Thanks Justine. I appreciate a lot your sentiment here. Yes there are some really negative people out there looking for somewhere to dump their venom, rage, and mistrust. This is just fear. I had no idea what I was letting myself in for when I vowed to do my best to help others. I don't take it personally, thank God, otherwise I would never expose my experience on a forum like this. The point is some people will take my advice and get better. The others are free to stay stuck and miserable if they want. I hope they find something that helps them.

Hello Ashley Hockenberry, Isn't it wonderful to find Mr. Hill's videos? He was a light at the end of the tunnel for me as well. Have you found two other channels (one called "Gray" the other "Adrian Dickenson"), from two other men who have tinnitus and are taking a proactive, positive approach with it. I find all three of these channels an enormous help and they have really helped me turn a corner with this. I have had my tinnitus for 17 months, but only the first 3-5 months or so were difficult. After that it has got easier and has improved. There is lots of support here for you, and you absolutely CAN get better.

Flare ups for me are often caused by loud noises. Just yesterday I had the volume up to the maximum on one You Tube channel because the audio was not good and went to another channel and it was so loud! By the time I lowered the volume it caused a flare up. Brothers and Sisters, let us not panic in these situations and God Bless our dear friend Julian for helping us!

There is an article on the net, in the Irish times, this guy got it for 10 years, he started meditation which at first didn't work, but eventually it ALL went away when he practised every day. It has to do something with your nervous system. I got tinnitus when my mom got diagnosed with cancer, it's no coincidence...my tinnitus is still here, but the spikes are almost gone, everytime the high sounds go away after a day(it used to be a week), the next time it's less and less, very strange...

I am very lucky as I have the satisfaction of helping many people let go of their tinnitus. I am happy to report that I still have a life without tinnitus too, after 20 years of symptoms. Your audiologist should be pleased about that. My information is based on my own experience and the experience of over 500 people I have helped. I hope you can hear that. I wish you and your audiologist all the best.

Mr. Hill i almost cried when i listened to this video. Thank you so much for offering this information. I suffer from several different noises all of which have different intensities and vary from time to time. One that is especially irritating is a pulsing noise (not like a heart beat) but rather like morse code. I was just getting used to my monotone noise and now this. I am 24 and had tinnitus since I was 18 and I have been in and out of depression since. Many thanks for sharing with us.

Your accent is helping my tinnitus. By the way, I have no doubt some of this is true. People think of the body in too simplistic terms. Our nervous system is extensive and we can be affected in ways we don't even grasp. It's far more receptive than we understand. My chiropractor taught me this. He works very gently with people's bodies and never cracks them. He works with the nervous system over time.

You might have temporary tinnitus, but it is most likely to go away by itself. The best thing you can do is relax, focus on feeling comfortable and finding as much well-being as you can and it should back off. I would try not to worry about it and get on with other things. Best wishes Julian

I agree. I lost half of the hearing in my right ear from loud noise exposure and developed tinnitus for a good month afterwards. However I no longer have it (once again) having learnt how to let go of it by normalising it and then shifting the focus away from it and then dropping my nervous system into a deep state of well-being and stillness where the tinnitus backed right off. How's that for a quick reply!

I'm surprised by the few people who talk with sarcasm or anger to this guy who obviously have a passion for helping people, and genuinely promote himself in his videos. He's not forcing anyone to buy anything and he's even suggesting to try something else that suits you better. These people confirm his theory, cause they obviously have emotional issues, and so distrust and denigrate others. I wonder if tinnitus is caused by a physical damage to the inner ear cells or the acoustic nerve, why do deaf people has it? And I'd like to ask to the people who with confidence affirm that it's a physical damage that's involved: what test have you been given to actually verify your physical damage? Have you been given an acoustic test and then told you have a physical damage, because if you like scientific evidence you should ask for something more reliable, like a sample of your damaged ear cells to see under a microscope

