Foundations are very crucial but some tricks, like kickflips, you should definitely skip over then go back to it when you've progressed. I learned how to 360 flip and kickflip body varial before varial flips and Kickflips. Hell, people get so tunnel-visioned on learning Kickflips they forget about Heelflips! Heelflips are not only easier when you start but they get the mind accustomed to flipping the board and landing it, giving greater confidence.
