I’m deeply appreciative of the way you choose excellent topics to discuss when it comes to learning a language. Your lessons are well taught which makes this the best channel out there for learning Russian.

Forvo.com is also very useful; people can submit their own pronunciation for words, so you if you're looking up a word, you'll usually find recordings from several people for it.

The more Russian you learn, the more you notice the patterns and get a feel for the stress. For example, in -ический, which is a common ending, the first и is always stressed, it seems.

You had me at "RussianGram" ! Thank you! This will help SO many of us. Looks like developer is actively engaged in chats with users there and their questions and suggestions, I'm excited to use this. Especially with the vowel reduction on unstressed and just in general. (Yes I'm another learner annoyed eg "if Russians use them why don't they include the accent marks when writing words, or the double dots over e..." and then remember "oh yeah, in English, we don't even PRETEND to help non-native speakers with this : ) see the words"terrific" "terrible" "terrifying" and you're on your own...

Hello, why does it sometimes give two possible stresses? For example in: дры| дыр в стен Are both them possible? Or it is based on context?
@KochamAncera5 жыл бұрын
It's two different words. In the first example it's the pural form in the nominative case. And in the second it's the singular form in the genitive case. en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D0%B4%D1%8B%D1%80%D0%B0 Look at declension.

These tools for when you can’t contact a teacher or someone immediately are so helpful. I also sometimes go to “hinative.com” or the app to post a question when I am in a bind. You can also request audio on that.

Is there any way to predict how the stress can shift during declension, for example: "sister" and "hand"?

ДомА и дОма will be a problem. I also suggest Wikipedia Russian dictionary or the words app. You can see the accents on every form of the word. Russian Dictionary WikiWord: apps.apple.com/us/app/russian-dictionary-wikiword/id1195607296

How It is possible that if stress isn’t in a right place, native won’t understand me even though I will pronounce them correct otherwise?? If someone is speaking Finnish and doesn’t stress right I can understand him if word is pronounced almost right...
@MatsVederhus5 жыл бұрын
Saul Muñoz A native will understand most words if the stress isn’t in the right place. You’ll just sound very funny. But there are words - I don’t know how many there are - that are distinguished based on stress alone. At that point, Russian turns into Chinese and becomes almost like a tonal language. Perhaps the most infamous example is Я пишУ - I (am) writing and Я пИшу - I (am) pissing.
@pestilence64445 жыл бұрын
@@MatsVederhus What? There's no word пИшу, пИсаю is correct :D You should've written an example about infinitive form of these verbs писАть - to write пИсать - to piss

@@MatsVederhus tonal is not to change the stress, tonal is to change the tone up and down, as in Spanish the same sentence can be a question or an affirmation, depending on the tone: ¡Tienes tiempo! ¿tienes tiempo?

I don't understand why the Russians not use the accent signs always, as the Greeks and the Spanish do.

Luckily, we have such thing in Czech language, I don't understand the lack of accents either. Example: "Já mám nové auto."

We Spaniards think the same about English. Although that is the least of the problems when learning how to pronounce a word. 😁
