Hey Jack, thanks for this - really helpful. Something I struggled with was working out what tuning to put the banjo in. I can look up the chords for a song online, but then how do I translate that to the banjo if they are for guitar, for example?

Thanks so much! I'm going to do a video about this soon because I get asked this a lot. But, I tend to mostly use open G or double C tuning. Whichever is going to give me easiest reach of the chords with as many open strings as possible. If you're trying to learn a song not traditionally played on the banjo, I'll find the guitar chords and then translate any I don't know to banjo using Theo's Chord Generator here chordgen.parmakis.co.uk - I'll use that to make myself a chord chart and then learn the chord progression and go through the rest of these steps. I'm working on a very modern pop song right now - and the process really is exactly the same - chords, melody, bare-bones, embellished.
