How to launch the Twin Troller X10
This video shows the way I launch and recover my Twin Troller X-10. This is a small electric fishing boat that I and other think is the best fishing boat in the world. There are many ways to launch and recover the Twin Troller but this is the way I do it.

I imagine some folks would like to know just how exactly do you enter the boat from shore....my guess is....very carefully. I will find out in a few weeks from now, I just purchased a twin troller yesterday. Here in north east Indiana it's a bit too cold for practicing this maneuver. I think a small sturdy platform laid between the seat rail walls would make it a little safer to get in the TT. Time will tell...

Steve, You are correct! Go to my video called "WOW! THAT IS A GREAT FISHING DECK!" at kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4uskHiJobNoi8k I use one half of that deck stretched across the pedals and lean on that as I step into and out of the TT. It allows me to be stable as I find my footing when getting into and exiting the boat. Once I started using this I never board or exit the TT another way. I still need to step into the water but the water in Florida never gats that cold anyway. Gerry

Larry, I had to go back and look at the video to see what bags you are talking about. I assume you are talking about the two waterproof bags I have? One is blue and one red. In the red one I keep emergency items, Snacks, tools, registration, an emergency step for getting back into the TT from the water if I fell out of the boat, dry washcloth, etc. In the blue bag I keep my wallet, vehicle keys, and things like that. Both bags are waterproof and hopefully will float if there was a major failure of some kind. My fishing lures and terminal tackle and are in Plano boxes on each side of my seat and under the seat (I have videos on them) and in the box on the floor under my seat are the plastics I use the most and where I store my cell when in the boat. I usually have a small blue soft sided cooler with some bottled water and snacks for the day. Yes I have a second fish finder with GPS and downscan and a separate lithium battery for that second fish finder. I have several videos about the second fish finder and that lithium battery in past videos. I hope that answers some of your questions and I am glad you enjoyed the video. Gerry

Pool Man, I am glad you like the videos. This is how I get into and out of the TT. I am in Central Florida where frozen water is in my refrigerator and comes in cubes to keep my drink cold. I launch the boat with crocks on all the time. I lean on the nose of the boat, shake off one foot, and step into the TT right behind the pedals. Then still leaning on the nose shake off the other foot and step in. I do the same in reverse when exiting. I find that easy to do but If I was in a Northern State I may just do the same with boots on. Some owners beach the boat up against a steep bank and just walk in or out, especially if they have a casting platform like you see many have in my videos. Most of the time I am at a formal boat launch. Gerry

Gerry, Your videos are so enjoyable! The only recommendation I would make is that, while putting the trailer in the water, I would unplug the electrical harness. If any of the light lenses have cracks, there is a possibility that water incursion could create a short circuit that will blow a fuse. Unplugging the harness eliminates this danger.
@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 4 жыл бұрын
Ron, you have a valid point. I have had many boats in my life and have never unplugged the lights. I know people tell me that it a good thing to do but even in tournaments with hundreds of other boats I have never seen anyone bother doing that. In all those years I never burned out a bulb or had a problem. In one of my videos I show that I removed the original lights that came with the trailer and installed LED lights. They are totally much brighter and hopefully safer, waterproof, cool to the touch, and can be operated fully underwater. As much as I did not take special precautions in the past now I do not even think about the lights in the water at all now. Gerry

Just advise you should unplug your trailer light before you back into water. Might save you some wiring issue in the future. Good idea messages are a safe boat practice. Tight lines Sir.
@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 5 жыл бұрын
I have had boat trailers most of my life. Unplugging the trailer lights before launching has always been claimed to be good. I have never done that. At a tournament there is usually 100-200 trailers launching and in more than 30 years of tournaments I never even once saw anyone do that. Now I have LED sealed lights and i see less reason to do that compared to conventional bulb lights. If you feel more comfortable doing that then you should. It may be good practice but forgetting to plug them back in and driving down the road that way has more potential consequence to me so i will continue what I do but I can understand if others do not. You make a good point though. Gerry

Hey Gerry, I've had my TT about 6 years now, I'm here in Michigan. To be honest, I NEVER put the trailer lights in the water, I put the tires in the water and shove it in, then, like your friend David, I slide out on the trailer, hook the wench strap on, lift the bow of the boat up over the lip of the bunks and crank her up. No alligators, no problem 😊👌 Thanks!

