Great and very informative video. Quick question I noticed in the beginning of the video when you were using your framing square you said you have to put it to 17”. Why is it 17”?is it always 17” no matter what the pitch is? for example your cutting a 4/12 hip roof would you still put it to 17” on the framing square? Any info helps I would greatly appreciate any feed back thanks again

I actually did learn something though. Making the cheek cuts on one side of the board instead of having to flip mark and cut the opposite side. Thanks!

At 1:58 when you start to say about making 3 parallel lines, is the distance you separate the lines the thickness of the rafter I.E if you were using a thicker or slimmer rafter would you change the line distance or still use 3/4”? Thanks for any info...👍
@fishon84065 жыл бұрын
Yes you would have to increase the distance accordingly for a thicker board. A typical 2x4 is 1 1/2" thick. You are creating with this cut - 2 equal sided isosceles triangles. The equal sided legs of the triangle for a 2x4 cut this way, are 3/4". A 2" thick board would use 1" spacing on the lines to get the point of the two cuts to be in the middle of the board. Draw it out on paper and you'll see.

You did a very good job (actually an awesome job) with this video! As a roof framer from the 1960's, I had to use the framing square, I didn't have the benefit of the speed square or internet. But it was all good. ....13

Man everyone needs to chill out... stop being so serious. this guy is a landscaper and does small engine repair professionally and everything else he learns as he goes. if you know how to do something better than post a video of it how to do it perfect. i can guarantee you that someone will still think they know more than you and of course point out all the mistakes you made. His videos are simply just to give you some basic guide lines, but he always says hes not a professional and to do your own research beforehand. Why do you think he has a disclaimer right above where our comments are. has anyone EVER actually read it because if you have than you wouldn't post up the shit you do. He has helped me tons with many different projects and anything he says hes not perfect at I find a video of who someone who is as well as either call companies or go to stores. so everyone just needs to relax and take a chill pill and enjoy his videos for what they are and not what you think they are. also its funny how all these people can type out how shitty his work his and how it is supposed to be done, yet, no one person has posted a video link with their shit talking post about his work as to how to do it perfect. I can promise you that if you do than someone watching will tell you how you also did something wrong or that your work looks like shit. so easy to sit behind a monitor acting as if you know everything, but nothing to back it up with. all complete dumb asses... this guy has helped me with so many engine repairs, house repairs and many other things.

The birds mouth cut on the power saw is not recommended - you have seriously weakened the load bearing capacity by cutting deeper than is necessary! Use a hand saw, or band saw if available. The rest is good, though.
@DavidSmith-cb9yo5 жыл бұрын
Not trying to troll you doublewide6 but I agree with tessellater on this , the birds mouth on any rafter should never be overcut . Cut to line with circular saw and finish with a jig saw, hand saw or sawsall. Good job on the lay out and cheek cuts.

it sounds so old when he says all his dimensions in imperial measurements, feet and inches, the . Construction industry in United Kingdom went to metric in 1967...l just about remember it from my school days in early 60s..been a Carpenter/ joiner NOW 42 yrs... Used to do roofing work in London and all through Europe, not NOW 2 things why not .... The industry now as all ready made A frames, second, l got more sense not to go climbing struggling and clambering around on rooftops. once a Carpenter always..we never die ..just fade away , like water down a sink ............................. English Mik