I never expected to come up against so much rage, anger and mistrust when I set out to help people with tinnitus. But there are a lot of people out there who need to work through their issues with therapy. Tinnitus loves anger and thrives on aggression and fighting. Fortunately I'm a therapist and I am used to not taking things personally. The fight or flight response is central to tinnitus keeping on going. So it is not surprising that there is a lot of anger in the tinnitus community. Physical damage causes tinnitus. After I got rid of my stress induced tinnitus I walked in front of a loud speaker and damaged my right ear. After a decade of silence my tinnitus came back strongly. It took me 6 weeks to get rid of it again. So I have worked through both stress induced tinnitus and noise-damaged induced tinnitus. Both can be got rid of.

Scams who try to exploit people's ailments and desperation to their advance do exist, even in the field of medicine or alternative medicine where the boundaries of what works and why are more nuanced. Hopefully these people with a guilty conscience don't go that far and life punishes them for what they deserve. For what I've seen you're not forcing anyone to believe you nor to give you any money. In my humble position, I think tinnitus is triggered by some physical auditory trauma, but its a kind of collateral effect that the BRAIN develops as a result and is surely maintained (if not created) by stress. After all, metaphorically speaking, what's the tinnitus if not a constant stress one wants to get rid of?

+achille I am one of those people who tends to react with sarcasm to this. I think the reason is that I see an incredible number of bogus "cures" for various ailments on the internet and it's truly mind-boggling to see the number of gullible people who will believe all sorts of complete nonsense. But do I have proof that this is nonsense? No I don't. So do I believe he can cure my tinnitus? No I don't. But I'm not always right. Only almost always.

Everything I say is true and is taken from my own direct experience. My advice to you is to find people who have let go of their tinnitus and learn from them. This may help you. Saying it is a bunch of bull without understanding how they did it is not a strategy that will help you let go of yours. You are entitled to keep your mind closed and stay stuck in your tinnitus if you want to.

I got tinnitus symptoms after a sinus congestion attack 15 days ago. I had to completely redo my diet, start meditating, exercise, and Allegra DAILY. Doctors told me to continue taking the Allegra, hot showers, keep my self cleaned out. But 15 days and it's the most annoying "cricket" sound if I'm really quiet. It's so HARD to let go of the sound at night. The day is fine. But when I'm alone and it's quiet, I CANNOT let the sound go. I'm trying to move on. This is all new to me. I already was a high stress, high anxiety person....so maybe I was already setup for this, and the congestion episode made it all come down crashing. This has literally changed my life in 14 days.

Physical sound is translated into electrical impulses by the cochlea. Beyond this the auditory cortex of the central nervous system translates these electrical impulses into hearing. If our internal sensitivity is turned up too much we start detecting all the nervous impulses of the central nervous system as sound, rather than just the physical impulses from the outside world. Deaf people have a pulsing central nervous system buzzing with nervous innervation. This is heard as tinnitus.

I had blood cancer treatment for the last 2.5 years including bone marrow Transplant and tinnitus started 5 months back. I believe it may due to my newly developed sinusitis/ nose and ear blockage. Now I am trying to get out of this problem. As per my yoga Guru's advice, I started focusing /meditating on this Devine sound and made it as my Devine friend. Initially, I had no sleep for many days and my health was deteriorated. But after my Guruji's advice, now I made it as my friend. As said in bible, There was Word (sound)and Word was God and God was word. So if you have Tinnitus, before treatment the first step should be the acceptance of this sound. Dissolve and meditate in this sound do not be enemy to it.

Here are the subtitles for this video in Polish: 0.02 Witajcie, nazywam się Julian Cowan Hill 0.04 i chciałem wam powiedzieć jak uwolnić się od szumów w uszach. As a craniosacral therapist who developed tinnitus after surviving an airplane crash, I can relate to the stress component. I can also substantiate that craniosacral therapy is the only thing that worked and I agree with Julian's theory and his explanation of how CST helps. When I first had the tinnitus, I was not as involved with CST as I now am, and everything I read was very discouraging. It was only after deepening my CST practice, that my tinnitus simply went away with the CST.