Should you unplug your lights before backing into the water?
@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 5 жыл бұрын
Tough question. I never in the last 50 years unplugged the trailer lights while launching a boat. If I had open trailer lights and the bulb would get wet while launching possibly I should have. There were 100+ boats at a tournament and I never saw anyone unplug the trailer lights and never heard of problems. Occasionally a bulb would burn out but that happened back then even if they were unplugged when launching. I now have sealed LED lights and if I would have unplugged the trailer In the past (and I never did) I would not bother now. LED bulbs are sealed and even if water got to them they are not hot like regular bulbs are. Regular bulbs that are hot then being submerged can crack the bulb but LED are not exposed that way. To answer your question, I never unplug the trailer lights launching or retrieving my boat. Good question Gerry

@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 5 жыл бұрын
There are ribs on the floor that the bottoms of the pedals fit into that keeps them in place. You have to shove them lightly to get them to move out of the ribs. When sitting I have both feet on my pedals or both on the floor. Rarely do I have one up and one down. I hope that helps. Gerry
@buzturk9716
@buzturk9716 5 жыл бұрын
Jerry, I'm not sure what you mean. The pedals are "locked" in. With both feet off the pedals, when I put one foot on a pedal, it almost always moves the pedals off the ribs. Maybe I just need to get used to it. I do have a 2nd question. Why do I see no boats on these videos with anchors?
@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 5 жыл бұрын
Buz, Sorry for the late reply. I did not see this question until now. My pedals to not slip out of the slots on the floor that hold them in place. I would try to call Frank from Freedom Electric Marine and explain the issue. Possibly something is not right. He is very open to owners contacting him. There are videos of some people using anchors on their TT. If you look at "RICK INSC" KZbin Channel you will see he has a dumbbell on the gunnel of the boat on the right with a rope that he uses. I know Steve from Melbourne uses one when live bait fishing at the Stick Marsh. I have a stake out pole from my old kayak (Pre-Twin Troller days) that I kept to anchor the boat but like me, most people find little need for an anchor. The Twin Troller has two trolling motors built into the hull and that literally allows the boat to hold itself in any position you need. Most users are fishing with artificial baits with the boat moving along and not anchored. I want to fish with live bait soon and when I do I will anchor the boat. Gerry

Jerry, I did discuss the slipping pedals with Frank. He offered no suggestions, other than perhaps I just needed to get more familiar with them. Thanks.
@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 5 жыл бұрын
Buz, when I was in my TT this past week I was thinking about what you said about the pedals slipping. I tried pushing on mine on purpose to make them slip. I could only get them to slip if the seat was far away from the pedals and pushing was in a much more horizontal direction than the normal position when your feel are pushing down in a vertical direction from top down to the floor. If I was just pushing to make the pedals operate even then they would not slip. If I was pushing hard enough to make the seat slide backwards away from the pedals is the only time I could get them to slip. At that point I was pushing much harder than I would be just to make the pedals work. I hope that helps. Gerry

@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 6 жыл бұрын
Randall, that is a great question. I am not sure if you are talking about when I travel on the water or when the boat is on the trailer. The second time I was on the water I was moving rods and somehow bumped one rod over the side When I got done fishing realized I had one less rod. That was clearly my fault but like being in any boat, I pay more attention to that sound of a splash when you accidentally knock a rod over the side! As far as when I am traveling on the road using the trailer I am not fearful of losing a rod. If you look at any of my videos that show the boat ready to trailer you will see a strap across the back of the boat. When I first got the TT I drilled the trailer frame (watch my earlier videos) and put a "D" ring on each side. (thank you Harbor Freight) I use a ratchet strap across the rear 1/4 of the TT that locks the rods to the boat. On the front left (Port side) I have my additional fish finder that I lower using the Ram Mount that holds the front of the rods down. On the front Right (Starboard) the rod holder keeps the front of the rods from bouncing out also. Randall, I hope that answers your question. Gerry

Steve, I have been in a boat that was on fire (not the Twin Troller). I had just stopped to show someone a large alligator and when I tried to start the motor the ignition system started on fire and flames were leaping out from the engine cowling. All I could think of was "do not die trying to save this boat", but the thought of swimming with that gator was equally concerning to me. Lucky for me I got the fire out and used my trolling motor to get back to the launch a few miles away. If you have watched my videos you can see I installed a fire extinguisher on my Twin Troller. That experience is why I did that. I hope to never use one but in addition to my other life experiences I was a volunteer fireman for two fire companies. What would you do if you set your boat on fire? I would take your engine for that warranty issue, yesterday. Be safe. Gerry

The Twin Troller is not a fast boat that you can waterski from but I found it gets me where I am trying to go. I had full sized boats for years that did high speed but they take lots of maintenance and frankly I did more driving than fishing. The Twin Troller makes me slow down to fish more thoroughly. I know others put on different outboards but weight and balance is an issue in a small boat like this. More horsepower and a water cooled engine means I would have to look at what I have in the boat more than I do now. In my videos you can see I have an extended throttle I added to the Honda. I found I get the best speed with my seat in the center of the boat and being trapped all the way in the rear without the extender makes the bow rise too high and slow you down. The Honda only weighs about 30 pounds yet seems to handle the Twin Troller quite well. It has been very dependable and gets me where I am going so if I had to do it again I think I would stay with the Honda. The water over there always seems better than the place I am fishing right now and I sometimes wish I had a 225 on the TT, but I have learned to be happy with where I am fishing right now and resist the urge to run and gun. Just think of all the fish you drive by when going to another hot spot. When you say you want to buy one I assume you mean the Twin Troller with the Honda on it, not just buying the Honda for another application? Good luck in whatever you decide. Let us know what you do. I hope this helps, Gerry
