Friends, in our Gospel passage today, Jesus proclaims that he is the vine and we are the branches. There is give and take in this divine relationship. Not only are we rooted in Christ’s mystical body, but he endeavors to cultivate his love and mercy within our bodies. In this analogy, we find a powerful image of spiritual growth.

After a bout with cancer, God granted me the writing of several hymns. But for a year after losing my wife, I was unable to write any more hymns, so I began to think that I losing her, I had lost my inspiration as well. Then I wrote a hymn, the final stanza of which, seems to go well with Bishop Baron's sermon today. "Lord of this glorious morning, most worthy of my praise! Give me the ears to hear Your voice, the spirit to obey! Take my two hands and make them Yours to bless Your child in need. Love through my heart that overflows with Your great love for me."

When my daughter was in the hospital, and I was completely heartbroken, a sister in the Missionaries of Charity said “We cannot see the grace right now, we can only see the suffering. We will see the grace with time.” I guess this is what faith in suffering looks like: to believe God is using our suffering to redeem us and the world even when we can’t see it. Thank you, Bishop.

She is now feeling better and stronger.

If we understand Christ as "Master" in relation to his claim to be "the Way, the Truth, and the LIFE", then committing ourselves to Jesus "Master" is much more than simply believing his Word and following his examples. He gives us the GRACE to live his Word by his example. No other teacher can do the same. Christ is indeed THE Master par excellence.

@@tomharding4779 Established technology is dependable. "How to know Christ is alive in you" is described in anecdotes. Superiority depends on being able to compare head to head, so no, I'm not talking about superiority. The usefulness of xianity depends on what your goals are. If telling stories about the achievements of faith are your thing, then xianity is a tool you can use. Praying for people using the internet was not possible before the internet was invented; therefore, the internet is superfluous to prayer, but it does give you one more avenue for sanctimony.

Thanks for showing Jesus in that light - Vine & Branch. It's not the first time I've heard that (or read it), but it's the first time it really resonated with me, especially concerning suffering. I rarely tell people what I think about their actions unless they're excessively annoying or outright dangerous, but the thoughts are there. So, I pray for humility and patience.

Yes...meditate on all Gospels. My favorite is John. Jesus is LIFE itself-HE LIVES IN US+WE LIVE IN HIM- We are attached to the Vine, Jesus. We are His body and we must realize that He uses us as His visibility His actions of love in this earth. Btw caution please...do not hang out with sinners if you are not secure in Jesus. They can very well be the source of temptation. We must first devote ourselves entirely to Jesus. Plus we can only teach what we know. First KNOW Jesus... Pray on this and talk to God about what He is saying to you specifically. God bless you. ✝️🙏

Pain, suffering are not inflicted on us by Jesus, rather both pain and suffering are opportunities to communicate with the Divine thru The Christ, thus making pain and suffering a gift to grow ever closser to the One in All/The All in One and to offer my pain, my suffering to that of Jesus as The Little Flower taught us and as she did and join with Jesus in the Redemptive work and participate in Christhood.

What a great homily! He literally explained what Lord Jesus meant by vine and branches. As a born and raised my whole life, as a lay Catholic who has been studying Bible for 10 years, I haven't heard any single priest who explained those verses. That is why when thirst for preaching, I attend Non denominational churches. But Bishop Barron always brings me to Catholic church. One of my wishes is before I leave this life, I would like to meet him. Lord Christ is speaking through him. God bless Bishop Barron.

Oh my goodness--I can't decide if these sermons are getting better or if I am just becoming more open to the Holy Spirit! But they are so very helpful and I am so grateful for them. God bless you always Bishop Barron. Thank you for answering God's call.
