I was in a similar situation and my boss was happy for me. I just came to her, told her the situation and framed it like I was asking her opinion on what to do. She was thrilled for me and TOLD ME to take the job. A good boss would be happy for you.

I was at one job for five years...they were angry that I now had a second job and they had to adjust; I was tired of broken promises . I got a tip that they going to fire me before the first of the month. I got angry and I started pounding pavement.. within a week, I had some interviews, then came some job offers. Once I decided, I informed them. You could see the wind knocked out of them. The next two weeks, I did only what my job required nothing extra..any calls to fill in..I ignored them. None of the managers or the owners said anything on the final shift. Go where you are appreciated, not merely tolerated.

Sometimes you have to leave the job because they don't want to compensate you. My old job wouldn't compensate me based on the market but new hires were coming in higher than me. Notice I said OLD job. I left and make 50% more. This an extreme case probably... but sometimes you gotta move on. Changing jobs offers a greater income increase than raises.

This is not too extreme of a case as you'd think! I had been at a job that paid me $50k/year in midtown Manhattan. The hours were long, and the pay was pretty bad for what I had to deal with. Got an offer for $70k/year at a firm a few blocks away, so I packed my things, handed my resignation letter to HR, and walked out. New place is 10x better than my old place.

The marketvalue of certain fields usually goes up faster than the value of those who took the job 10 years prior and is getting the yearly "1-3%" raise. That's why a lot of people talk about how one should try to change jobs atleast every 5 years in order to "catch" up with the market.

Its all just a big money game. An employee's goal is to make money and as much of it as possible. The employers goal is to make money and pay YOU as little as possible. As long as you are not under contract to work somewhere, you are a free agent. Know your worth and if they cant afford you, leave.

Not true. The National average for veterinarians when I graduated in 2014 was only 65k for a brand new grad. If I heard right and this guys was out for only 3-4 months, this may be an introductionary package. After a year, he may be moved to a compensation package since most vets need time to build clientele and are actually only breaking even, if not a loss, for the business.
@OffGridInvestor
@OffGridInvestor 4 жыл бұрын
I had them NOT TRAIN me to a shockingly low level compared to the contract and STILL assume I would stay after they spent 6 weeks trying to hide the fact that the place doing my apprenticeship training had gone bankrupt and closed its doors. Working for peanuts I got a forklift license I could have got myself to hear "but all we gave him". Couldn't spraypaint any better than the average joe after 19 months of mixing paint and running cranes and doing everything BUT paint because the older employees "can do it faster".

I honestly wouldn’t care so much about the relationship. People work to make money and to make a living. If he wanted to volunteer, he could have done that. I’ve worked multiple jobs, and I think this is simple. Just give him a notice and let him know that you found another opportunity. The bottom line is that if you’re not getting what you need or really what you deserve, get the experience you need, and keep pushing! Find somewhere else where they will recognize you for your efforts or at least appreciate you. I’m learning that I don’t want to be disposable. The world is huge. Don’t settle.

It’s not always possible to leave a job without a heart break... Resigned a job after 20 years, I am 43 years old. It was very much like going through a relationship breakup. Is harder to go to vet school than medical school but those going to med school will make 2-3 times more than vets! I guess people really need to love animals - which is a good thing - to do that plus benefit is animals do not answer back, sue or complain. Been a vet is much harder as an animal can not explain what is wrong with him.
@Numantino312
@Numantino312 3 жыл бұрын
that and a lot of people come to vets all "well it's a cat/dog... can't you just charge me pennies on the dollar?" people try to talk down the bill on human medical care, and that's smart cos it's a totally government/corporate distorted robbery machine. thio what people expect from veterinarians is like... wrong
