Omg I love you guys! I'm from Brazil and a lot of people here take english classes outside school. I tried it but it's just so boring and it doesn't matter how many years you're taking these classes, you probably won't be confident enough to take in english in a foreign country. That's why I learned it on internet! I've become so much better that now I can listen to youtube videos without subtitles and I understand english song lyrics without having to translate it to portuguese! I think one of the things that helped me the most was Tumblr because it's a mainly english website. Also, music is the best thing when it comes to learning a new language! I'm currently listening to some french artists from your spotify playlist to help me :) xx

For the past year or two I've been really trying to improve my spanish. I watch Masterchef (Argentina, I find the accent easier to understand than most).. Music trying to pay attention to song lyrics, quotes by Spanish authors, following the news in Spanish on my phone and last but not least.. I use one of the countless language groups you can find on whatsapp. The latest quote I came across (by Julio Cortazar) : "Tenemos que obligar a la realidad a que responda a nuestros sueños, hay que seguir soñando hasta abolir la falsa frontera entre lo ilusorio y lo tangible, hasta realizarnos y descubrirnos que el paraíso estaba ahí, a la vuelta de todas las esquinas" Learning languages is sexy!
@RNS_Aurelius8 жыл бұрын
Some other methods I've used. Listening to nursery rhymes and reading children's stories if you are a beginner, these things are designed to teach children a language so it will definitely help you with basic vocab. Meeting people, I can almost guarantee, no matter what language you are learning there are native speakers in your city. The best way to find them is through social media or ad sites which allow you to post social groups. Just explain why you want to meet people and your level of expertise in the language. A lot of people will be willing to do it because it will help improve their English and they know the situation you're in.

This is an amazing video! I am a Chinese guy and I've been learning English for more than 11 years, but I actually speak and use this language for just maximum 3 years. And now I can proudly say I speak English perfectly, even learning French with the foundation of English not my mother tongue Chinese. I this it is very essential that a person who is studying a foreign language should realise the languages need to be working not only for these lame language tests in school, most importantly for using them in every day living. Repeat them when you hear someone saying a new word you don't know, speak to the cashier when going to the supermarkets buying some food, read them when you seeing an ad board on the street and of course pause and learn them carefully when you watching tv series with the foreign language subtitles on. This is the core purpose of learning a language and the tip i wanna share with y'all. thank you damon and jo.

Just go up to someone and ask if they speak that language. As far as I know, it is not rude to go up to someone and ask that. You will be amazed by how excited and grateful these people are when you attempt to speak their language. My dad is a native Spanish speaker and his face lights up when he hears my friends seriously trying to communicate with him. I'm learning Arabic and I went to the gas station and started speaking with the guy at the register and he was beyond happy that I was trying to say little phrases like "hello" "my name is" "thank you". These are the little steps you need to take to learn a language. It's so satisfying to get some words out of speaking. Good luck everyone!

Hiiii, I tried this top youtuber tip but it didnt work out well to me since I had trouble relating to most of the KZbinrs I found and/or their content, so I think I improved that tip a little. First, I think of a subject or kind of content i'm already used to watch in my native language, then I turn it into keywords in the language that I want to find the youtubers and videos and search on KZbin. This makes easier to find something you'll really enjoy! For instance, I use this to find reviews about movies and series that I'm interested in, dicussions about the ones I already watched and so. Thanks so much for the tips Damon and Jo! And for those struggling to learn another languages, do not give up, you'll get there!!!

also you can search up videos you regularly watch in english (i watch morning routines and "what i eat in a day") but translate the words to the language you want to learn (in french mine would be routine du matin and "ce que je mange en un journee") and it is so entertaining and helpful and you don't get bored of it!

I'd def say watch korean variety/dramas, most of them are already english subbed (I rec kshowonline.com if you're interested in variety shows and dramacool for dramas). Talktomeinkorean is a really good site to start with the basics and grammar to progress. It's also a plus if you do happen to understand Chinese, bc from when I was learning Korean, you could direct translate quite an amount of Korean words/phrases to Chinese so it was easier for me to understand.