@shusterandy Thanks for getting back to me. I hope that you can find out what is the cause of your Tinnitus and get some relief. when I was younger the doctors thought that I had 'Glue Ears' which is caused by mucus build up within the middle ear. Anyway good luck with whatever you decide I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

When my tinnitus started in May of 2008 it was severe and frightening. One of the rays of hope I found on the Net was this video that you produced. I took your advice and it was a great help, Julian. Today I'm 100% better. Tinnitus is hardly noticeable. I still believe, like you say, that "tinnitus is a temporary state." One day it will be completely gone! Thank you for this wonderful video!

Here are the subtitles in Italian for this video: 0.02 Ciao, mi chiamo Julian Cowan Hill 0.04 e sto per dirvi come liberarsi dall’acufene. 7.20 www.cst.eu.com

There may be something in this. I have had tinnitus for 20 odd years and it never really bothered me. Just over a year ago I put myself in a very stressful living situation. One day, after a few months, the ringing became unbearable and soon after I had electrical clicking noises added to it. On top of this hyperacusis. Two things help me. Drinking alcohol - it relaxes me and the noise in my head lessens (not a healthy therapy), the other is EFT, emotion freedom technique. Im looking at meditation to destress.

@@varunkhurana3495 same here bro. I am tinnitus sufferer since last 9 years. Bro Its a pure torture if you start giving it a single moment to over power you. I am suffering from tinnitus flare up. And trying to cope with it. Previously I had spike in 2019 just before My cat examination. Though I didn't give a fuck about any exam but the stress slowly and steadily crept inside my head and got a spike. It costed during examination and I scored just 94ish percentile. Later I failed in my graduation final year in only one practical not once but thrice and it was none of my fault but of university fault. That fuck wasted my 1 year. Costed me my IIM seat and I became too anxious and lived pretty stressed life for full 1.5 year. Now I have second spike and that too with hyperacusis. So you can connect the dots that tinnitus has nothing to do with ear. Its more of an nervous system fault. Your body is on override and you are supposed to manage it. One more thing before 2019 I didn't even gave a fuck about tinnitus, though it was there but it doesn't use to bother me most of the times. It was like 75-25 ratio. But now its 1-99 ratio. I have changed my diet, started meditation, started using hearing aid with tinnitus masker, white noise generator. One more thing do not get into trap of audiologist and ent. Firstly they told me that I have severe hearing loss. I was pretty sure that due to tinnitus spike I wasn't unable to hear most of the tones. My mind was not in present. Later I did 3 audiogram and all came back negetive. This doesn't mean that I don't have hearing loss, its there but not that much so as to be called severe. So body can play tricks with you in your tinnitus as you are in a state of fear frustration. Try to relax yourself as much as you can it can be massage, yoga, brisk walking or try doing anything you like. That is something which I like about tinnitus, It gives you a second chance to become what you really are. Find your inner self and follow it. It will be a complicated journey but it worth trying. One more thing never ever in your life lose hope. Just give a damm good fight.

How is it possible to have tinnitus one day and not the next? How come I had tinnitus for 20 years and don't have it any more? It is certainly true for me and for a lot of people I work with. When people come out of fight or flight the symptoms improve dramatically. When the neuron stops being excited then the tinnitus subsides. If you think about it, every single neuron in the body is affected by adrenaline and is excited by fear, anxiety and stress. Undo this excitement and the nerves settle.

Sorry to hear about your mother. Life can be really challenging sometimes. Until you can afford therapy or counselling, the best thing you can do is hang out with close friends and talk lots and hopefully get support. Also you may want to consider joining a tai chi class or yoga. This is not expensive at all. After a few classes you will know how to practice these amazing body practices yourself. They will help you more than most other things put together! You will learn how to relax deeply!

