Ohh I'm doing the same with Spanish! My mother tongue is Italian but I've been studying English (seriously) for about 2/3 years. Now I'm studying Spanish (I already was a beginner because I studied it at middle school) with Anki, but there are not Spanish-Italian cards, just Spanish-English! So I've decided to go for it anyway and it's a bit confusing haha. After one year, what's your thought about studying your "new" target language in the "old" target language?

You speak so many languages but I find it hard to remember some words after not using them for long period of time, and I was wondering how you stay so fluent without losing or forgetting. Any tips for staying fluent?
@itsimplyeve6 жыл бұрын
Speaking, speaking and speaking :) honestly that's all I do. Unless you don't speak and apply what you learned it's not going to have any use. Once you start applying everything it will make more sense and you won't forget words that easily because they are put in a context. There is no magic to it, that's really all I do.

Your videos are so great! And helpful!!! You are so lovely as well! I've always wanted to learn more languages, multiple at once, but didnt know if it was productive, so thank you for sharing your life and language learning tricks and inspiring me! I always thought it was much harder than it is but it will always sort itself out if you make mistakes with grammar and things once you start using it. I just started learning Swedish and after I want to start learnig Arabic! I'm going to use your tip of sticking to one specific topic. Its easy to over complicate it and lose motivation but that way makes it simple and faster probably too! Imagine how many people you are encouraging to start learning a new language or several and then that leads to having more opportunities in life to traveling, making new friends, moving house, work, foods and learn a whole lot in general. And I think it improves the quality of life for a lot of reasons! So amazing!!! For every language you learn and use it apparently keeps your brain healthier for 5 years more than expected, I dont know how true that is but I did hear about it somewhere!

I learn Dutch and French mainly on duolingo and by watching some things in these languages. They're quite differrent but I find that the more you split them apart, the less confusing it gets. If I constantly switch between them I learn less, I'm not confusing them since they're different but I don't see a big progress in such case. If I however learn one in the morning before uni class and one in the afternoon or evening it's easier and more clear to me. You could also I guess learn a solid base in one and then switch to another while not forgetting completely about the first one by practicing sometimes.

@Profit Tracker Well I'm learning French quite hard, I had a long break since that comment lol. But I study french every day for half a year now and I'm probably at b1 level. As for dutch I study it much less frequently but it's pretty easy to learn since it's so similar to english. French has many words that are present in english but different gramma and pronunciation is pretty hard but overall it's pleasant to learn

I have been learning english and latin for a quite a while now. When I began to take spanish lessons at school too latin helped me a lot. But when I got a teacher who wanted us to speak spanish on a higher level than just doing this small talk and I put more effort into that, it felt like my english and my translation skills in latin weren't as good as before which really shocked me. :( Is there someone feeling the same?
@Theyoutuberpolyglot5 жыл бұрын
That depends on what you have to translate. Small talk is elementary. Academic work is more advanced, which means your brain requires more effort and brainpower. For me, it is quite hard to translate from one language to another language. Translation skills are beyond to speak two languages fluently. Being bilingual in two languages is just the beginning of your journey to translate from one language to another language. One language is quite complicated. I speak 6 Tongues to a certain extent. If I have to translate them, I'll fail. If I have to hold a conversation, I will succeed. If I have to give a speech about a complex topic: Robots, diet, how does the education system work? How to deal with toxic people, I might be able to do that.
