There is no particular set up. Just cast on (we do a long tail cast on). On the first row: k1 and sl1 with yarn over. Turn work and from there on, do as on this video.

So did I, this past month, I've been trying all the new ways to hold the yarn. This is my favorite. I'm working on my first pair of socks, two at a time cuff down. when I tried two at a time toe up there were too many holes and I couldn't stand looking at them, so I started another going cuff down. I'll try it again after a while.

My brother is 20 years older than I, and he married a German girl, when he was stationed in Germany, and when he brought her to the US, she knew about 6 English words. I was 5 years old, and for some reason she thought that I was my brother’s daughter; not sister. She wanted to ‘bond’ with me, so she sat for hours showing me how to knit. My mother never knitted, so I was fascinated with this new thing. She could knit so fast, and watch TV at the same time, at I thought that was magic. She taught me to purl the Norwegian way; totally logical to me. The next Christmas my Aunt bought me a “Teach Yourself To Knit” book that had lots of patterns in it. The knitting instructions were a little confusing because it was the “English Throwing,” but the purling instructions were all wrong, in my young mind. I was 6 by that time, but I very ‘confidently’ went to my Aunt Dorris and told her that the people who wrote the book didn’t know how to knit. She told me that the book was written for Americans/English knitters. I told her, “well they are not very bright then; I tried doing it the way the book said, and if I did it their way it would take me an entire winter to knit a hat.” My mother scolded me for being rude, and made me apologize, but I told Aunt Dorris I appreciated the gift, that maybe she could use it to learn to knit, then we could knit together. That got me out of ‘hot water.’

Since finding you during lockdown I have become addicted to socks, cuff down and toe up, I have made a top down sweater with a lace panel from a provisional cast-on, a raglan top down sweater, cowls, mittens and GLOVES!!! lol! I have done colorwork and steeking with a Dale of Norway pattern in the past but was always disappointed because of my tension, and Brioche is confusing to me. My goals for 2021 are to learn Brioche and practice, practice, practice my colorwork. I LOVED Arne's knitting by the fireplace videos and I knit along with him in a companionable silence. LOL! and when Freya barks and you guys say, MOOSE MOOSE! my wee dog barks and I say, FREYA FREYA! lol! Also, Arne and Carlos, I want to say that for the past months, I've been practicing different forms of knitting. I think I've tried them all, but when I watched your "REVISITED How to Knit" podcast, and heard you say that the needle holds the tension, I went back and tried the Norwegian way of holding the yarn, and I want to say...MAHALO! I got it, it's so easy, I'm not worried about tension and I don't want to stop knitting. I keep telling my dog, one more row then we'll go to bed, then I get "the look." I'm knitting my first pair of socks and I seem to be breezing through it. P. S. So happy you are back, but I still love sitting with Arne in front of the fireplace, it's one of my favorite "go-to" videos for peace and quiet time.