I have all kinds of sounds and pain, discomforting vibrations and I get why people want to die. Stress does make it worse but it’s not what caused it. The sounds therapies make it worse, I dont have a ringing, I know what that ringing is everyone gets for a few seconds from time. The bevy of sounds go from a piercing 12khz down to a low hum with shimmering and scramblings in between. It hurts and I feel pressure. Even the skin around my outer ear feels charged with particles bouncing around, sometimes feels like burning. Silence is gone.

My biggest fear is that my grandmother, aunt, and recently my mother died from Alzheimer’s, and all 3 had tinnitus before developing Alzheimer’s. I have only had tinnitus for a year, but recently it has gotten, at times, very loud. I understand it is not an ear or hearing issue, but a brain issue. I have retired from 20 years of teaching public school, always with teenagers. It seems like as stressful as teaching is, I did not experience tinnitus until I retired. My stress is now minimal, but after only noticing the tinnitus first not even a year ago, it has ramped up exponentially. I have been on anti anxiety and depression meds for years. I told my psychiatrist about my tinnitus. He changed my meds, but the tinnitus has gotten worse. I don’t know what to do.

I'm dealing with visual snow, with about 80 constant visual symptoms, and loud tinnitus. Recently, I developed something called CPPS. Or chronic pelvic pain syndrome. It's crushing. One thing I realised was that all of these things are a "red alert" or constant hyper activation of my nervous system. Upon doing research about how to treat my CPPS, I came across some books, and recovery stories, that seemed to describe ways of getting out and healing. These ways are always a body/mind combination. For example, meditation, TRE (trauma releasing therapy - or shaking it off ), and even restorative exercise to lengthen the muscles. Also being a more aware, conscious, grounded person is a big deal - and being able to look at the symptoms without identification. This is overwhelming in a sense, because we are not taught skills of self regulation. Yet I am starting to believe that I've been in a state of sympathetic activation for perhaps the last ten years or more. My goals are to focus on meditation, being outdoors, self regulation, trauma release, and strengthing my tight muscles. I'm starting to believe that my tinnitus and visual snow, where a precusor to this, and all of these problems are a combination of muscular, stress, and hyper activation. All working together. To calm down, in every sense of the word. Is to heal. If any of this makes sense, let me know. Because all I have right now to work with, is my own intuition. And it's hard relying on that, while moving forward some days. I believe several months of these practises will bring huge rewards. And the fact that I find it so very hard to begin, is also an indication that I am in fact in some kind of freeze mode.

Letting go or coming out of fight or flight not only affects the perceptions and causes them to settle back to normal levels of sensitivity, but it also helps the body's tension release. So if there is chronic tension in the jaw, working directly with this area can rebalance TMJ structural issues, and if the body is relaxed alongside, then a freer jaw is more likely to continue. Ear infections need to be dealt with carefully. However when we let go our immunity also strengthens. Best wishes J

@TheJepperen Yes you are correct. Tinnitus is when your hearing can start to deteriorate. As I mentioned I have had a 40pct hearing loss when I was born courtesy of my brother contracting German Measles while my mother was pregnant with me & passing it on. Tinnitus does occur usually because the nerves in the ear connecting to the ear drum are damaged. I am 40,just went for a checkup 3 days ago & my hearing is still ok. Not 100pct but ok.

In my case, my tinnitus is the result of nerve damage to the hair cells in my ear due to trauma from loud noise. My understanding is that the nerves which previously received sound impulses no longer receive them, then rewire in a non-functional way thus producing the ringing. Tinnitus is frequently accompanied with hearing loss, so my hearing is less acute, not more acute. I'm currently looking into tinnitus re-training therapies as a way of attempting to reduce the noise.

I developed tinnitus after a tonsillectomy at age 16, and TMJ not long after. It has gotten worse over the years. I am now 53 and have eagles syndrome symptoms that tend to occur from over-stretched ligaments; damaged ligaments tend to calcify and cause a myriad of problems.

