eye
@BrooklynTweed_Official Жыл бұрын
Good eye! Yes, the right side looks like columns of knit stitches, the wrong side looks more like 1x1 ribbing with alternating columns of knits & purls.

How many italian tubular cast ons would I use for a brioche stitch hat?
@BrooklynTweed_Official4 жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for your question! The number of stitches to cast on will depend on the pattern you're using as well as the yarn and stitch gauge.

i am confused ... my brioche pattern has p1 where you are k1... the pattern is p1 sl1yo for row 1 and row 2 is p1 brk1... how would i sl1yo without it then becoming a brk1? is this possible
@BrooklynTweed_Official3 жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for your question! Some patterns do start with a purl stitch rather than a knit stitch - this tutorial simply shows one variation. I encourage you to trust the pattern you're working!

Do you cast on an even or an odd number of stitches?
@BrooklynTweed_Official4 жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for your question! The number of stitches will depend on the pattern you're working, but typically with a stitch pattern using a multiple of 2 like brioche rib, you will need an even number of stitches.