+Ana Pisani TenguGo is a great app. I learned the Hindi and Arabic/Urdu alphabet with it...It took me like a week to be able to read Hindi...There is also a comic that explains the Korean alphabet really well...Search for the Polyglot group on KZbin and someone can send you the image I'm sure...
@MatheusHenriqueBonetti9 жыл бұрын
+Ana Pisani I was thinking about the same as watching the video. I have been studying japanese for years and the reading and writing is still very difficult because it's a whole different thing. Two things that works for me: studying by flashcards and trying to read music lyrics as listening to it, like in a karaoke. It helps you get used not just to the individual characters, but to whole words and expressions. And as you are talking about korean, I know it's not gonna be difficult to find some music to listen haha

Not only will you notice the difference between our english slang but our city is so multicultural and there are som many restaurants from different countries where you can practice the language you want to get better at and they will never respond in english unless you ask them to! It would also be great to meet you guys:)

Basically, change your surroundings to your target language, especially on whatever you love doing! I am actually doing this with one of my favorite visual novels, Phoenix Wright, and my French is improving a ton. I even read out loud the text to practice pronunciation. All whilst having fun! Nice video guys!

I'm Brazilian, from Rio!! I lived in Texas and Colorado for two years. I came back to Brazil last October since then I've tried to put myself in contact with the language as much as I can. I keep touch with my American friends which helps a lot.

My biggest tips are definitely definitely watching KZbin videos in the language, listen to almost all of your music in that language, definitely try to learn song lyrics, I also suggest learning more about the culture in general cause then you'll be a little more interested in continuing your experience (as well as slang cause it's always fun to learn to talk natively), oh also going to restaurants or any place you can practice that language, and most most most most definitely try your absolute hardest to pronounce things correctly from the beginning because once you have less of an accent you'll feel so much more comfortable actually putting that language into practice, oh and definitely have shower conversations with yourself in that language and always try to be thinking like oh I wonder what how to say this and then actually search it up because you'll be trying to learn things you actually say a lot! Love this video so so much I just found you guys and am so excited to start watching your videos!

My way of learning a language: 1) Set your phone to your new language before you learn anything! 2) Download a language exchange app (I use Tandem or HelloTalk) before you learn anything! 3) Use a language course that either is free or costs next to nothing: (Duolingo and Babbel are really good, NOT Rosetta Stone!) 4) Study every day and stick to the plan with this! 5) Speak the language EVERYDAY on that language learning app you bought earlier!

I started learning Norwegian because of Skam but although the language isn't widely used and everyone who speaks it can speak English really well, I fell in love with it! Duolingo started me off great, then watching the show both with and without subtitles - I also just started texting my Norwegian friend in her native language rather than mine (English) and it has honestly helped so much! Thanks for these tips, I love them - also suggest narrating what you're doing really helps (once again you sound like a crazy person but who cares?!)

somebody gives me a tip, it was put post it on all thing in your flat with the word that matches for example on your chair you put post it where there is written chaise.

Something i think that would be cool: one whatsapp group to learn languages. For example, we can make one with brazilians who want to learn english and americans who want to learn portuguese. If you want to say something, you need to say in the language you want to learn. Maybe it sounds a little confusing, but would be awesome. Sorry for my bad english 😛

Learning phonetics is what helped me in learning Spanish. The phonetics book that I purchased had diagrams that were helpful and showed how the tongue is suppose to be placed, which was really beneficial. So I was able to learn how to pronounce "vaca" with a soft b and "beso" with a hard B. I also studied abroad in Cuernavaca, Morelos (Mexico) and attended a language school there called Kukulcan, for two weeks. That 2 week immersion was the most I ever learned. More then I ever learned in any classroom. I stayed with a host family. We would have language discussions at the dinner table. I walked around town, talking to the locals. It was great!