Hi JUlian. Thanks for all your wisdom and helpful advice. I have had T for 8 months now and been trying to help myself with meditation, tai chi at home and working through your book. I have some good days where I think I am making progress and periods where I have the noise, sometimes it will flare up without warning even when I am feeling very calm. Do you think I would get more from tai chi if I were in a class? Also I have finally managed to find a CST therapist and am meeting up for the first time in a few days. I hope I will be able to derive some benefit from this. I know its a journey with ups and downs, please keep posting your supportive sessions. Alan

Better to join a class in my mind but doing at home is already really helpful. Good luck with your cranial work. Wishing you a steady recovery, Julian

I'm currently trying out "Notched music therapy". There is a good "how to" youtube video on the subject (just search for "tinnitus notched music"). I'm using Audacity along with a notch filter plug-in and remove 1 octave of music centered around my tinnitus frequency. Time will tell if it works for me...

Really great summary and perspective. Thanks for sharing. Have you ever tried EFT for tinnitus? I heard it can be of help for so many disorders.

Thanks. I agree. EFT can help in many ways just as craniosacral therapy can.

For the past year I've had an dizziness / crunchy ear/ throat / neck (poss Eustacian tube) issue that doggedly refuses to go. I think I may have a fungal / mold infection that has stimulated candida too (blood test showed a raised allergy response).. But I wonder if Cranial Sacral would be of any benefit to me? I know someone in San francisco that does this (I;m English but live in SF).

The candida diet could really help you massively. It helped my tinnitus disappear. Craniosacral therapy can help your nervous system settle into deep stillness which makes life very hard for tinnitus to keep going.

***** Thx Julian. Your videos about all this make a lot of sense. I wonder why more people haven't come to the same conclusions?

@jcowanhill i think i might have had it. i mean.. i always heard it in my ears o.o i never realized it. it did get worse today but that went away, but after i looked at this stuff, (and even still) i hear a ringing noise in the distance. its not overpowering any other sounds, and if im doing something loud, i cant hear it. but if im lying down and theres nothing making noise, i hear it (also if the TV and everything is off. is there any way i can get rid of it at home? or reduce it? theorapy ftl

I have tinnitus. It started when I was awakened to something, November 2016 (not gonna mention because of negative backlash) that put every cell in my body in fight or flight mode just like Julian says could be the culprit! I definitely agree with him 100%. I was in fight or flight mode for probably 5 months straight. My tinnitus came instantly and was extremely bad.....extremely loud. I have noticed that the last two months the tinnitus has eased a little. Only after I have learned to accept what I was awakened to. I still have it but I am going to try to learn how to meditate. I have never meditated in my life so I guess I will be doing some research on meditating. I would however like some more information on what someone mentioned about swimming. Someone wrote that they took Julian's advise and did the meditating and swimming exercises but didn't say what type of swimming exercises. Can anyone help me with more info on these exercises? Oh, and how I have dealt with my tinnitus.....well, I have just learned to accept it and live with it. I would love to hear silence again but if I never do, I will not let my tinnitus destroy me. Thank you Julian for all your videos....they have helped me tremendously :)

Dear Julian, I used to have Tinnitus for a few months when I discovered it was caused by a jaw dysfunction. after wearing a clamp for several months, the noise was as good as gone. I sometimes heard it, but I was not bothered by it. However a few weeks ago, I suffered from some panic attacks while visiting scotland. A few days later the Tinnitus returned and the clamp did not seem to help much. I know I need to let go of the stress to make it go away, but it is very difficult! Any advice?

I've had it nonstop for six years in my left ear (high pitched squeal) after going on an airplane with a cold. My ears were completely blocked. It was also at a time of great emotional stress. A couple of weeks ago a different kind started in my right ear, a low buzz. I hope your methods work for me. Thank you for posting these videos.
